Week1- Activity 1- Ford and Taylorism

1. Would workers in Australia, America or Europe accept the Taylorism in this form

today?

According to the methods and principles of Ford, it is necessary to adopt the rule of Taylor in the

functions and operations of the industry. By listening to the video, it can be evaluated that in the

modern era, a car can be developed that includes the number of months and years to complete the

process. He also states that the Handmade car is so expensive in nature and that can be purchased

by the rich person for luxury. In 1908 they develop a vision that the manufacturing company can

be changed by Ford who decided to form a new market and develop the simple car to bring horse

and buggy. He is also affected by the effective power of Taylor that describes that no worker

waste their time on evaluating their pace and effectiveness of working. By asserting this view, he

decided to devote most of time to improve the efficiency level and also rise the speed of

resources.

It can also be analyzed that to increase the level of production from 300% Taylor rearranged the

things and divide into different stages. He further denotes that individuals can learn the job but

still there is lack of speed and efficiency so to develop it, it is necessary to complete the work

within less time and input more production. By observing all the above details, it can be

determined that Australia, Europe, and America accept the rule of Taylor to attain the goals by

diving the task into group (
Carter and Varney, 2018).
2. Consider the design of scripts for use in Call Centres, can you see Taylorism in that?

Explain.

It can be noted that the rule of Ford and Taylor emphasis on the principle to divide the work

in to different number of individuals, level of production, wages that can be given to the

employees for the production. Due to this there will be increase in the supply of labor and

demand that leads to the mass production. It can also be estimated that the rule of Taylor is

not beneficial for the call centre as in that there will be no role to divide the work and there

is no fear among the employees. The main task of the call centre is to deals with the number

of calls on that basis they receive the incentives and awards. The call centre frames the
different rules and regulations within the organization and those regulations are not

followed by ford. The principles of Taylor change the method of production that leads to the

increase in the level of efficiency in relation to work. From the above analyses, it can be

determined that the principle of Taylor is centre based and that depends on the customers

(Hickman and Silva, 2018.).

3. This ‘clip’ is showing history from 100 years ago. Some would say that ‘the world has
moved on’ and these ideas are out of date.
However, could there be parts of the world
today for which these ideas might be just what they need? Explain.

By watching the clip, it can be identified that in 1908, the Taylor develops the vision to change

the manufacturing industry to other and wants to make the task easier. They also consider that

the workers not determine their potential for how they are less efficient and slow in the process

of manufacturing. According to the principle of Taylor, the task can be divided into workers that

also decrease the pressure of work at different levels. By this, there will be cooperation and

coordination in the workers in organizations.

It can be estimated that the principle of Taylor states that it is not the thumb rule that leads to the

increase in the efficiency level. In an organization the decision can be taken by the managers by

analyzing the judgments and decisions that are based on the perspectives. It can be asserted that

there should be no conflict among the workers; they should have to work in a coordinate way to

develop the rule (
Organisation Worker control, 2012).

Week-3-Activity 2- Definition of culture
1. Why do you think people’s definition of culture may vary?

It can be noted that Culture is consistent and it has observable patterns of behaviors in

organizations. Culture provides the way to handle the issues and problems and also helps to

diagnose the problems and develop and design the better cultures. There are different definitions

of culture that define various roles such as on the basis of large part culture can be stated as the

product of compensation. According to the Bruce Perron, culture can be defined as the jointly

shared description within the organization. He states that culture is the method of sense-making

that is the collaborative method of creating awareness and understanding from various

perspectives and interests. According to Alan Adler, the culture of an organization can be

defined as a civilization in workplace (
Hamilton, 2018). Its emphasis on the evolution of
organization shaped the culture. By evaluating all the above definitions, it can be estimated that

the society is dynamic in nature that means it changes according to the change in environment.

Likewise, the views of people change an they have different opinions in context of the culture. It

can be noted that if the opinions and beliefs are similar then there will be no variation in the

organization culture and employees can work in better environment. If the individuals have

different beliefs and opinions then their culture can vary according to them.

2. Which definition of culture do you agree with most and why?

It can be noted that without every organization have their own culture as without it no one

can perform an an effective manner. Culture of organizations depends on the circumstances

and situations that arise within the organizations. There are different definitions of culture

that has their own roles and impacts in organization. It can be culture plays a crucial role to

conduct the behavior in organizations and it also exists in real world. By evaluating the

different definitions, the best definition is given that culture depicts the sum of values and

rituals that serve as ‘glue’ to integrate the members of organizations. It not only depicts the

shared view of “what is” but also “Why is”. It states that culture is embedded and the rituals

and values that reinforce the account. It also emphasis on the symbols that includes the

eccentric languages that can be used in organizations. If the employees can work by
adopting the rituals and cultures then they can easily perform the task and that leads to the

goals. By these values, they can easily coordinate and manage the activities in organizations

(Harvard Business Review, 2013).

Conclusion
From the above analyses, it can be determined that different activity has a different view. In

week 1 –Activity 1 there is lack of technology that states that the Taylor can’t perform better

and they have to use the handmade products. They have to make the necessary arrangements

to increase the efficiency of resources. In Week 3 – Activity-2 they analyse the variation of

culture and that depends on the environment that leads to change in beliefs and opinions of a

person.
