Introduction
Enrolling oneself into a university degree is associated with the prime motive of acquiring
higher educational norms and capabilities. The aim of this study is associated with the
identification of the major reasons that would promote an individual to opt for a college
degree or university degree. The scope, however, is associated with a study plan characterised
by short and long-term goals.
Main body
For an individual to study for a college degree, there would be multiple reasons. Some of the
reasons would be as the following.
First, the major and foremost reason includes the attainment of the relevant education by an
individual. The sole reason for acquiring choice based higher education includes the
adhering to the personal choice of practice shortly and increasing probability of job
satisfaction (Kruss et al., 2015).
Second, the reason includes availing extensive vocational training in multiple organisations to
increase employability in major segments. However, these reasons are limited to first-year
students as vocational training essentially increases the weight of one’ s CV coupled with
providing skill development to the individual students.
Third, the reason includes the acquisition of basic general education. It would be
characterised by the acquisition of normal degree and medium quality education. However,
such a reason would not be valid for ambitious students that house the aim of extensive
growth in the professional segment within short tenure of time.
Fourth, the reason includes availing better jobs shortly. A good college degree essentially
increases the probability of an individual to land a high paying job with a multinational
organisation (Frey and Osborne, 2017). Additionally, a degree from a reputed college and
higher nature of degree enables an individual to acquire a foreign working visa. However, the
limiting factor in this segment includes the variations in the knowledge levels associated with
a particular degree.
Fifth, reasons include learning about aspects that interest an individual. Based on the research
carried out by the Cooperative Institutional Research Program, about 74% of first-year

students acknowledged the fact that the interest-based learning is the prime driver behind
their enrolling in the college degrees (Holdaway and Kelloway, 1987).
Sixth, reasons for studying a college degree include the prospect of making more money
while developing a base for the projection of their ideas and innovative products in the long
run. The reason for the same would be the societal prejudice that education and capability
are directly proportional to the extent of qualification of an individual (Yang and Brown,
2015). As a result, this would enable individuals to make more money while reducing the
aspect of copyright infringement and rejection due to qualification and interference issues.
A college degree would enable the development of multiple core academic skills. It could be
discussed through different processes by which different aspects of a student can be improved
properly. First, a college or university degree would improve the time management skill of an
individual. It would be characterised by effective note taking abilities in a precise and
concise manner. This skill would be developed as students would be required to multitask
during college lectures and practical and writing everything, down would not be possible in
the short time available (Uccelli et al., 2015). In the professional segment, note taking would
enable the identification of critical points in a proposal or draft or even a contract that might
limit the extent of damage due to any number of reasons.
Second, students would develop extensive communication skills if they pursue a college
degree. It would be characterised by drastic development in academic writing and
paraphrasing skills. The importance of the mentioned skills includes the active use of the
mentioned skills during projects and tasks so provided during the academic tenure (Van Laar
et al., 2015). However, during the professional phrase, the skill of paraphrasing would be
beneficial for those individuals that would work in the copyright infringement department of
a company or government office.
Third, students would develop problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills through the
enrolment of a college degree. It would be characterised by the development of different
forms of learning styles like visual, auditory, kinaesthetic as well as through traditional
method. The importance of the same could be discussed in two domains. First, in the domain
of academics, this would enable a student to learn different modules by developing a personal
form of learning style based on the SWOT analysis conducted on oneself. In the segment of
professional tenure, the skill so attained in this aspect would complement the path followed

by an individual in solving a problem. For example, critical thinking would complement an
individual for the job role of an analyst that is in huge demand in the current market.
Based on the plan provided in the appendix, it could be inferred that the all the mentioned
skills and knowledge has been taken into consideration for the development of attributes.
Additionally, the tenure so developed in the plan would be an overlapping one. This means
that multiple goals would be catered to during the study plan. However, specific quantum of
hours would be taken into consideration for the study plan. Additionally, to maintain the
dynamicity of the plan, not fixed slots would be provided to the study plan. The only
limitation in the study plan would be segment of the attribute. This would be because; all the
mentioned attribute would be based on specific available resources and might be altered
minutely based on situations.
(Refer to Appendix 1)
Conclusion
Post the analysis of the reasons for attaining a college, degree; it could be concluded that
overall, the sole motive would be making money. This would be because money drives the
buying power of an individual along with social status in the end. Additionally, it could be
concluded that the optimum skill that could be developed through college education would be
analytical skills as in every professional segment analytics is the prime driver.
