Activity-1
P1 Describe about the impact of unexpected and expected significant life event on individuals at
different ages, stages.
Life event is experience that can be considered in both expected and unexpected. It can have
either positive as well as negative impact on the overall life style of individuals. As A result, they
are significantly affected by different events (Koo Andersson and Tydén, 2020). The unexpected
and expected event can be formed when it may be going in wrong ways. In this way, it can be
related to relevant individuals that they able to identify the impact of different events (Friedman
and et.al., 2020). On the other hand, it also understands that affects on the individual lives in
significant manner. The effect can be divided into different groups: social, physical and
psychological.
The expected life events are those that can will happen with planning to individuals. For
Example- physical changes such as puberty, menopause.

The unexpected life events are those that can surprise individuals as they are not aware that what
might happen. it can be said that they are unplanned. For Example- unexpected death or accident
might happen. some individuals might die but that they don’t know prior to dying and thus it is a
type of unexpected event that might happen.
For instances, it can identify the events such as Pregnancy as a situation which is both
painful and joyous. The reason behind it is the situation where concern about female regarding
proper support is more. She can enjoy their own moment of child birth and also handle the
unbearable pain in easily (Seiler, Fagundes and Christian, 2020).
The physical pain that have to be borne by women in extreme level which often has
significant impact on their entire lifestyle. At the time of pregnancy, a women face a lot of pain
and they have become suffer from massive physical impact (Obst, Due and Middleton, 2020). It
is imperative of individual surrounding women. they provide certain comfort so that they can
easily handle pain. There are lot of problem faced such as extensive pain, back aches. Another
type of physical pain experience by pregnant women and also identify fatigue issue. It is the
most common issue among women. Sometimes, they feel exhausted and tired eventually it
converts into sleeping problem.
Similarly, pregnancy is to be considered as per different situations, experiencing into
different stages or age groups. Sometimes, it directly effects on the mental health of women
because it has changed the hormonal condition in body. It is normal that women may become
irritable, moody and depressed. In this way, it mainly indicates the functionality of brain. As a
sense, pregnancy would also effect on the mental status and experience significant changes in
their thinking styles (Clemens, Dibben and Shortt, 2020). On the other hand, emotional
disturbance is most common at the time of pregnancy where they get emotional at same time.
These types of changes occur in the women mental condition. In most of cases, it is very difficult
to handle or manage them. As per analysis, it has been concluded that significant life event
relates to pregnancy effects on the metal as well as physical condition. It also identified that
pregnant women bear both psychological and physical effects in their life style.

friends. These people play an important role for providing emotional support to individuals.
They can help individuals undergo such significant life events with proper comfort and ease
(Seiler, Fagundes and Christian, 2020). Their support would be crucial for individuals where
they can face any type of situation and overcome the same. Therefore, a pregnant woman needs
support from their family members, friends so that they can take rest and perform daily routine
activities. While ensuring that they protect the baby in proper manner and is delivered in safely
on right time.
Apart from that, it is not wrong to say that some of important people who will provide
extra support and aids to women with her family will help in giving positive response towards
pregnant women and otherwise it may turn into negative ways. (Flouri, Francesconi and Lewis,
2020). So it is necessary to show positive attitude, behaviour in front of pregnant women. In
families, parents and husband will be happier and excited. In such cases, they can extend every
kind of care, support and ensure that every thing happen in good manner. Similarly, Friends also
plays important role for individual life where they can provide support for women as they also
wish in future. They always trying to make happy for pregnant women and give support in both
physically as well as mentally. There are more chances where family members might be highly
worried, stressed because of pregnant women handling (Koo Andersson and Tydén, 2020). They
can try to keep maintain healthy environment and free from other kind of pressure or stress.
Because there are lot of chances where women may become stressed, irritable due to hormonal
changes.
