It is a tough time to start a career, but in this ever-changing world and rising to the
challenges in the job market students can easily achieve success by having skills and knowledge.
Skills and knowledge are two most important factors for every individual from which students
can easily maintain work quality and perform in this challenging world. Study skills and other
professional skills allow individual learner to improve their chances of success on the basis of
higher education experience and improve focus on career development. The present essay is
based on suggestions given on boosting CV if students can't get enough work experience. In the
current scenario which is given in the newspaper article Alex is a student faced internship related
issue at Sheffield Hallam university. When asked her about internship she missed out which
makes her quite nervous about getting any work at the moment. Due to this her confidence level
hinders a lot which can impact performance. Certain important suggestions which can be given
to boost CV and enhance work experience are discussed as follows:
Make your own experience
The employment opportunities in the current scenario has hinder capabilities of students.
In the current scenario which is post covid-19, many students who just passed their graduation
and want to make career in different field are observed to be compromising upon the required
work experience as well as skills. Many employers can be observed to be compromising upon
the required work experience as they are hiring people with lesser work experience than actually
required by the organization (Agustina, 2021). Human resources department and employers in
the company are unable to recruit and select people with good qualification and more work
experience. This compromise has been made by them just because of Covid-19. Employers hit
by pandemic are cancelling work experience, learning new skills, leaving many students to chase
a shrinking number of opportunities. So, it is very important for students who want to achieve
job opportunities need to focus and properly concentrate on their work experience so that it
would be beneficial for them to improve CV. Experience is most valuable assets in the world of
employment to make CV attractive one should improve own experience. An individual might
face challenges while building their own experience but it is worth it. This will help in
continuous development and improvement in experience. They need to focus on expertise and

knowledge both together to be able to get the right jobs as per their qualifications and experience
in these tough times of shrinking job opportunities.

students upgrade themselves. They must focus on getting experience online rather than using

universities and employers run schemes, so it is very essential and beneficial for people to search
it. This will not only help students in every aspect but also get students working on real projects.

internships as well as remote work experiences. As this is a good option an individual can get

experience will help students improve their career related opportunities which means that

CV, I am currently happy with my resume and key skills which I have included in it. However, I
am seeking better development opportunities which allow me to explore new learning
opportunities and enhance my experience. I need to focus on some of the skills which is very
effective for pursuing future career. I think my CV is effective which can help me explore new
job opportunities in the areas. To improve my career opportunities, I must add new skills and
abilities which would help me in improving career development.

In today's era, competition is increasing day by day which creates pressure on students to
score good marks and learn new skills to be at the top list. Every company wants to have a
candidate who has good knowledge and skills which can be used by them in various situations.
The present essay is based on skills which students develop at university and its importance in
the workplace. There are many skills which must be developed by students so that they can
achieve success in this competitive job market. For students and learners, it is very important to
have degree which can give them advantage because it demonstrates that student have skills
which are useful in a variety of situations at workplace.

During the academic journey of student, there are many skills which they gain and learn
new things which is useful in the workplace. For bright future, students must have transferable
skills to become more efficient learners. With the help of academic skills, students can gain good

the confidence to participate fully in classroom studies. Learning new skills is very important for
learners as it requires students to be willing to experiment. However, learning new skills, might
face failures and disappointments but that will help students a lot in preparing them to accept
challenges and failures gracefully. With the learning of new skills, student is able to develop the
positive attitude towards task and assignment given to him. By using academic skills/
transferable skills, students can enhance their positive attitude and develop never give up kind of
attitude which must have needed in student life (Xiang and Liu, 2019). Skills are developed with
the help of learning process, so students needs to master certain skills. Whenever a student is on
the hunt for graduate level jobs and especially if they don't have much to add to graduate CV and
don't know what to add in work experience section. Then there are range of skills gained at
university must be included as it would help them stand out in what is an increasingly
competitive pool of people. Following are the skills which student gained at university and help
them offer value now and increase progress in career.

Self motivation- many student notice a big jump when they make the move to university,
so for them self motivation is needed. From attending classes to completing homework student
will have been closely monitored by teachers at university. Keeping student self-motivated is
very necessary as it will help in learning self-discipline to attend on time classes, clean and
finishing assignments on time. So, it is very much important for students to increase the ability to
motivate themselves so that they can easily complete tasks on time without facing issue. It is not
always compulsory that student will get constant push from peers or teachers, when there is no
one constantly pushes for learning skills and to do well, it is very much important to exercise self
motivation practices and self-discipline every day. This skill is developed by students at
university and encourage them to learn how to present their best self in whatever task they are
doing. With the help of self motivation, student is able to become more positive and overcome
negative influences (Lisá, Hennelová and Newman, 2019).
Time management is another skill which is learned by student at university time.
Whenever in the survey it is asked student that what they have learned in university, many
students would answer that they have learned time management. From learning new skills to
completing task on time university forces people to manage time in an effective manner. For
students, preparing a weekly schedule that involves meals, study time, quality time with family
and friends is very important as it helps them improve their work. It has been said that being a
college student is like having a full time job so for students time management skills work as
transferable skills (Xiang and Liu, 2019). This not only helps in scheduling work and balance
life but also helps in stress management. For every graduate jobs in the market, time
management skills gained at university will be valuable as it would help people in managing
work life and personal life together. To be successful and achieve goals, students needs to
prioritize and balance various projects on the basis of their immediate need. Whenever students
are given many different responsibilities, the ability to make priority list and balance various task
together will be key to student success. This shows their ability to manage things even in
difficult situation. Students can add time management skills to their skills section. It has been
said that time management is not only about managing study or work, it also involves personal
management. This includes the ability for employers to organize things, being creative execute
and make independently plan rather than wait for someone to do this for them. One of the biggest
adjustment for new college students is the newfound freedom. During the academic years,

