a. What is the first step Sherry should take? What questions should she ask Dr. Ross?
The first step of Sherry should be to monitor the workforce and check whether the paper-
based system had been effective or not. If not, then why and how replacing with the electronic
medical record system could resolve the issues and favor the data collection procedures. She
must clarify with Dr. Ross about how effective the electronic medical record system could be to
overcome the issues faced earlier with the paper-based system (Bowman, 2013).
b. How can Sherry decide what training modes will be effective for the physicians and
staff?
Sherry should enable training models that could be managed electronically for improving
the skills and knowledge of the physicians and staffs. She must bring the concepts of big data for
forecasting the big data industry and allow the staffs to know how to use the tools required for
clinical support and management of at-risk patient population. The Internet of Things could be
effective along with the artificial intelligence for developing opportunities and keep the
operational costs under control too (Abdekhoda et al., 2014).
c. What can Sherry do to change Betty’s attitude about use of tablet computers in the exam
rooms?
To change the attitudes and behaviors of Betty Rose, it would be important for Sherry to
discuss with Betty about the benefits of using the tablet computers. Sherry must also demonstrate
about how the negative outcomes of managing paper based record system could be overcome by
using the new electronic medical record system.

d. What resources can Sherry suggest for Dr. Ross and the office staff to improve their
comfort level with tablet computers?
Sherry could suggest health records of the patients, databases where the necessary data
and information of the patients should be stored along with both financial and human resources.
Mobile technologies and emails could be used as effective resources for communicating
messages and information about the health of patients (Bowman, 2013). The training sessions
could be beneficial as well for making the staffs and physicians accustomed with the usage of
tablet computers and manage their best of efforts to handle the electronic medical record system
with ease.
e. After the system was implemented, Dr. Ross noticed appointment times became longer.
He is worried about this. What can Sherry tell him to reassure him this is a temporary
event?
The concerns of Dr. Ross are normal, though it is important to ensure that the
appointment times are reduced. Sherry could assure him that this would be a temporary thing and
soon should be resolved, because it is new and would take some time for everyone to get
accustomed with it. She also must assure him that within few days, the system would maintain
the records quite easily and the requirements of Meaningful Use legislation would be met too
(Abdekhoda et al., 2014).
