Problem statement
Absence of healthy working environment in business is extremely contagious and leads
to several setbacks for the entities having one. The entire organization is affected badly in terms
of individual performance and organizational performance if unhealthy working environment
tends to persist. As commented by Di Fabio (2017), lack of healthy working environment
hampers the overall productivity and performance of the business organization. As negativity
exists, the moral of the employees are compromised that results in conflicts, disrespect and
inadequate support for each other thereby, disturbing and interrupting the smooth flow of work
within the organization. As a result, the business is unable to deliver ensuring quality and within
time thereby, failing to achieve business mission and vision (Awan & Tahir, 2015).
As known, employees are the key internal resources that present the business in front of
the target audience and industry sector. Hence, if the employees are disturbed and fails to
perform well due to the absence of a healthy working environment, the business is imposed with
severe losses. However, as argued by Hillary (2017), unhealthy working environment
undermines relationships among the co-workers that affect the dedication and commitment
towards individual roles and responsibilities. Due to conflicts, the employees lack empathy, co-
ordination and co-operation among themselves due to which supporting and helping each other
gets affected negatively. The employees lack coherency among themselves that leads to failure in
meeting business objectives and mission thereby, affecting the productivity and performance of
the business negatively. Hence, the businesses lose competitive advantage because the customer

working environment in business. In business, healthy working environment is necessary
because it develops positivity and coherency within the corporate culture that influences and
contributes better and efficient emphasis on the goals and objectives of the business.
Characteristics of healthy working environment in business
Having a healthy working environment in business is necessary because it bring in
several benefits in the long term. According to Jimenez, Winkler and Dunkl (2017), one of the
prominent characteristics of healthy working environment is positive values. This helps in
building and imbibing positivity within the employees that result in increased moral and self-
esteem. For instance, a positive mission statement influences highest commitment towards
quality and service to each other, stakeholders and customers. However, as argued by Catano and
Morrow Hines (2016), building positive values and ensuring its persistence is inconsistent. Apart
from positive values, open and honest communication is another characteristic of healthy
working environment. Open and effective communication among the employees create
friendship that make work fun and more productive. Each of the employees develop a sense of
humbleness and compassion towards each other and extends support and help thereby, ensuring
clear flow of information (Gupta, Kumar and Singh, 2014). In addition to, open and honest
communication facilitates support, co-operation and empowerment thereby, establishing positive
working environment.
Another significant characteristic of heathy working environment is commitment to
excellence. According to this, the employees give more than 100% and strive to be the best
thereby, delivering superior quality services and products. Due to the existence of positive
working environment, the employees take responsibility for their actions and decisions. As a
result, the employees goes an extra mile for completing their responsibilities and supporting the
working environment in business. In business, healthy working environment is necessary

However, as argued by Baer (2015), positive leadership plays a great role in creating a healthy
working environment. Good and prominent leaders set positive example for the entire workforce
and led them to excellent performance. Having a good leader build healthy working environment
by developing respect, trust and positivity among the employees. As a result, the employees
shows greater level of efficiency and co-operation thereby, enabling the businesses to gain
competitive advantage and be successful.
Challenges in establishing healthy working environment in business
Developing a healthy working environment is often challenging because it requires
continuous and consistent effort and cannot be achieved at a go. As mentioned by Moore, Everly
and Bauer (2016), understanding the views and needs to individual employees and developing
strategies for fulfilling those in order to develop a positive working environment is difficult. This
is because the mindset of the employees at workplace keep of changing and changing according
to them is unfeasible and impractical. However, as argued by Hanaysha (2016), establishing
healthy working environment is difficult and challenging because of the conflicts that keeps on
arising. Difference in views and perceiving things give rise to conflicts that affects healthy
working environment. Conflicts give rise to negativity and misunderstanding among the
employees thereby, affecting the relationship, respect and trust among each other. As a result, the
employees stops communicating with one another that interrupts the smooth flow of work and
forces the business into loss.
Performance issues also affects formation of healthy working environment in business
because not all employees have equal capabilities of performing similar duties. When one
employee is performing better than another employee is, jealousy tend to arise that eventually

