Report
AI Summary
This report examines healthcare workforce development within the context of health information technology (HIT). It emphasizes the critical role of nurse informaticists in implementing clinical applications and preparing the workforce. The report highlights the need for a structured workforce development plan, including identifying subject matter experts, learning needs, and objectives. It discusses various training approaches such as instructor-led training and eLearning, as well as the importance of aligning training with end-user characteristics to manage costs. The report also addresses information security measures, including the use of antivirus software and firewalls to protect patient data. Several case studies illustrate the practical application of these concepts, including interprofessional team support, medication reconciliation, and the impact of technology failures. The report concludes by underscoring the importance of training as a backup procedure to ensure safe patient care even without access to HIT.

According to this chapter, proficient use of HIT is very much imperative for safe
delivery, efficient and quality patient care. Nurse informaticists have been found to play a
major role in the development and implementation of the clinical applications including the
workforce preparation for using HIT. HIT is abbreviated as health information technology
which is associated with the reduction of workforce development. Thus, it can be stated that
the development of a workforce development plan requires a clear understanding of nursing
educator needs who are responsible for training the workforce. These educators are also
required to teach about the process of changes and how the internal environment is impacted
by the external environment. The development of workforce plan requires the proper and
accurate identification of subject matter expert, learning needs, goals and objectives
associated with the effort scope. Proper training in an ideal time has been found to be
important in the introduction of policies, which are relevant in the maintenance of patient
security and privacy (Hebda, Hunter & Czar, 2019).
Patient privacy and security can be maintained by the use of PHI (personal health
information), use of emails and computer resources as system downtime procedures, use of
the camera, equipment-cleaning protocols, and management of passwords, device removal
and use of personal devices. Development of workforce has been found to entail more than
the healthcare educator workers, which entails the information security and allows the entire
HIT to perform their activities. Training approaches can vary by the inclusion of instructor-
led training, self-guided learning, eLearning, in time training and organizational resource
pieces of training which helps in the management and control of training costs (Hebda,
Hunter & Czar, 2019). Training need matches associated with end-user characteristics have
been found to manage and control the training costs. The software and training development

maximize the learning outcomes. The business evaluation has been found to be difficult in
the determination of other variables which are benefits associated with new technologies and
return on investment (ROI) is responsible for all cost associated training measured against the
positive business impacts and benefits for the organizations. Various case studies including
interprofessional team, support and decision adoption systems, medication reconciliation,
emotional intelligence, scope creep, end-user needs, and failure due to lack of integration and
registration errors have been found to be associated with HIT.
Thus, it can be stated that in order to include training as the backup procedures for
staffs to provide safe patient care and other clinical operations without the access to HIT,
various healthcare organizations have used the above-discussed strategies in order to take
care of the situation. There are various healthcare workers who have never used a paper in
order to manage patient care of having use HIT for patient care and management. This is all
about this chapter of health and information technologies.
