INTRODUCTION
Management operations is a process through which organizations convert their input into
final output in order to create value. The main goal of this concept is to carry out the business
activity in most efficient manner so that satisfaction level of distinct customers can be
maximized (Anghileri and et. al 2012). Under this system, management take long and short term
judgments for variety of departments in the work place in order to maximize the capacity of
employees to contribute their full efforts in growth of organization. H&M is a part of fashion
industry which is giving its services from a long time. There is a close completion in this sector
and hence it is required that proper management is done so that the competitive advantage can be
achieved. The following report will discuss how various leadership is applied in the referred
organization along with the approaches of operations management.

P3 Application of situational leadership, systems leadership and contingency
Leadership is a quality of an individual to lead and direct people to work in a particular
manner. A major role is played by this body as it is responsible to implement a common vision
for the work force as it helps in reducing the gap between actual and desired results (Bainton and
et. al., 2011). There are a number of theories and models of leadership which are applied by
leader of H&M in order to get the desired results. Some of them are discussed below:
Situational leadership – It is the most commonly used theory of leadership in present
commercial scenario as business surroundings are dynamic in nature and hence demand
challenging lenders to take the responsibility to deal with various changes that place on a regular
basis. It is important that a healthy connection is maintain among the employee and employer as
it facilitates change in the business world and avoid rigidity. Leaders as per the situation make
change in their leading style as it helps in avoiding disturbances and conflicts that may arise at
the work place (Chen, Wu and Fu, 2012). The requisites of different conditions are properly
communicated in the enterprise as it is an important need to deal with change that might take
place in a particular situation. It shows that the leader must have the adaptive skills so that he can
deals with the variety of situations that he come across in the work place.
System Approach in Leadership – In order to create a high competitive working
environment it is required that a particular constant system should be followed so that uniformity

in the working environment can be maintained. This model of leadership states that in an
enterprise leaders has to use system approach so that the targets can be achieved and hence
deviations can be reduced in final results (Goor, Kelman and Tilmant, 2010J).
Contingency leadership – This is another approach of leadership which has some
common factors of situational leadership too. According to the current situation and requirement
of different task that needs to be performed, leaders adopt a particular style of leading people. As
per this theory no common style can be applied to different situations and hence leader need to
be contingent so that he can bring out the best outcomes using innovative styles. It is believed
that if a leader instead of being rigid is adaptive to the circumstances than leader can bring the
most effective outcomes. As per the maturity of employees, the person leading a particular group
adopts the same level of leadership traits as this way people are motivated more and can be
influenced to behave and work in a particular manner. For the referred enterprise, it is important
that leaders match their style of leading with their followers and hence desired results will be
achieved. The most important requirement according to this model of leadership is that there
should be effective relation among employees and employers as it helps in developing effective
structure of work force. This assist in reducing the gap between the expectations of work force
and the requirements of management (ohri, Salvi and Filipi, 2011).
The above models and theories show that if a leader is successful in implementing
different leadership styles at the work place than most of the conflicts can be avoided and desired
outcomes can be achieved.
P4 Approaches to operations management and the role that leaders and managers play
In order to receive the desired objectives, management needs to use the different
approaches so that the desired outcomes can be achieved. These approaches help H&M in
establishing a better working conditions where there are less wastage and resources are used to
their full capacity. Some of the most common used techniques are as follows:
Principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) – It is defined as a system in which
quality is given maximum attention so that customer satisfaction can be raised to the maximum
level. Planning is done in advance so that the present standards of production can be raised and
duplication of work is avoided. Different departments are provided with proper training so that
their efficiency level is raised and hence overall cost of operations is reduced. Principles that are

followed under this concept are maintenance of effective leadership, focusing on customer and

Just-in-Time Inventory – This is the another approach through which the operations are managed
in the referred organisation. According to this approach the profit can be maximised by reducing
the wastage through avoiding excess and deficit situation in the maintenance of stock. When the
available stock is high than this leads to addition in cost of saving and on the other hand in case
of deficit the loss may occur due to non availability of goods. Hence this approach helps in
reaching to the desired level of production so that no potential market is lost and hence the profit
is earned to the maximum possible level. As the refereed enterprise deals in fashion products by
eliminating excess of quantity company can compete with the latest trends (Nong and et. al.,
2013).
P6 Organisation factors impacting upon operational management
There are a number of factors that has their direct and indirect impact on the operation
management of the H&. these factors can not be avoided and the administration needs to
consider them while planning their operations for a particular time period. Some of the most
common factors that need to be considered are as follows:
Social factors – there are certain social aspects which has their direct impact on the
operations management system. It has to be ensured that equality is maintained and everyone is
provided with same opportunity to develop. This add training cost to the firm hence leading to
fall in the actual profit that can be earned.
Health and safety law – according to this factor the the organisation is bound to
maintain the required level of safety of different employees even if cost much to the enterprise. It
therefore effect the operations management as they have to ensue that the safety of employees is
maintain at priority even if it is effecting the capacity to earn more.
CSR – It is the corporate social responsibility of the organisation which needs to be
fulfilled in order to maintain its survival in the market. There are certain aspects which has to be
fulfilled such as maintenance of full discloser which has a b\negative impact on the growth of
business has a direct influence on the management of operations (Liu, and et.al., 2011). In order
to display all the information operations needs to be clear which may reduce the capacity of firm

organisation goodwill hence gives a long term effect on the image of the firm.
Culture – this is another factor that has its influence on the operations management
department. Before implementing any idea the culture of the work force need to be analysed as it
will help in taking the best decision which can be widely accepted by the employees and hence
the production can be raised (Kazda and Caves, 2010).
CONCLUSION
From the above report this has been summarised that in order to maximise the present
scale of efficiency H&M needs to adopt the operations management systems so that it can reduce
the total cost of operations. Leaders and mangers are two different terms that helps in the
development of enterprise and perform their own role. A number of theories and models were
discussed which shows that how according to the current need the desired objectives can be
achieved supported with cost efficiency. Different approaches to quality were also discussed
which shows how through implementing them a better working conditions can be established.
