Healthcare Operations and Quality Assessment
When comparing Mercy Hospital and Genesis Medical Center Davenport in Ohio, Mercy
Hospital has a higher rating than Genesis despite the fact that they are both acute healthcare
settings. To yield high level of quality, patients at Mercy hospital receive a higher percentage of
appropriate recommendations for follow-up screening on colonoscopy (The Medicare Hospital
Compare website, n.d). Patients are also less likely to develop surgical complications in Mercy
hospital compared to Genesis. According to Holmboe, Durning and Hawkins (2017), hospitals
should constantly monitor the performances of the healthcare practitioners so as to ensure the
provision of quality services. Therefore, to yield high level of quality, genesis should try to
prevent the rate of patient readmission after discharge from the hospital as well as reduce the cost
of payment for heart attack patients. To increase value of the services provided in both the
hospitals, I suggest that they increase patient education so as to enable patients understand their
conditions and necessary strategies for management. The hospitals should also reduce the
amount of time spent in emergency departments after a doctor decides to admit a patient before
taking the patient to admission room.