In normal cases, the response to pregnancy would be positive and also shows the sign of
excitement. In this way, family member would take steps and ensure that women become safe,
healthy and happy. It is also analysed that response of family members towards pregnancy could
be mixed with proportion of same which belonging to positive response (Obst, Due and
Middleton, 2020). In this way, it can become a significant life event towards good attitude and
assume it is to be good situation.
P3 Differentiate that how different type of external voluntary and statutory agencies support
individuals through significant life events.
The significant life event related to Pregnancy is that case where they can influence the care
users but they also affect individuals, who will provide essential health care services (Seiler,
Fagundes and Christian, 2020). Thus, Significant life event have become prominent influence

over health care workers and other practitioners which helps in providing better appropriate care
to individual. This is main reason to understand that how healthcare worker affects due to
pregnancy event (Tian and Solomon, 2020).
It has been observed that health care professional support to develop personal relationship
with patient and get over problem.
External voluntary agencies support Women in their Pregnancy life event.
As per given case studies, care setting in health organization involves developing a
policies and procedures. They are supporting individual within their significant life events
(Seiler, Fagundes and Christian, 2020). The external voluntary agency such as WHO which helps
in providing guideline and managing the proper health care services. In this way, it can analyse
the strength, weakness of agency’s policies showing how they can treat pregnant women during
child birth. It helps them to maintain comfortable and normal daily activities.
Higher authorities of WHO have developed different treatment plan for handling pregnant
women with other complication. Because the primary reason is to cure their problem and
monitor movement activity of child on regular basis (Armengaud. and Simeoni, 2020).
Sometimes, WHO treatment can be divided into three different treatment steps: psychological,
care giving and pharmaceutical. Initially, agency provides different kind of medicine which have
been developed with maintain overall activities. Another step is of psychological intervention
method. It is the most common approach that require for pregnant women because at that time
there are lot of hormonal changes activities happen in body. So that they can directly impact on
physical as well as mental condition (Harries, Nicholas and Mohan, 2020). This method helps in
simulating the different part of brain. Last step is normal care which provide to pregnant women.
There will be no medicine or intervention technique used because it only gives routine check-up,
care. Therefore, it helps for controlling mood swings, attitude and behaviour.
Statutory agencies support Women in their Pregnancy life event.
Many statutory agencies such as NHS etc. have been established the view to support the
pregnant women condition and situation. The agency may consider the prime bodies that provide
better services and facilities. The primary objective is to generate awareness among people about
the different kind of complication during pregnancy (Seiler, Fagundes and Christian, 2020). In
this way, it helps for providing better services in term of curing and treating problem with
pregnant women. The primary goal of NHS is to connect with individuals and identify their

significant life events. In order to connect with all those individuals, bodies working for
providing better service to patient. On the other hand, there are increasingly awareness about the
assistive technologies that can use to check overall mother and their baby. It helps them with
much greater effective to identify the entire health condition of women.
As per discussion, it can be concluded that both external voluntary and statutory agencies
support individuals through significant life events. It also provides the better facilities and
services if they are required.
P4 Role of healthcare or care assistant in providing support to individuals
There are a lot of changes which take place in a patient who is pregnant and taking care
of them is difficult. There is a physical change and a mental change in the patient which is going
through the stages of pregnancy (Charlton and et.al., 2018). There are frequent mood changes in
the person who is pregnant which have to be controlled and if not then they must get what they
wish to have so that they do not have stress because that can affect the baby. There is depressive,
exhaustion, fatigue, excitement, anxiety and other emotions all together in the person who is
going through this stage.
Roles of healthcare or care assistant are as follows.
Counselling
There is a lot of pressure on the women in pregnancy and having so many emotions at
one time can be very dangerous for which the healthcare has to be very certain as to the patient
should not go in depression (Huybrechts, Bateman and Hernández‐Díaz, 2019). There are a lot of
complexity which can come when there is a sign of depression in the women therefore it is very
essential for the healthcare to counsel the patient and talk to find out what they are feeling so that
they can be solved on time.
