INTRODUCTION
It is essential for students to prepare their reflective reports on regular basis so that they
will analyse their experience and their strengths and weaknesses for their academic learning.
There are various kinds of skills which are important to learn during higher education. The
following report covers essential skills required in higher education and the way to developing
these skills for improving own learning and performance.
MAIN BODY
Identify and demonstrate the skills of a higher education student
There are various kinds of academic skill which is required by a student to enhance their
performance and develop good opportunity for their professional life. According to me the
following higher education skills are important for me for my academic career as well as for my
professional career-
Academic writing skills- This skill will help a student to learn the techniques and
different ways to write academic reports (Safitri, 2018). This skill is one of the most important
skill for me to learn at higher education because it will help me to complete my projects and
assignments appropriately. Here, I have learned that the content which is chosen to write should
be precise and up to the point. The written content must answer the question which is asked.
Using proper references will help me to represent my report effectively because it proofs that the
report represents true and actual evidence of the content. This skill will not only help me in mu
academic career but it will also help me to develop my professional career. I can enhance this
skill by using guidance of my teachers regarding the structure and ways of writing academic
reports. I make sure that I should avoid long paragraphs in my academic writing style and use
precise content with proper structure. I will also focus on language and avoid grammatical errors
so that reader will understand the content well.
Team working skill- This is the skill which help a individual to learn the ways of
working within a team appropriately (Jamshed and Majeed, 2018). This skill is one of the most
important skill for higher education because is will help me to identify the behaviour and attitude
which should be followed by me to work within a team effectively. There are various situations
where students are required to perform within a team and this skill is also helpful while entering
the professional life. I have learned that it is essential for each team member to become

corporative and communicative while working within a team and must perform those task only
which comes under our expertise. This skill can be learn during higher education by taking
participation in group activities like drama, skit competition, group discussion, basketball
tournament and many others. Coordination is one of the best important element for this skill
which further reflect the effectiveness of whole team. According to me, I believe that a team
must have those team members which are having different skills and expertise so that each
member of the team will learn from other members about their way of doing work.
Presentation skill- It is also consider one of the most important skill for higher education
because it will help to analyse the way of presenting Power point presentation (Nofrion and et.
al., 2019). This skill is one of the most important and highest priority skill for me because after
my graduation I am targeting to become a assistant manager within a high reputed company. A
assistant manger is required to present the annual reports and daily basis reports of performance
of the company within meetings. For learning this skill, I suppose to ask my teacher about the
effective way of presentation to attract targeted audience. I have learned that presentation should
not include big paragraphs. The content in the presentation should be precise and attractive.
Using images, charts and graphs related to the topic will attract the audience attention. On the
other hand, I have also learnt that while presenting any report to a group should be confident and
keep eye contacting with the group.
Problem solving skill- It is also considered as one of the most important skill for higher
education. This is the skill where a individual learn the ways and techniques to mitigate any issue
and obstacle in their personal and professional life (Amalia, Sukestiyarno and Cahyono, 2021). I
will become more confident after gaining this skill during my academic career. I have learned
that understanding the issue is most important because if issue is not get understood clearly than
no individual can make any correct and appropriate decision to solve the issue. I also supposed to
solve various kinds of case studies related to business management and business environment
where a situation is given about corporate sector and few questions is mentioned at the bottom
which is related to case and we are supposed to solve those questions. I solve the questions and
ask my teacher whether I have made appropriate solution for the given problem or not.
Communication and IT skill- Communication skill is the ability to share information to
other in a good manner which is understood easily by others (Hardjati and Febrianita, 2019). On
the other hand, IT skill is those technical skills which is used to solve technical issues related to

computer, software and many others. According to me, these both skills are important for me to
learn at my academic career. It is essential for me to listen what other saying in communication
skill and talk straightly without any hesitation. It is also essential for me to learn non-verbal
communication where body language is used to share any information. It is essential for me to
communicate with more people to learn this skill and observe their ways of conveying message.
IT skill can be learned through coaching techniques.
CONCLUSION
From the above information it is concluded that there are various skill which is important
to learn during higher education like team working skill, communication skill, presentation skill
and many other skills. It is essential for a student to learn these skills appropriately during their
higher education because this is the last stage where they got opportunity to learn these skills,
after this they are going to start their professional life where they are supposed to implement
these skills.
