Introduction
Choosing a career goal is the first step of developing a academic and professional
career (Davidson, Østerlund & Flaherty, 2015). The purpose of this report is to discuss 2
chosen career path from health information management career set and to discuss those
career path. In discussion the roles and responsibilities, interconnection and further
development scope of the chosen career path will be also explained.
Data Analyst as Professional Career
A Data Informatics Analyst produces data sets from various complex and critical
reports of diverse subject matters. Data analyst is one of the pillars of the information
processing and analytics system of a healthcare organization that includes data analysis of
finance, Clinical report, human resource data, business intelligence and others. A data
analysis should have the ability to properly apply both the knowledge of technical design and
business operation in order to develop business informatics based solution, database system,
interface, custom programming, web-related applications, database architecture and others.
The major skills that a data analyst needs to develop are the skills of logical reasoning,
problem solving, and creative thinking. The major components of a data analyst’s operation
is learning new concepts, applications, software effectively and comfortably interact with
individuals/groups at various organizational levels (Gadd et al., 2016). Therefore,
communication skill in both written and verbal is essential for collaborative approach.
Furthermore, considering the working procedures of a data analyst it has to be mentioned that
a Data Informatics Analyst must has a good understanding and experience in Microsoft SQL
Server and Microsoft SQL Server.
Project Manager of Clinical Informatics

Project Manager of Clinical Informatics is an emerging career in healthcare
informatics industry. The role of a project manager of Clinical Informatics is to help the
healthcare service provider organisations to improve their care processes through executing
software base project management procedures. For this a project manager of Clinical
Informatics has to analyse the client needs in order to create clinical workflows for the clients
that include interfacing ancillary support systems such as laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and
others. A Project Manager of Clinical Informatics must have the ability to effectively
develop strategies tailored to each organization while providing guidance throughout the
implementation of projects in client organisations. Project Manager of Clinical Informatics
also have to perform project management documentation while working with various subject
matter experts using appropriate terminologies and code sets (Banerjee et al., 2015). Project
Manager of Clinical Informatics should have the ability to present information strongly and
evidently. In this case, experience in in MMIS or other healthcare claims systems will be very
helpful. Project Manager of Clinical Informatics must have deep technical knowledge in
Medicaid or Healthcare Delivery Systems, Project Management Tools, SharePoint Visio,
PowerPoint, Word, Access and Excel
Conclusion
Both Data Informatics Analyst and Project Manager of Clinical Informatics are strong
career path in healthcare information management industry, where Data Informatics Analyst
is already a popular career path and Project Manager of Clinical Informatics is emerging one.
Both of these career paths have prospect in further career development up to directorial level.