Gentle
There has to be gentle environment which the healthcare has to provide the patient with
so that they cannot harm the baby inside them anyhow. There are a lot of factors which can be
dangerous for the baby which has to be controlled so that the baby is not born with any kind of
health issues.
Diet control
The diet has to be healthy and no junk is allowed during pregnancy which has to be
controlled by the healthcare so that the baby can get the right nutrition which is required by the

baby. During pregnancy there are a lot of cravings which the pregnancy creates which has to be
controlled and the healthcare will have to make sure that they are followed.
Patience
There are a lot of changes in the pregnant women therefore it is very important for the
healthcare to have the right knowledge how to deal with the situation and have a lot of patience
so that the patient can be comfortable around them (Olander and et.al., 2018). There are a lot of
tantrums which the patient will have therefore it is very essential for the healthcare to be sure of
how to handle with these kinds of situations so that the best result can be taken out of it.
Regular check ups
Healthcare has to make sure that the patient is enrolling in regular checking for
themselves so that they can have a healthier baby and they can take care of their own health.
There is a lot of harm which is there in their own body as well of the mother when they give
birth therefore there are medicines which are prescribed by the doctor so that there are not many
harms on the mother and baby which the healthcare assistant should take care of.
LO3
P5 Relationship between organizational policies and practical support
There is extensive relationship between organizational policies and the practical support
which is available health and care settings. For example; currently many health and care
organizations which specially works for women safety and security has formulated many policies
in women favour. In all such policies, one policy is that if any woman is pregnant, and she works
in a company, then in this situation, management of that organization is responsible to take care
of that woman in their workplace (Erens and et.al., 2017). Another policy is, when that woman
cross seven months of pregnancy, then her company is need to offer leisure time her. It is
necessary for that pregnant woman, because in pregnancy time a woman's body become very
sensitive. In short, a social health care organization is able to create a safe and secure zone for
women by developing these policies.
On the other side, many heath care organizations are currently giving practical support
also to a pregnant woman. For example; organization's policy is to give leisure time to a pregnant
woman. In this case, many organizations, companies and businesses are actually giving leisure
time to a woman to take relaxations in time period of pregnancy. Currently many organizations
have created very supportive policies for a pregnant woman. In these policies they have

mentioned, they will give separate restroom to a pregnant woman, a nurse will provide to that
woman she can take care of her, and also will give leisure time when it necessary, etc. These are
some major practical support which many organizations have provided to a pregnant woman.
A pregnant woman feels extremely satisfied when health care organizations provides this
type of positive treatment to her. When a health care organization make policies in welfare of
pregnant lady, on that time that organization indirectly shows their high standard of humanity.
These policies are completely followed by people in different places. On the other side, Tourism
authority of the United Kingdom has presented a very favourable policy for a pregnant woman.
According to that policy, when pregnant woman travel in the public transport, in this situation,
all people who are travelling with that woman need to provide a proper seat to her in that
particular transport vehicle. Currently people in the United Kingdom complete follow in this
policy in practical manner as well. This is really great initiative by the tourism authority of this
country (Cameron and et.al., 2016). In this case, people in this country practically give support to
pregnant woman in public transport. Many literate people in the UK always try to provide a
happy and healthy environment to pregnant woman in public places.
In the United Kingdom, many other policies are also developed by different health and
care organizations. The main aim of these policies is to give an excellent atmosphere to woman
in her time of period pregnancy. Women are very satisfied with these favourable policies, and
they want thank those people also practically follow these policies in daily life. These policies
which organization has developed in welfare of pregnant woman are symbol of humanity and
literacy. Each person is necessarily needed to follow these policies in practical life to create
happy and healthy environment for pregnant woman.
