INTRODUCTION
The following report will provide information about the role and function of nursing. There
is discussion about various roles of nursing. The development of the responsibilities of this
specialist. There is understanding and analysis of the foundation of the nursing. There discussion
about the occupational strategies, status and power position with the profession. There is also
explanation of successes and downfalls of the professional group i.e. nursing.
Demonstrate knowledge of the nursing
The nursing knowledge is defined as the means in which the whole purpose is to care for the
patients and look after their health and hygiene (Mather, Gale, and Cummings, 2017). The
individuals working as nurse are often similar to the doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists and
they all are involved in managing work efficiently. The professional nursing is defined as clinical
effectiveness and professional enquiry. As there is increase in the accountability, the expectation
of growth which helps nurses to explore the belief of profession is also increasing. The
knowledge of nursing enables in justifying actions and helps in stopping poor practices. Nursing
is still a profession that is basically preferred by females. This is relevant as the basic care which
is provided in this profession is care and females are known to provide more care than males.
The profession of nursing is a practical profession. Nursing is a holistic and integrated aspect that
is measurable and this profession requires the ability for integrating skills and knowledge for
different situations. Nursing is a performance competency and there is need of meeting
standards. The clinical nursing practise means providing patient centred care for achieving goals
and objectives. Nursing competency is defined as a core competency that is needed for fulfilling
the responsibilities of nursing. It is very essential for the process of nursing that all work is done
using required skills and knowledge.
Development and changes of a human service profession/occupation, with particular focus on
policy and regulation
Before 1930, nursing profession was not that much developed. with the increasing technological
as well as clinical requirements of patient care, there was need of improving the nursing skills
(Motakpalli, and et.al, 2018). At the time of 1950, hospitals are the only employer of registered
nurses. Health care services are provided to people from many years. There are some essential
changes in nursing that have occurred in the 20th century. There is high demand of qualified and

registered nurses in hospitals for treating and taking care of patients effectively. The education
structure of the nursing has also been changed. There are various nurses which have done
effective decrease that it provides education regarding the innovatively organisations and
patterns to take proper care of different patients. the concept of critical care units was started in
the hospitals at the time when nurses have group together for treating the critically ill patients.in
these units there was use of modern and innovative technologies to take care of patients. The
profession of nursing is increased by the enhancement of national as well as international work.
The main motive of every country is to increase the number of healthy individuals living in the
country (Johnson, 2019). this can be done by providing them good facilities and care in terms of
medical treatment. Good and knowledgeable nurses are required in hospital so that they can take
care of different patients with full care and effectiveness.
Occupational closure strategies, status and power position in relation to other related
professions/occupations, the job market and society
Occupational closure strategies are defined as the process in which trading and occupation
transforms itself to any new profession. This is known as the achievement of licensure and this
provides barrier entry for accepting those which have passed different entrance exams of
training. Within the healthcare sector, occupational groups are talking various tactics for
maintaining autonomy as well as controlling the work conditions. there is a credential list
approach which is adopted by the nursing profession of UK in the 20 th century. There is
development of the advancement in assistant, non qualified workers, managers and nurses. There
have developed reconfiguration of traditional work that they are doing (Benton, and Shaffer,
2016). It is important to take care that the nurses feeling motivated towards their work. There are
some people who are selected by the managers for knowing the need of confident and skilled
nurses. Nurses are known as the largest occupational group of healthcare department. Because of
the social literature there is subordination of the nurses and it deduction of recognising the
contribution of nursing, it is concluded that position of nurses in the hospitality sector is very
high. these are the individual so take care of all the patient so come to the hospitals ant need
medical treatments. The power of nurses within the hospitality service is very more. These are
the individuals who take care of different patients (Mikaelian, and Stanley, 2016). Doctors do the
operations and after that all service, care and support is provided by nurses. These professionals

are emotionally weak and take care of patient’s diet, health status, pulse rate, Blood pressure,
food , etc. This is not an easy task as there is need of providing extra care and making all patients

There are both advantages and disadvantages of every profession (Yi, and Keogh, 2016). In
context of the nursing profession, there are several downfalls as well as success. Some of these
are mentioned below –
There are various advantages of being a nurse. The most important thing is that roles and
responsibilities which are related to taking care of patients. These related to saving someone’s
life or making their health better. As a nurse there is opportunity for meeting new people every
day and taking care of them. This helps in in learning new things every day. not all but few
nurses want to make more money and the nursing profession is very effective in providing good
money. The nursing job has great growth and demand in market. As per the bureau of labour
statistics, it has been analysed that causes are looking for various jobs that will help in building
their career in a good way. At the initial level the job of nurses starts in a particular unit. But
after working for a few years there are opportunity for becoming a shift leader or floor manager.
Another advantage is for the travel nurses as their licence can be reimbursed. On the other hand,
there are some disadvantages of engaging in nursing profession. This includes there are some
nurses which are trusted by people but they do not take care of them in effective manner, this
creates bad image of nursing profession in front of people. Each and every job role is stressful.
The nursing job is also stressful and it requires lot of efforts to provide good care and service to
different kind of people. Nursing profession is also very challenging as there are different
scenarios and different people home nurses after deal with. Gnosis have to work in hospitals and
there are lot of germs which are present in these places so they are exposed to germs which can
have impact on health of nurses (Johnson, 2019). As there is no day off for illness, thus nurses
have to work on several holidays too.

From above discussed topics it can be concluded that the nursing profession is a growing
sector and individuals have great opportunity to enhance their growth. Nurses have different
roles and responsibilities and main thing is that they provide good care and treatment to the
patients. While doing this, it has been seen that with the increase in years, medical science has
find various techniques and tools for managing and treating patients.
