Week 2 Activity 2: Pankaj Ghemawat on Globalisation
1. Has your view on globalisation changed after listening to Professor Ghemawat?
Explain
As per the views of Pankaj Ghemawat it is considered that our world is not flat, there is a
connection between national and cross national borders in every area. He provides much
information flow from the beginning that includes people, capital, products and services etc.
the scale of Phone calls, foreign direct investment, exports, immigrants are increased due to
the cross national borders, and it directly enhances the economy power (Ghemawat, 2012).
Due to long-term flow and with the help of internet across the cross-border countries the
percentage flow of data is more increased. Further, he said that with the innovative
technology all political barriers, all cultural barriers, all geographic barriers are reduced and it
makes very easy to connect people with each other. for example, Facebook creates the good
relationship with different people of the country, friends and relatives etc. It is an ideal type
of technology, which joins people in the wider manner and a large percentage of people's
friends on Facebook. He presented a lot of data in his book of foreign policy about the
globalisation and why the world is still around.

2. Consider where you have seen the fears that people have about globalisation. Do you
think these fears may subside with some data points that may suggest otherwise?
People living in the local, national and international world are connected on Facebook and
they are living such relationship with fair manner. Globaloney may be very dangerous to the
health due to totally open in the social media. It is a harmful way of getting people to pay
more attention to globalization relevant issues. People on social media are much open with
each other for additional gains, for additional integration and several reasons, all types of
influences on which people talked about (Ghemawat, 2012). So it is necessary that people
must understand about a particular room for personal information and which information is
contributed to global welfare. People have fear about globalization is exacerbate by a large
number of people shifts to other countries such as immigrants as well as a large number of a
budget is given to foreign aid which was wrong. The actual percentage of immigrants is 8%
and foreign aid is 1% and some of the people supported and increases the fund in foreign aid,
and this is a most aid to poor people of the country. He further concluded that radical
openness is great it shows how close we are, even incremental openness cam create things
dramatically better (Krugman, 2017).

Week 3 Activity 2: Definition of culture
1. Why do you think people’s definition of culture may vary?
Culture is frequent and observable nature of behaviour in the organisation. The different
authors have different views on a culture that, people are doing what they repeatedly do.
Culture is forcefully created by incentives, such as monetary and non-monetary rewards
recognition, status and sanctions. Culture is a method of sense-making; it means the
combined process of making shared awareness and getting the perspectives of a different
person having different interest. Culture means a carrier which provides the story where
people are involved in an organisation with different rituals and values (Watkins, 2013). It
also concentrates attention on the significance of symbols and requires understanding people
and culture. The culture of an organisation is civilization at the employment level and culture
is a system under the control of society. The culture reinforces and promotes the rights
behaviour and thinking power and sanctioning incorrect behaviour and thinking. Culture is
also considered as the immune system of organisation which protects the wrong people and
wrong thinking to enter into the organisation. Culture makes easy the condition in a big
organisation to imagine there is a single culture and it is complicated for new leaders to avoid
the subcultures. An organisation has a living culture which can follow the reality as early as
possible (Corfield and Paton, 2016)

2. Which definition of culture do you agree with most and why?
Abdi Osman Jama defines that organization is considered as living culture which can accept
the reality as early as possible. The organization culture is vibrant which changes with the
internal and external modifications constantly and incrementally. It is complicated to assess
the culture of an organization but in actuality, it is necessary to accept the culture as per
changes in an organization. Changing the culture is a regular process and its management is
necessary within the organization. The organization culture must always be developing and
learning that is beneficial for the future growth and success of an organization in accordance
with modernization and innovative technology. Every individual of the organization tries to
do best effort to adopt the new culture as per new changes and modification according to
suitability and preferences of an individual. Culture promotes the correct thinking and
behaviour pattern in the organization and eliminating the wrong conduct. The correct
existing norms of the culture must have prevailed for a long period of time in an organization
(Senarathna, et. al., 2014).
