REFLECTIVE ESSAY
This activity is basically demonstrate specific working skills (one to one) that are needed
for an individual (Kolb, 2018). On the other hand, role which I am going to play is of a social
worker in medical field that basically delivers a range of services like setting nurses for the
patient who is suffering from a disease or met with an accident and many more other type of
issues. In present case, I am serving to a patient named as Mrs. Munteanu who fell from the
stairs and after when she operated with knee replacement her leg did not worked and for the
same I will be treating and giving instructions to her so that she can get recovered from the
injury.
Along with this, the responsibilities that I was having while treating or serving to Mrs.
Munteanu was, to take care of every single activity what she does in a normal day which
basically involves eating, sleeping and other activities. I can consider myself and say that I am
having responsibilities related to assign nurse for Mrs. Munteanu based on her requirement. In
the scenario, she mentioned that her husband comes in stress in the morning and in evening times
because this is the crucial phase where all the activities related to taking shower and more takes
place. What she asked from me is that a carer she will be needing for 2 to 3 hours in the morning
and in the night as well so that she could change her clothes and do other stuff like move around
in the house or go to her daughter’s place.
Considering the Kolb's reflective theory which is enclosed with 4 stages like Concrete
experiences, Reflective observation, Abstract conceptualization and Active experimentation I
have analysed that Mrs. Munteanu had a bad experience just after when she got operated for
knee replacement, where her leg did not worked (Tirosh and et. al., 2016). It was the
responsibility of my own to identify the exact issues from which she was going through.
Considering this experience which I got while talking to Mrs. Munteanu is coming under the first
phase of the model. Apart from this, when I was listening to Mrs. Munteanu, there were many
things that I was observing that she do not have any sort of bad habits and follows a good
schedule which is needed to be followed every day by a person and this could be considered as
the second phase (Sharif and Zainuddin, 2017). Third stage is linked with building the concepts
based on a generated hypothesis and here what I experienced what that if Mrs. Munteanu would
follow a much more fruitful schedule with the help of carer that I am going to assign, it is may be
possible that she finally recover from all the issues she was facing. Here, I thought of giving her

a supportive tool through which she can walk around. When she was telling about her daily
routine in detail, I found out that she might require carer for more than 2 times in a day which
made me ask the same from her. This phase basically shows that I thought using a range of
concepts which might help Mrs. Munteanu in getting better real fast. Along with this, the last
stage is the final stage where it is required for experimenter to execute the hypothesis which was
build. In the same way, I basically connected all the concepts which I had in my mind when Mrs.
Munteanu was providing me details about her daily routine. It helped me in offering her walker
(tool by which a person can walk around). Along with this, it also helped me in asking that if she
require a carer more than 2 times which she already asked. This basically helped me out in
focusing on all the areas in which I needed to be assure being as a social worker. With the same
information, I assigned jobs to carer through which he/she can directly deliver a range of services
to Mrs. Munteanu like taking her to bed (night), preparing for the day (morning) and so on
(Gaus, 2017).
If it is talked about personal and professional values, I have 3 different one in my mind
and these are integrity, stewardship and freedom (Hosein and Rao, 2017). Considering the
scenario I have chosen integrity, stewardship and freedom because it is essential for me to work
with full trust which a service taker (Mrs. Munteanu) would need in bad times (Schön, 2017). It
can be said that, the major strength of the overall role play was the communication because me
as a social worker it is required to have all the details about the patient. In the same way it is
also required for or the patient to deliver all the information regarding the issues of the problems
faced by buy them by the injury that take place. Along with this the major weak point that I have
found in myself was the way I was asking all the questions from her because I was not aware of
the fact that her husband was taking care of her can I asked for the same when she already said
no for the first time about the care that she doesn’t wanted for the whole day long. I would have
heard her properly which might help me out in offering more services according the needs of
her.
As per the above mentioned report it is been concluded by me is that having a good
communication could help in developing one to one communication. A small gap could lead a
person to lose all the information which was needed to be asked. Therefore, while offering a
service it is required for an individual to focus on all the needs and requirements and on all the
information which has been provided by Client or the patient to fulfil them as per the necessity.