give rise to interpersonal conflicts. This interpersonal conflict keep on growing that leads to
rough competition, gossip and discrimination thereby, building a negative working environment
(Di Fabio, 2016). The employee unable to perform well is bullied or harassed or even cornered
that harms the self-esteem, confidence and igniting negative feeling for each other. This affects
the establishment of healthy working environment in business and brings in own set of
challenges such as inadequate competitive advantage and developing an unproductive and
inefficient workforce (Laschinger et al., 2014).
Significance of having healthy working environment in business
In business, having a healthy working environment is necessary and have numerous
benefits those cannot be denied. As mentioned by Thompson, Strickland and Gamble (2015),
healthy working environment is beneficial in businesses because it help in attracting more
employees. As the existing employees spread positive word-of-mouth, it help in attracting new
applicants because individuals like to work in an environment that is free of conflicts and
misunderstandings. Thus, as the pool of applicants is increases, it become easier for the business
to recruit the best quality employee entirely. However, as argued by Loeppke et al. (2015),
healthy working environment in business helps in reducing financial resources in business
because the cost of turnover is not cheap. The price of losing an employee accounts up to the
salary of more than six months within the organization. Hence, healthy working environment in
business help in building self-esteem, motivation and satisfaction with job.
In addition to, healthy working environment also reduces the rate of absenteeism. This is
because the employees show higher level of commitment, engagement and dedication towards
their job roles and responsibilities and the sheer joy they feel while performing their duties due to
healthy working environment and positive set of mind (Arseculeratne & Yazdanifard, 2014).

However, on the contrary, healthy working environment in business results in increased
productivity because of the positivity that persists in the working environment. Support, co-
operation and co-ordination ensures clear flow of information and uninterrupted workflow
thereby, making the business highly productive. As a result, businesses are able to generate
revenue, earn profit and gain competitive advantage in concerned business sector (Nolan, 2015).
Summary
Thus, it can be summarized that having a healthy environment to work in business is
necessary for making the employees highly productive and fruitful. Businesses are able to
achieve greater heights and competitive advantage when healthy working environment persists.
However, establishing a healthy working environment comes with own set of challenges those
are inevitable.
Methodology
For determining the importance of healthy working environment, positivism philosophy
will be appropriate. This is because this philosophy will facilitate supporting the evidence of
about the significance of healthy working environment with statistical evidence. Additionally,
relevant facts and logic about healthy working environment and its significance for business can
also be proved if positivism philosophy will be used. Supporting the data by using statistical
evidence will help in ensuring data validity and reliability because the theoretical data about the
importance of healthy working environment can be justified with numbers and figures (Jamshed,

environment. As a result, in-depth and better in-sight about the significance of having a healthy
working environment in businesses can be investigated. Additionally, deductive approach is the
most suitable approach when positivism is used. Deductive approach will also help in
determining the impact and effectiveness of healthy working environment in business followed
by highlighting the benefits and necessity of having it for businesses (Kumar, 2019).
In terms of design, descriptive research design will be most appropriate because this
design shows the dual characteristics of both explanatory and exploratory research designs. As a
result, the issues in establishing a healthy working environment can be identified and addressed
that can help in evaluating the impact on businesses. Additionally, using descriptive design will
help in figuring out the reasons that create issues in establishing a healthy working environment
that imposes negative impact in business (Mackey & Gass, 2015).
In terms of strategy, survey strategy will be the most appropriate because this will help in
considering the perspectives of the employees about the significance of having a healthy working
environment for them. Survey will also be appropriate because this strategy is less time and
effort consuming and information can be collected from large population. As survey is easily
administered, using it for finding the significance of having a healthy working environment in
business will be easy. The online platform will be used for circulating the close-ended
questionnaire to the employees for achieving the aim of the research (Taylor, Bogdan &
DeVault, 2015).
In terms of sampling technique, probability-sampling technique will be the most
appropriate one. This is because probability-sampling technique will provide equal chances to
the entire employee population to share their views about the significance of having a healthy
environment. As a result, in-depth and better in-sight about the significance of having a healthy

working environment. From the entire population, 70 employees will be selected randomly and
their opinion about having a healthy working environment will be considered in businesses
(Flick, 2015).
In terms of data collection process, primary data collection process will be the most
suitable. This is because data about the significance of having a healthy working environment
can be collected for the first time that will include recent and updated views regarding the
importance of having it for businesses. Additionally, primary data collection process will help in
collecting data those are highly relevant and specific for businesses that will ensure better and
enriched research (Bresler & Stake, 2017).
In terms of data analysis technique, quantitative data analysis technique will be most
appropriate. This is because the opinion of the employees about the significance of having a
healthy working environment can be interpreted in numbers. As a result, the perspective of
employees can be estimated in numbers and values. Hence, both co-relation and regression can
be used for determining the significance of a healthy working environment in businesses
(Alvesson & Skoldberg, 2017).
Research ethics compliance is a necessity for completing the work successfully. Under no
circumstances research ethics compromise can be supported and entertained while commencing
with any research. Data confidentiality is one of the significant research ethics that needs to be
abided by and for that the survey data will have to be collected unanimously. This will help in
