Reflective Progress Report
A healthcare support worker delivers assistance to health care providers like nurses, doctors,
surgeons. The main responsibilities of a healthcare support worker include making beds
washing patients, serving food, and assisting the patient with movement. They learn different
skills and gather information about the profession (NHS, 2018). In this essay, my
expectations about things I will learn in the university and associated methods will be
discussed. How it will differ from my experience of learning will also be mentioned.
A healthcare support worker performs different functions throughout the day ranging from
heling the patient to do the daily task of assisting doctors in medical procedures. Therefore,
they must learn different skills in their university. Most of the students perusing the
healthcare support worker course expect the university to teach them these skills (Traynor et
al., 2015). My interest in the field also encourages me to perform well in a particular field.
Some of the skills I want to learn in the university are effective communication skills
including listening skills, organization skills, and writing skills. Communication skills are
necessary to develop a healthy relationship with the patient and other health care providers
(Singer, Benzer and Hamdan, 2015). It will allow me to learn from experienced health care
providers. Listening skills are necessary to communicate with the patient so that I can
understand what they are trying to say about their health and feelings. I am also expecting my
university to teach me about organization skills like staying focused on many tasks and apply
my time, energy, strength, psychological capacity, and efficiency to achieve the desired
outcomes. Writing skills will include academic writing, references, and plagiarism, and
presentation. I am also expecting the university to teach me about finding different research
articles and report writing. I will take help from the faculties to learn the skills and discuss
them with my fellow workers

RPR 2
My experience in learning these skills was not so good as there was no proper guidance. I
have been learning things on my own from different websites and by asking a student who
completed the course earlier. My essay writing skills were poor and the current course will
allow me to learn about critical thinking which is the most valuable skill one should have
while working in a healthcare department. Now talking about writing to about referencing
and plagiarism, I also searched for websites, but I was unable to learn to reference my work.
This course will positively help me do reference and avoiding plagiarism in reports. The
online resource can help the student to learn things but you face a problem in asking doubts. I
had no idea about the consequences of plagiarism, and how it can impact the reader and
writer. The course taught me that plagiarising someone's work is the misconduct that may
lead to penalties. I learned that I should give credit to the author whose work I have
mentioned in my report. I have also improved my presentation skills in this course. Before
starting the course, my speaking skills were poor, and I had low self-confidence. This course
taught me about being confident and speaking clearly during the presentation.
As a health care worker, there are some areas of learning that I am specifically keen to
address, for example, leadership, and clinical skills. leadership is the most important skill in
a healthcare department it helps one to lead new healthcare workers and help ourselves to
grow in the healthcare sector. Leadership allows us to work in a team and provide effective
care to the patients (Manget, 2019). Clinical skills include sterilizing medical equipment and
processing lab samples. A health care support worker also performs health promotion or
health education work to spread awareness about a particular disease or program in a
community. These types of programs require the health care support worker to help the
healthcare professional top make campaigns, posters and gather people to healthcare centers
or community centers (NHS, 2010. All these skills will be important for my professional and
personal growth.

A healthcare support worker plays an important role in the healthcare department and
supports the healthcare professional in different medical tasks. I am expecting from the
course that I will be learning about communication skills, organization skills, and writing
skills. this course will be different from my experience as previously I have poor information
about plagiarism and the importance of references in a report. As healthcare support works, I
keen to address skills like leadership skills, and clinical skills.
