A hospital surveillance system is a critical, systemic collection, analysis, and
interpretation of data relating to health that is required in planning, application, and assessment
of public health services (Groseclose & Buckeridge, 2017). The surveillance system offers
scientific and factual data that is key to informed decision making and significant public health
activities. Therefore, the primary objective of the surveillance system is to offer statistics to
guide interventions.
The success of all health initiatives within a hospital setting is highly dependent on the
aggregation of health-related data. Without accurate and current data, disorders can be
misinterpreted; health programs do not meet their set goals, and resources are not allocated
