AI Summary
This essay provides a summary of Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory of motivation, introduced by Frederick Herzberg in 1959, which posits that job satisfaction and dissatisfaction stem from different factors: hygiene factors and motivational factors. Hygiene factors, such as pay, fringe benefits, and job security, prevent dissatisfaction but do not necessarily lead to satisfaction. Motivational factors, including growth opportunities, responsibility, and recognition, lead to positive satisfaction and motivate employees to perform better. The essay illustrates how modern organizations, like Tesco Plc, can apply this theory by ensuring adequate hygiene factors to avoid dissatisfaction and creating stimulating and rewarding work to motivate staff, ultimately enhancing productivity and goal achievement.
