Introduction
There are many differences between school education and higher education. In higher education,
one has to be responsible for every aspect of his life and learn to make better decisions in order
to be successful. In this report, self-reflection or opinions have been provided about the
distinction between the two education systems. Both the educations systems play a major role in
the life of a student; however, it is higher education when an individual learns more about the
necessary aspects of life. In this assignment, proper analysis of critical reading and thinking
skills is done. Gibbs cycle is a model that helps in preparing a reflective report; this model has
been used in a particular section within the assignment.

The distinction between learning in the School environment and Higher Education
The step of moving from school education to high education is one of the major transitions that
take place in the life of a student (Entwistle and Ramsden, 2015). There is a huge difference
between school education and higher education in terms of the approach that is followed by the
two systems. In school, I was highly dependent upon my teachers and then on my parents at
home, most of the time they took decisions for me and guided me to perform tasks. In higher
education, everything changes because life becomes faster and there are immense work and
activities to do. There is a huge demand for discipline and time management skills while
pursuing higher education (Beare et al., 2018). As I entered higher education, I started planning
for my future, subject or particular specialization that I want to do. Professors in higher
education are much less concerned about how you use your time; they concentrate on discussing
subjects and completing syllabus (Savery, 2015). They do not take much personal involvement
with each student rather suggests ideas for overall improvement.
Engagement with critical reading and thinking
In school, there was not much requirement of critical reading and thinking; however, as I moved
to higher education I was required to accomplish a lot of assignments and projects that required
analysis and evaluation of several topics and complex subjects. I have done several assignments,
using complex models and theories to analyze and determine solutions and recommendations.
This highly required critical analysis and thinking capabilities to be able to appropriately
complete those projects and score good marks during higher education. While doing this I
realized that I have to improve myself and work on developing skills in order to create valuable
projects and assignments. This required reading a lot of books, documents, journals on different
topics and online magazines.
I pursued this activity for a few months every day in order to increase the ability to properly
understand, analyze and prepare better reports. The first assignment that I created in higher
education was Corporate Strategy that required finding answers about how an organization could
identify its corporate issues and in addition find solutions for it. For this, I referred to an article
named “The integration of human resource management and corporate strategy” by Brewster

education is that the learning process is not just restricted to classrooms and books, rather the

things and subjects and every day has its own importance. The effort and time spent studying
hard during that period are helping me today to move towards my dreams. One thing that I wish I
could have changed or improved is that I could have taken out more amount of time from my
daily schedule to travel more and spend a high proportion of time with my friends.