P6 Period of Support to an Individual and Family Affected by Significant Life Event
After an individual experiences a significant life event such as pregnancy, they and their
close social network both require some additional encouragement, support and help from others
in order keep functioning while also taking care of the child whether born or unborn. The mother
who is pregnant requires a lot of care and attention during the pregnancy period from her social
circles and requires constant care and help in order to get by their daily activities in such a
difficult period in their lives. As any accidents or mishaps during the pregnancy period can prove
fatal for the baby in the womb, utmost care and relaxation is advised by professionals to be
imparted on the pregnant woman during her entire nine months of pregnancy. Pregnancy also

takes a huge toll on the physical and mental well- being of new mothers and their families and
friends (Moore, Dietl and Coleman, 2016). As pregnancy puts high amount of stress and pressure
on the pregnant woman's body and lifestyle, she constantly requires external support to help her
get through for a period of time starting right from the beginning of pregnancy to some period of
time after the child has been safely born. The support provided to pregnant mothers and their
close social circles are as follows:
Mental Support: As pregnancy is such a significant life event in the lives of most couples and
mothers, the pregnant woman require tremendous mental support not just from her family but
from the healthcare facilities in the area in order to ensure the safety and health of the unborn
baby. As mental stress on pregnant mother can impart adverse effects onto the unborn child,
families and friends in the close social circle need to create a positive atmosphere around the
pregnant woman and try to alleviate her of all of her problems and issues that might be putting
her in pressure or stress. During such significant life events, even a great amount of stress and
pressure is felt by the social circle of the pregnant woman trying to make everything easy for her
(Napso and et.al., 2018). It is imperative for pregnant mother's family and friends to also look
after each other’s mental well-being and to provide each other mental support in their quest to
better service the pregnant mother.
Babysitter: After pregnancy is over and the baby is born safe and healthy, the parent's struggles
are not over, on the other hand they are just beginning to surface. After a baby is born especially
in cases where the baby is the first child to the parents, they require tremendous guidance and
help from others in their social circles to aid them in taking proper care of the baby. As a new
born baby is extremely fragile and weak to infections, professional help is appreciated in the
form of babysitters and nanny in order to better support the parents in taking care of their new
born child. It can be especially helpful to new parents to have their parents babysit for them so
they can properly learn the methods required to fulfil basic needs of a child, without giving up
their new born children over to strangers.
Maternity and Paternity Leaves: Another major support new parents need in order to effectively
take care of their toddlers is the option to get paid maternity and paternity leaves from their
workplaces. Rearing a new born child is an expensive process for the parents where a lot of new
equipment and goods need to be bought to take care of the child such as prams, toys, disinfected
baby beds etc. (Chou and et.al., 2018). Add all this on top of having to take care of a child and

having to do a traditional 9-5 job is close to impossible for the parents. This is why a maternity
or paternity leave from workplaces is a major support to parents affected by such a significant
life event.
Antenatal Team: An antenatal team consists of a combination of healthcare professional such as
midwives, paediatricians, obstetricians, anaesthetists and family nurses all which provide their
services to people undergoing significant life event such as pregnancy. Professional Midwives
provide great care and attention to pregnant woman taking care of their every needs in order to
reduce their stress. Professional obstetricians are doctors who specialise in taking care of
pregnant woman's needs, requirements and issues faced and are consulted during the entire
pregnancy period by the mother and her social circles (Cheng and et.al., 2016). Professional
anaesthetists are consulted during later stages of pregnancy to provide pain relief to mothers
through anaesthetics. After the child has been born parents also require the support of
paediatricians who specialize in taking care of babies and can identify and address any problems
faced by the new born baby.
