My interest in this negotiation is to reach out to my partners to agree on what to do regarding the
issues in the hospital. I am interested in seeing my partners agree with me that there is a need for
the improvement of the resources in the hospital especially the aged people bed facilities. I am
interested in seeing my partners agree with me on the reduction of the cost of the operation
within the hospital for better performance. Besides issues related to the professional roles, my
interest is to see the additional personnel to serve the increasing population of aged people in a
better way.
Hinchcliff Hospital Action Group does not agree with the changes that the CEO wants to
make in the hospital. Instead, they need the accident and emergency department to remain open
even if not for 24 hours. They need local GPs to be approached to see if they can operate after-
hours emergency service. They do not want money to be spent on new aged beds facilities but
instead the establishment of the community health center for the promotion of the wellness
programs within the town. They also need the replacement of the head of the Local Health
District with another person to be chosen by the community.
I would like to ask my partner if they can change their vision considering that there are
some financial consequences if we do not terminate department of the emergencies and
accidents. Since most of the people in the community are aging, I would ask them if it is their

interest to improve the aged people facilities in the hospital. I want to ask them if they may
allow me to discuss and explain the negative impacts if we completely choose their interests.
On issues regarding the termination of department of the emergencies and accidents, I
would propose an operation of the department once in a while depending on the number of the
emergency cases in the community. I will make sure we agree on a minimal amount of time
possible for the operation of the department to avoid the expensive in operation. On the other
hand, I would request them if we could improve the aged facilities in the hospital to cater to the
increasing number of aged people in the community. I think this will be possible after the
reduced expensive operation of A/E department.
I
will consider using the convincing criteria to my partners especially where there are
several possible options. Besides, I will focus much on proposing the options that will reduce the
expensive activities in the hospital. I will try to balance the options available to make sure that at
least each party is satisfied.

I might find some interpersonal issues especially in agreeing on the number of hours the
accident and emergency department should be operated. Some people will have a different
perspective on this but I will try to convince them for the minimal time possible if at all they do
not need its closure. I will try to be neutral in this meeting just to make the negotiation
productive. On the other hand, I will try as much as possible to convince the partners on the
importance of making some changes like improvement of the aged facilities in the hospital
considering the growing number of aged people.
My Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement will be demand for the financial support
from the Hinchcliff Hospital Action Group if at all they do not agree with my decisions.
If at all they decide that the closure of A/E department is not possible, I will accept this
under one condition of financial support for the hospital. The fact that the hospital in undergoing
the financial crisis I would request for the financial support from the Group on an agreement
basis to make sure that all activities are operated as they need.
