History is something which has fascinated me since the time I first got acquainted with the
subject myself. This is because history tells the readers about the things of the past. I always
feel intrigued in knowing about the events which have taken place in Earth. As a result, I can
say that I always feel interested in knowing about the subjects of the past as well as the
various civilizations which have developed in the countries in the past. To know more about
this, In visited the National Museum to examine the various kinds of coins available for the
audiences to see. This is what this reflective essay will talk about.
The purpose of this essay is to talk about the ancient coins that were available in
the ancient civilizations of India.
The coins that I went to check out at the National Museum were the coins belonging
to the ancient Gupta Dynasty of India. I feel that the experts are true when they state the fact
that the coins are a great way of knowing about a particular dynasty and the reign of that

dynasty in the country of India. In this case too, I found that the coins of the Gupta Dynasty
indeed tells the audience a lot about the type of dynasty it was back then and also about the
type of rulers the Gupta Dynasty were.
From the coins which I came across belonging to the Gupta Dynasty, I can tell that
they indeed tells the audience a lot about that particular dynasty and its rulers as well. Firstly,
I got to know that the Gupta Dynasty was one of the most powerful dynasties to have ever
ruled the country of India. They were known to issue the gold coins mostly, but at times, they
would also issue silver coins to the people of their kingdom. The coins tells the readers about
the various practices that were indulged in by the rulers of the Gupta Dynasty. These included
the images of the horse sacrifice or the Ashvamedha as well as the rulers in their various
activities such as Kumaragupta I killing a lion while riding an elephant as well as the images
of the various rulers of the Dynasty and the activities which were performed by these rulers in
their kingdom. All these coins have helped me to gain significant knowledge about the Gupta
Empire and the various activities which they indulge themselves in.
I for myself felt that the artefact is considered to be important because the coins
introduced during these period were instrumental in introducing the coinage system in the
medieval period. This is because of the fact that the coins helped a method to conduct trade
during the medieval period. In addition to this, the coins also helped in the spread of the
religion itself. This is because these coins depicted various kinds of religious practices that
were depicted on these coins. From this statement, it can be said that the coins of the Gupta
Dynasty helped ton spread the religion of Hinduism in the country and also helped in the
setting of various religious practices in the other countries of the world itself. That is why, it
is being said that the artefacts are linked to the medieval period of the world itself.
