Introduction
During the time of running this assessment, I was able to understand myself about the higher
education skills and competencies. I have found many higher education skills which can be
developed easily as compared to other skills and competencies. I have found that there is having
huge importance of the self-managed study through reading and writing which helps not only in
enhancing the knowledge but also boosting up the self-confidence. At the starting, I was very
nervous and unconfident towards my course and study. But after doing the higher education
skills and competencies assessment, I found myself more confident, knowledge and also can
easily able to do work within the team. With the conduction of the VW emission scandal
assessment, I can talk with the people without any hesitation and also working very effectively
within the assessment team. I was playing the role of the Journalist. I have also enhanced my
reading and writing skills by doing practice by making use of the Belbin and history books in an
effective manner. With my reading and writing practices by using history books, I have not
enhanced my reading and writing skills. Through the team VW emission activity, I have also
learned how to work well with others but also faced problems during the group exercises like
culture and language differences. I will explain the number of skills and competencies below
which has been developed during this assessment.

1. The distinction between learning in the School environment and Higher Education:
There is having a huge difference in the learning methods of the school and higher education
environment. In higher education, I found that there is a huge need to accomplish the self-
managed study for enhancing the higher education skills and competencies dramatically.
Whereas in the school, there is having limited study material for the study and the teachers used
to guide us for what to read, write and learn (Jackson and Wilton, 2016). I found that reflective
learning plays a very important role in developing an effective learning of higher education
skills. The learning within the school environment is different from higher education due to the
difference of the learning styles. Within the higher education, there are taken use of the various
learning styles like Kinaesthetic, visual and audio for their skills and competencies in an
effective manner.
2. Engagement with critical reading and thinking:
I found that the effective reading, writing, and thinking helps in building the self-confidence,
knowledge and also help it work well in the team. In my experience, I think the effective
communication skills and knowledge plays a very role for performing well and also cooperating
well within the team for achieving the target objective of the reflective learning (Ramazani and
Jergeas, 2015). Due to the difference in the culture and language, I was facing problems in doing
better communication with my colleagues as a team. I have enhanced my reading skills about
enhancing team communication by reading the theory of Belbin and leadership theories
effectively. The team was mainly created for presenting the recent scandal of the Volkswagens
Emission. For the enhancement of self-confidence, communication, and corporation, there is the
creation of presenting the VW emission activity so that every student can be able to enhance
their reading and writing skills through doing the reflective learning (Cebrián and Junyent,
2015).
3. The ability to locate, collect and record appropriate information using a range of
academic resources:
This VW emission team activity helped me all team members to understand how to solve the all
conflicts and react after the involvement of the people in the specific matter (Furió, et. al., 2015).

By participating in the VW emission activity, every team member was playing a specific role
where I was playing as a journalist role. For doing this team activity, there is a huge need to do
the effective reading and researching for collecting the authentic information for the team in an
efficient manner. So, for gathering the reliable information, I have to need to go through the deep
learning by considering the several books from the libraries so that it can help in enhancing the
speed of the reading effectively. The main task of the team to effective finds and presents the
overall VW emission scandal which has been taken place in the global competitive market (Alt,
2015). I have found that the books from the libraries help in finding out the news related to VW
emission scandal are showing the right things which have been occurred.

4.
Evaluation of the reliability of information:
I found that I have to do huge effective research and study for doing the role of the journalist in
the VW emission scandal activity (Coiro, 2017). The effective reading and writing play an
important role in for doing the deep research so that I can effectively get the reliable information.
I found difficulty in identifying and selecting the quality materials for doing the VW emission
project. So, I have decided to enhance my reading and writing skills by doing more reading and
resolving all the questions of the project myself. I also found that effective reading not only helps
in enhancing knowledge but also improves the vocabulary in an excellent manner (Ramazani and
Jergeas, 2015). There is a huge need for the effective researching of the authentic data and news
for perfectly doing the project.
5. Reading skills:
Reading plays a very important role in effectively enhancing the academic writing of the person.
I have also identified that I am finding difficulties in doing academic writing in English because
my English is very weak (Shum, et. al., 2016). I have also made a habit of the reading history
books so that I can effectively improving my reading as well as academic writing skills in an
effective manner. The precise academic writing can be achieved by effectively improving the
reading skills. So, I have decided to enhance my reading skills for developing effective academic
writing such as personal, descriptive, analytical and evaluative. I have also observed reading
skills also helps in developing the effective vocabulary, use of punctuation, grammar, and
spelling (Ross, et. al., 2016).

6. Self-reflection:
I have observed that I have effectively learned as well as enhanced the reflective writing and
reading effectively. The writing also plays a very important role in successfully describing the
specific thing. As I compare my performance from starting of course and current situation, there
is having a huge difference in it (Silva and Cain, 2015). I have excellently developed higher
education skills and competencies through the enhancement of my reading and academic writing
speed. While doing the academic writing, there is a huge need to represent the report excellently
by using references, paraphrase, and quotations within the reflective academic writing (Shum, et.
al., 2016). I have improved my English reading and writing skills which have helped me capable
to choose appropriate study for doing deep research for the specific project.

education skill and competencies in a very successful manner. At the beginning of the
assessment, I was very nervous and unconfident as well as founding difficulties in understanding
the assessment. But through the reading and writing practices, I have not only improved my
English but also enhanced my reflective learning and academic writing (Chiu, et. al., 2015). This
assessment has hugely helped me to enhance my research, coordination with others for doing

Conclusion
From the above description, I can easily able to conclude that I am now able to very fast reading
which has helped in enhancing my English and academic writing skills in a very successful
manner. I can observe that I can more enhance my higher education skills and competencies
through continuing my reading habits and doing writing practices. This will help me to get better
results for the further terms and assessments of my higher education skills and competencies
courses. I need to more focus on the appropriate books and study materials from the libraries
and the internet so that I can able to gather all the important information about doing the specific
project effectively. The reading skills not only help in enhancing the English language but also
give opportunities to boost academic writing. In this assessment, I have worked in a team for
doing our VW emission scandal task in which I was playing the role of a journalist. This task
not only helped me to gain the skills for effective deep researching and cooperating in the team
for achieving the main objective of the task.
