Analysis of growth and development of Heritage and Culture Industry
Heritage has an important part in tourism
development. It is the various features of a
culture that includes traditions, natural and
man made resources and languages that have
been carried and passed on from generations.
Heritage is important as it gives an identity to
places so that they can be remembered by
learning and communicating, which creates a
shared understanding and builds the interest of
tourists.
UK has various tourist attractions which is why they are the 6th largest destination for travel.
They include:
 Natural Attractions: UK naturally has many rivers and seaside resorts which offer
scenic views to people. Scafell Pike and The Screes, Swallow falls and seven sisters
cliffs are some natural attractions that are loved by tourists when they visit the country.
 Constructed Attractions: Man made attractions were brought to attention in 1972.
There are castles which were made as attractions in the 1990s and were built in 1986.
Theatres were introduced in 1982. The most famous is home of Oxford, which has
buildings and museums with fine architecture. There are monuments and sculptures all
over the country. Since early 2000's, Graffiti on public walls have become a part of
their culture as well.
 Cultural Heritage: There are various sceneries, galleries and museums that give free entries to
tourists (Aitchisonand et.al., 2014). New hotels and restaurants were were set up with the
growth and development of this industry.
 Transport: In 1952, UK started using cars and road transportations. Today, they have taxis,
ubers and many cars that is owned and used by citizens. Their rail transport was initiated in
1994 and has been developed into metros in the recent years, due to high growth in the
industry.
 Sports: It is an important part of UK's culture and they have hosted the Olympics, common
wealth games, FIFA and many other champion leagues. Their cuisine includes a variety of
specialities which are heavy breakfasts, afternoon tea and many home baked goods.
 Education : This culture allows citizens to enhance knowledge and many outsiders go to UK
for further studies (Van der Wagen and White, 2018). Many famous artists, musicians and
actors have been brought up in the country and they created a unique culture for everyone to
Conflicts of Interest: Various conflicts of interests have happened in UK. Due to the high
amount of tourists that visit, there has been an increase in pollution, lack of proper grooming
and caring of monuments and sculptures. Greenery has seen a decrease as shops, restaurants,
hotels are being built. These developments have caused harm to the environment and culture is
slowly fading away (Du Cros and McKercher, 2014). New technology has been adopted by the
tourism industry, which makes it easier for tourists to book rooms and tables as well as explore
the city. But this creates an increase in capital costs of organisations in this sector as they have
to purchase and install new software and train their management to work according to changes
implemented. This may harm industry's growth and development if not properly adopted