P7 Referral processes available to support an individual and their social networks
Referral process can be defined as the procedure which is used to resolve problems such
as safety issue, benefits risk balance of medicines or wide variety class of medicines. Referral
processes plays essential role because it improves and streamline communication among primary
physician, specialists as well health providers involves in a patients care (Clemens, Dibben and
Shortt, 2020). Referral process is performed by referral management system which is powerful
techniques for health providers who track patients care continuously. There are various referral
procedures which are used to support individual and their social network which is affected by
pregnancy events. Role of referral procedures in pregnancy events such as:
Primary care: Referral management system plays essential role in pregnancy event
because they support individual when they suffer from pregnancy event. Pregnancy is critical
stage for women because it leads physical, mental and emotional stress for individual. In this
period requires high attention on health as well supports from society. Referral management
system offer primary care to individual by providing nursing services. Nursing staff is not only
offering health care services as well but it also provides formulary services which is a basic
requirement for pregnancy events. Pregnancy leads to physical stress such as backache,
11
Document Page
headache, dizziness, mood swings and vomiting as well. Thus, these kind of issues can happen to
an individual person during the pregnancy event. On the other hand, emotional stress involves
feeling alone, mind disturbance due to personal issue etc. where referrals process system
involves several physician doctors who can take care of individuals and address them about
physical changes. Referral procedures involve medication services as well; physical stress can be
removed by medication which is more important for pregnant event. Referral procedure system
involves pharmacist because they have knowledge related to which medicine can be given to
pregnant women. The main reason behind is that medicine has various classes in which some
classes can react to individual or several can create life threatening for individual one.
So this event requires specialist who can prescribe right medicine which gives positive
impact on pregnant event. Pharmacists helps pregnant event to provide pharmaceutical
compliance as per the requirement of situation (Flouri, Francesconi and Lewis, 2020). Referral's
procedure system involves psychiatrist for pregnancy event because pregnancy leads to mind
stress as well. Physiatrics helps individual to resolve their issues which causes stress occurs in
their health. Primary care consultant involves in referrals procedure system which aware
individual about pregnancy complication which they can face while sleeping such as
stomachache, fever and fluctuation in blood pressure as result can feel weakness in body. So,
primary care consultant gives some trick for self medication such as use icepacks when body
temperature rises. Regular basis exercise is the best option to reduce stress from body. It is not
only leads mental stability but also keeps body healthy. Such kind advice offers by consultant to
individual which keeps them itself aware about their health care.
Social care: It is another approach which is used by referral procedure system. This
system involves family as well in pregnancy event so that they understand significance of
pregnancy event and how to give social care to them. Various charities like WHO promotes
pregnancy events by offering social care services like food, education, medication and financial
supports to them. Charity involve families so that individual doesn't feel alone. Pregnancy
requires that they are pampered by their family or others and wants to spend more time with
them. So it is the main reason to involve family in this event which make them understand what
type services they can provide to pregnancy event.
Antenatal care: it provides by referrals' procedure system to pregnant event because
most of the place across world doesn't have primary care services. So, it helps to offer primary
12
Document Page
care services across the world by establishing primary health care facilities that includes sub-
health centres, primary health centres and community health centres as well provides obesity
care. The main goal to provide primary health care facilities that various places like rural area
and remote areas where primary care hospitals doesn't available as result doesn't get primary care
to pregnancy events.
Pregnant gets positive impact of referrals procedures because it provides health care and
social care services which is more crucial for them in pregnancy stage. Even referrals system
aware individual how to keep themselves stress free. While nursing staff provides health care
services and pharmacist offers pharmaceutical services to them. Antenatal care also provides by
referrals' management to various places across the world so that pregnancy event gets primary
care on time.
CONCLUSION
Some life events happening the lives of people prove to be majorly significant in shaping
and restructuring the rest of their lives. Such significant life events affect people and their close
social circles in many different ways and coping with them can become an arduous task for them
if, if necessary external support is not received by them. In this report we firstly assess the
impact of unexpected and expected important life events on individual people and their close
social circles belonging to different ages and lifestyles. Then the report compares the way in
which external statutory and voluntary powers provide support to individuals affected by
significant life events, while discussing the wider role that professional healthcare plays in
supporting these individuals affected. The report then goes on to evaluate the relation between
the practical support received and the organisational policies implemented that are available to
individuals affected by momentous life event. The report also assesses various supports and their
time period available to individuals and groups experiencing important life event. Finally the
report analyses the referral processes that are present to support individuals and their social
circles who have been experiencing a momentous life event in their lives.
