INTRODUCTION
Management is said to be one of the essential department that provides the basic facilities
to an organization so that they can work properly (Goodwin and Wright, 2014). Thus,
management can be stated as an administration that set strategies and plans for a company with
coordination of employees and superiors as well. In order to get proper outcomes they use
various tools and techniques which are according to the latest trends. Hilton hotel is one of the
renowned companies in United Kingdom that deals in hospitality service. In this report,
comparison of different learning styles is mentioned along with leadership characteristics.
Utilization of best communication medium is also included in this report so that they can convey
their message to employees in an effective manner.
TASK 1
1.1 Comparison of different management styles
Management is considered as an important element that maintains the working of an
organization in a systematic manner. Management assists the company in achieving their goals
and objectives in limited period of time with the help of resources that are available to them.
Study shows that many companies adopt different learning styles in order to get
maximum benefits. Likewise Hilton hotel has also adopted some of the management styles so
that they can gain maximum benefits (Schermerhorn and et. al., 2014). In this managers and
leaders plays an important role and they are the one who decides what kind of management
styles Company should implement only after evaluating the behavior of their employees. Some
of the management styles are given below:
Autocratic Style: This said to be the most rigid type of management style in which
managers doesn’t concern their subordinates before making any decisions. As a result a
deflection in opinions can be seen amongst individuals. Due to this the skilled and
knowledgeable person lacks behind and it creates a chaos between superiors and individual itself.
Advantages: The biggest advantage of this is that the company gets a better results in
terms of profit thus, it is said to be aggressive kind of management style.
Disadvantages: The person who follows this kind of approach always remains in the fear
of losing authority.
Democratic: This kind of management style is most common and is adopted by most of
the organization and Hilton hotel is one of them. Under this managers tries to concern the

thoughts all the employees and for this they conduct meetings and seminars where workers can
give their views and share thoughts as well.
Advantages: It creates a sense of belongingness towards the company and group as well.
Gives an equal opportunity to participate in decision making or any other activities.
Disadvantages: The biggest drawback of this is that it can take more time in formulating
the strategies and process.
Laissez Faire: Under this kind of management style company provides guidance when it
is needed the most (Laudon and Laudon, 2015). Here employees feel free to express their views
and thoughts so that managers can implement them in their business operations.
Advantages: In this the main focus is on to function productively so that the company
can gain maximum benefits.
Disadvantages: Sometimes group may fail in attaining the goals and objectives this may
leads to low performance.
Hilton hotel is using active management style in which the employees feel free from any
pressure. With the help of this they are able to participate in decision making where workers give
innovative ideas.
1.2 Leadership characteristics
There are many people who are born leaders and to become more superior amongst them
they acquire different characteristics which cannot be similar with one another (January and et.
al., 2014).
Interpersonal Skills: This is determined as one of the factor that is affected by society
also. Managers of Hilton Hotel are having good relation with other companies and as a result
they are able to maintain their superior position in market area for longer period of time. For
example: Superior of this company is having good relation with Stakeholders and as a result they
are able to provide excellent services to their clients.
Communication Skills: To work properly it is necessary to have two way conversations
so that managers and leaders can convey their message appropriately to their subordinates and
customers as well. For example: Hilton Hotel has a separate department for customer service,
they provide related information through telephones, emails etc.
Creative Skills: This is another trait that makes an individual unique from others thus,
managers should posses this quality so that they can make their company different from others so
are in the same field of work. For example: Managers of Hilton Hotel are using their innovative
ideas in providing better services and facilities to their customers (Hill, Jones and Schilling,
2014).

they shares a common beliefs and values so as to fulfill firm’s needs. Hilton Hotel is using
various new tools and techniques in order to attract more and more customers towards their
organization. They are using different components and with the help of these making alterations
accordingly. Hilton hotel is considered as leading global hotel which is situated all over the

some modifications accordingly
Demographic: Currently the Hilton Hotel is situated in around all over the world and has
approximately 3,897 hotels in 91 countries. Along with this they have established luxury hotels
and resorts.
Economic: Company is stated in number 38 in terms of money making which is a good
position throughout the globe. Apart from this Hilton Hotel is earning large amount of money
from its chains like Waldorf Astoria hotel and resort.
Legislative: To run a business in a proper manner it is mandatory that organization
follow all the rules and regulations formulated by the government in order to maintain peace.
Hilton hotel is following all the norms and as a result it is now one of the leading industries in
hospitality (Monczka and et. al., 2015).

