THE HERBAL REMEDY 2
Introduction
The use of herbal medicine is a fundamental concept that is practiced in African
traditional health care systems. In most of the rural areas of Africa, the herbal remedy has been
used by the traditional healers to prescribe drugs to the patients. Tradition herbal remedy can be
described as the summation of knowledge, beliefs, skills that are used to maintain the health of
the indigenous people of different cultures (Yuan, Ma, Ye and Piao, 2016). According to the
statistics carried by a world health organization,85% of the emerging population relies purely on
herbal remedies. The herbal remedy includes herbs from different organic plants, herbal
preparations that contain some parts materials as the active agents in preparation. Moreover,
many countries like Ethiopia health care’s use home remedies as the primary care to their
patients. The herbal remedies like Ayurveda, Kampo, and African remedies have proved to be
useful remedies to human health. In the discussed, the home remedy will be discussed, how to
persuade the practitioners to collect evidence, and how to protect their intellectual property will
be focused upon.
The traditional herbal remedies.
It is evident that home remedy treatments have been used to alleviate some ailments. The
use of natural products was invented by early humans. Traditional medicines like Kampo,
Ayurveda, and African remedies employ the use of natural products to extract medicine. For
example, Kampo is a traditional medicine which was developed in Japan (Ping-chung, 2015).
The medicine was adopted by the Japanese practitioners so that it can be used in particular
circumstances when the individuals from the country were sick. Kampo medicine has proved to
treat cancer patients, used in radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Though western medicine has been

What to say to practitioners to persuade them to collect evidence concerning the
herbal remedy
It is ethical first to allow them to treat me with their herbal remedies. This will allow me
to ask them many questions. Like where do you extract the plants, where can we find those
plants, the methods used to obtain the representative medicine, what are the requirements needed
to prepare the herbs. In allowing them to offer treatment, they will be persuaded to explain by
giving me the evidence. Another method is talking in a culturally sensitive language in which
they will understand (Chiavaroli, 2017). Most of them are indigenous people who do not
understand the western language. In this, it is good to speak their first language so that they can
explain the procedures they use to prepare the herbal remedies. Hence, this will enable me to
collect the evidence required. Moreover, as a form of appreciation to the work they are doing in
society, I can show my generosity by giving them money to support their work. This motivates
them to give me all the techniques they use to prepare the herbal remedies; hence, in this, the
evidence required will be obtained. (Drahos, 2016).

How to protect their intellectual property
One is by applying for patent protection. I this it will enable not to disclose the products
and the processes being reviewed by the traditional medical practitioner. This allows the
information to be kept confidential in the individual country without being disclosed to other
countries. The other method to protect intellectual property is by trade secret protection. This is
another mechanism which is used to protect intellectual property by not disclosing the
information being offered the traditional medical practitioners. This also doesn’t allow any
individual to disclose any information by the concert of the medical practitioners. Moreover,
another way to protect is by trademark protection, in this, I will keep the information confidential
by not allowing anything to be published in the books or written in any dimension (Schön, 2017).
Conclusion
In conclusion, the herbal remedy was used by early human beings and are also being used
in modern days. This is because they are considered to be effective in curing chronic diseases.
Most of the herbal remedies are got from natural plant extracts. Some of the countries use them
in their health care. When approaching the traditional medical practitioners to get evidence, one
should use the language they speak, use persuasive language, which will motivate them in
disclosing their intellectual property. Their intellectual property can be protected through trade
mark protection, trade secret protection, and patent protection.