students have an increase in personal responsibility as they have to manage everything by their
own. Many students leave their homes and start living hostel or bachelor's life during academic
journey. There are no required meal times, no one to tell student when to sleep or get them up
like parents do at home, an increase in their academic workload makes them more stronger than
ever before. They have to manage social opportunities and challenges all together. So for this
they need to understand the value of time and start managing it by making use of various tools
like time table. With the time passes they start learning things by their own and also start
managing things without having support from other people. While giving interview in big
organisation employers will be looking to employees more and more for innovative solutions to
issues that exist, employees with skills like personal management as well as creative skills.
Personal management, money management, stress management and time management are some
important skills which is developed by students at university which is also important in the
workplace for their future career (Adams and Blair, 2019).
Teamwork is another best skills which is transferable. It is very important for students to
work in a team, it is also most essential skills which is needed at every step of one's career. An
effective team work together which help in producing more. Students must understand the
importance of unity then only they can work together in their professional career. In
organisation, people will have to work together on some difficult projects, in doing so many
times they will have to confront each other and argues on each other decisions. For student,
teamwork is something that will be valuable to every people working in the firm. So, for future
career it is very important to add this skill into work experience skills.
Communication, the words says it all, throughout university student have had to
communicate with a range of people. Whether it is a working professional or student,
communication skill is much needed and required to achieve goals. Communication is the basis
of any successful company but it needs to work with sufficient feedback from peers. While
working on projects or task given by manager, teams needs to communicate effectively with
each other and share strengths, knowledge, ideas and weaknesses with each other. For
communicating with range of people at university and workplace communication skills is
needed. One has to make sure that they are using communication skills effectively, student need
to understand how to face people who are aggressive and how to behave and talk with the
teammate who can be sensitive (Portuguez Castro and Gómez Zermeño, 2020). During the time

of placement at big companies, interviewer will ask to have conversation in English only.
Student will find communication skills very helpful at the time of giving interview. So, it is very
much important to learn how to communicate effectively with each other (Mistry and Gorman,

As people nowadays are focusing on development of their skills, it is very important to
include one of the best skill while talking about transferable skills that is collaboration skills.
During the university journey, collaboration skills is developed by students and it is very
important in the workplace as well. As every company foster a culture of competition and
independence rather than one of collaboration. So, it is essential to enhance collaboration skills
so that it would be beneficial for success. Nowadays, future employers will need to quickly adapt
to a culture of teamwork and collaboration. While doing work on projects and task given by
people every employee need to collaborate with each other. By using number of new
technologies such as online videoconferencing, emails, zoom meetings and slack employees are
improving collaboration between team member (Sansone and et.al., 2020).
Thinking creatively is of great importance as it helps student to think out of the box and
create something unique while presenting themselves. During the academic study, student needs
to be very creative in their approach. In today's era or you can say in rapidly changing world,
employers need employees who can easily solve problems and critical evaluate situation. So, for
them they require good leaders and managers having creative thinking skills (Mataniari and et.al.
2020). As people know that creativity is all about discovering new connections in order to create
something new while working on projects. It has been said that if people want to increase
confidence and enable children to be successful, they must nourish and cherish their creativity
level. Organisation are hiring those people who want to learn more about different ways of
thinking and finding new methods to tasks completion and issues. The organisation are hiring
leaders, employees or managers with creative thinking and problem solving skills. During the
academic journey, student learn to develop their creative thinking skills and problem solving
skills, while working on some assignment such as online presentation, group-work, assessments
etc. working on such projects or task in a team will help them improve and develop creative
thinking skills because all teammates share their ideas and knowledge with each other
(Prelipcean and Bejinaru, 2018). With the help of creative thinking, student can easily
understand the world in a better manner. By using this skill, students can easily come up with

answers that might provide the rest of the world a new perspective. This skill is transferable
because by using creative thinking skill professionals can easily work on some creative task and
projects at workplace. Organization are hiring those people who is having problem solving skills
even managers requires to have those people who want to improve knowledge in the future from
different areas (Chaya and Inpin, 2020).
Talking about decision-making, this skill is also transferable in nature because during
academic journey, every student learn how to make decisions within the given time. Whenever a
student is able to make their own decision they find themselves at a good position and title
themselves as a good decision makers. Enhancing decision-making skills will student a lot in
their future career and will not have to depend on other teammates while working on projects
(Peng and et.al., 2021).
Speaking about another skill which is developed by student at university is positive
attitude towards work, as the world is full of negative factors around student, so it is very much
essential for them to win hearts with a positive approach. During the interview, every interviewer
will go through CV of candidate and look for someone who drives with a positive attitude. This
skill is very much important for students and professional both as it helps in maintaining their
friendly and safe environment at workplace. While enhancing positive attitude towards work and
learning, one needs to consider some key areas that will support them develop a positive attitude
which includes patient, confident, cooperative and sense of humour (Bala Swamy and Imdadul
Haque, 2020).