2.1 Assessment of own management skills and performance

Management Skills A person can be identified with great management skills when
he/she is given the task in difficult situation. For example: Once our
class had conducted a play but it was not done properly I gave them
innovative ideas so that they can manage the operation properly.
Leadership skills Once I our team was lacking behind in football so, I lead the team
from front and as a result we won the match. Other than this, I
motivated the team in such a way that it boosted their morale.
Interpersonal Skills Exchange of thoughts is important in order to gain knowledge and
skills. Seminars and workshops helped me in interacting with other
people and from there I get to know about the perspective of
different culture in some situations.
Communication Sills As communication is the basic factor for the person who is working
in the field of hospitality, for example: I have to meet with a large
number of people so as to convinced them about why tourist must
choose their hotel in context with others. Thus, it is adding value in
my performance.

he/she can enhance my existing skills and knowledge (Kotler, 2015). A systematic approach will
act as a step taken forward in order to increase my own potential. Thus, following are certain
steps which will make it clearer:
Specific: The objectives which are set must be specific so that the person can know whether the
goal is achievable or not.
Measurable: Goals which are to be should be measurable and based on that hypothesis can be
made
Attainable: Before setting a target the person should make sure that the objective can be
achieved by using all the resources or not.
Relevant: under this, the person should make sure if the outcomes which will come after getting
the goal is worth it or whether it give better outcomes.
Time bounded: This is the last step that an individual must consider so that he/she doesn’t waste
their time in one objective. This will help them to know about the attaining the target on specific
time period.

3.1 Lead and motivate a team to achieve goal and objectives
As per the given scenario, I am operational manager of a hotel and the company is facing
crises in terms of economy because of which management is not been able to provide sufficient
amount of facilities to its employees (Block, 2016). Due to this their payments are in hold so, in
order to increase the sales and productivity it is important for me to keep my employees
motivated so that they can provide best quality services to their customers. Initially it will take

time but after a period of time this will provide them maximum profits. Some of the elements I
will use in order to get better outcomes and they are as follows:
Team building: this is the basic step which I will take so as to complete my task in a
proper manner. To get back the previous position it is essential that we make a strong team that
will help the company in achieving the set targets and goals.
Motivation: Encouraging on a regular basis will help the organization in getting their
status back. Apart from this, it will raise the morale of individual and as a result they will give
their best in attaining the targets.
3.2 Justify managerial decision in order to support goals or objectives
In organization managers plays an important role in conducting the business operation in
an effective manner (Joey and Yazdanifard, 2015). As I am the operational manager so it is my
prime duty to make proper decision that will assist the organization in achieving the objectives.
Some of the factors should be kept in mind before doing the same and they are as follows:
Strategic Planning: To run a business in a proper manner it is essential that the company
has an appropriate plan which they can follow so as to achieve the goals and objective on limited
time period. For this, I will analyze the past experience which the company had faced so that the
problems can be eliminated and cannot be repeated again in future proceedings.
Relationship building: A healthy relation is maintained in an organization if managers
and leaders communicate with each subordinate properly. Apart from this, I will conduct
meetings and seminars where employees will feel free in expressing their views and innovative
ideas.

4.1 Analyze how managerial and personal skill will develop career
As per the current scenario travel and tourism is providing many job opportunities and by
working in same field I can attain superior position. There are some factors on which I have to
work in order to develop my career for the same (Kacperczyk, NIEUWERBURGH and
Veldkamp, 2014). Therefore, to sustain the superior place at workplace some of the skills will
help me out like
Communication Skills: As the sector deals with many people at the same time so it is
mandatory to now the basic language by which an individual can communicate with tourist.
Therefore, I have a good command over language this is enabling me in convincing a large
number of tourists.
Leadership: This kind of approach helps a person in leading the team from front and
assist an individual in attaining the superior position. Thus, I have completed the first part of my

training programs where I have learned some of the basic skills of how to lead a squad in
difficult situations.
Time management Skill: To get successful in future it is important that the entire task is
performed in time sphere. This is the field where I lack behind and to improve the same I am
taking proper classes where I can learn about the time management skills and by doing so it will
add value in my personality (Goodwin and Wright, 2014).
4.2 Review of career and personal development needs
Not every person is perfect there are some pros and cons which an individual would
determine so as to improve their knowledge. In order to achieve superior position, there are some
of the fields on which I have to work on and these points are given below:
