1.1 GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF HERITAGE AND CULTURE INDUSTRY
The growth and development of heritage and culture is crucial to be maintained as it will
help in attracting large number of tourists towards the country. These include various
elements that helps in gaining knowledge about historical and traditional places. Tourism
covers a various tourists which may include both type of travellers domestic and
international. It covers the social values as well that increases the vitality of these sectors.
The development in these sectors have taken place gradually. The purposes of travel and
tourism in earlier times were limited to trade, business, pilgrimage etc. Very less number of
people took interest in travelling for leisure purpose or for visiting different interesting
places. With various developments that took place in travel and tourism sector also devised
drastic changes in the attitude of people towards tourism. People started taking interest in
visiting places that provides eye-catching beauties, natural sceneries, cultural places etc.
With this, the developments took place and government also started getting involved in
flourishing these areas so that tourists can be attracted and satisfied with various beauties of
country.
This will aid in preservation of Tibetan culture, language, heritage sites along with
various religious beliefs of country. As a result it will promote development of
culture in country at present as well as for future generation. In this sense, some of
the measures that are taken by government includes some concrete steps that has
attempted to save Barkhor, Jokhang temple and Tibetan theme parks of the country.
These measures have been made with joint efforts of government and private
concerns so that development can be arranged at a wider level to cover overall
aspects in country which are as follows:
Both authorities try to address issues of various places as soon as possible
which may include the needs of repairs, renovations, development of
infrastructures in surrounding areas etc.
They make regular studies and researches with the help of experts in areas
of culture and heritage sites so that they can give suggestions on the
opportunities for making development.

Lhasa, which is a capital of Tibet is a place which is rich in
cultural and heritage sites that can attract large number of tourists
from different parts of world. It showcases heritage places of 17th
century that includes various temples of Buddha, high altitude
treks, religious place of Dalai lama and many more. The climatic
conditions of this country is also very favourable that makes
natural beauty of this place very pleasing. Further, the hospitality
services given by the country also makes people to visit here
frequently. The major attraction for domestic and international
travellers in Lhasa are monuments, natural sceneries, cultural
buildings, museums, etc. Thus, here the role of government
increases and it becomes necessary for them to enforce some
plans that can contribute in proper development of these sites.
Here, some measures may be taken to promote culture of Tibet
by its government by promoting various policies.
Efforts are being made with the help of local level government
bodies so that development procedures can be implemented
rapidly.
The government of China has invested a large amount for
making renovation of buildings and their constructions so that
various heritage sites can be conserved for desired purposes.
Apart from all the above stated development plans, some other
measures have been made so that surrounding areas beside these natural
and cultural sites can also be replenished with all required facilities.
With this objective, the Intercontinental Hotels group (IHG) has made a
plan to construct a hotel called Resort Lhasa Paradise which will be
containing 1100 rooms. This hotel is expected to be the biggest
Luxurious hotel of Lhasa. Thus, the overall development of travel and
tourism will result in growth of economy, enhancement of GDP,
generation of employment opportunities, increase in living standard of
people etc.
