EAU HND Business: Research Proposal on Employee Turnover in Aviation

This research proposal investigates the high employee turnover rate in the aviation industry, a significant challenge for human resource management. The study aims to identify the key issues contributing to this turnover by examining employee and management perspectives, alongside secondary data from reports and journal articles. The research employs a deductive approach, utilizing both primary (surveys and questionnaires) and secondary data. 1. Research Question
 What are the issues resulting into high employee turnover in the aviation industry?
1.1Background to the Research question
High employee turnover rate is one of the major challenge aviation industry is currently
facing in the competitive business environment. This can be considered as one of the major
incapability of the human resource management in an organisation operating within the
aviation industry to retain their employees for a longer period (Karatepe and Vatankhah
2014). Constantly increasing competitive pressure in the market makes it difficult for the
organisations to retain their employees. A number of factors along with the competitive nature
of the market facilitates in determining the employee turnover rate. This research will focus
on identification of the factors involved in employee turnover.
This particular topic is selected for the research due to its importance and the growing
challenges faced by the organisations on the same. This will help identifying the major factors
supplementing in the increased rate of employee turnover in the aviation sector, which will
further facilitate in addressing the issues, as the HR departments will then have knowledge on
the source of the issue.
1.2 Research Objectives
 To understand the issues causing into high turnover in the aviation sector
This will communicate the challenges faced by the HR management that limits their
ability to retain their staffs.
 To identify the employees’ understanding of the turnover rate and the reasons
affecting it
This will help identifying the need of the employees that is causing into
dissatisfaction, which ultimately facilitating into rising the turnover rate of the employees.
 To identify the management’s Opinion of the high turnover rate within the industry
This will help recognising the management’s perception of the issue concerned.

and employee supplementing in the factor. This will help recommending the modification
required in the HR management of the organisation that will help reducing employee turnover
rate.
1.3 Justification for your choice of Research topic
The above-formulated question will review the issue from a number of perspectives.
Employees’ opinion as well as the management’s opinion regarding the issue will be
reviewed for understanding the gap that will further help in identification of the issue.
Moreover, annual reports and journal articles will also be reviewed to identify the pattern in
the issue. It will then be possible to provide recommendation about the concerned changes
required for solving the problem.

2. Methodology
2.1 Research Approach taken
The approach elected for the research is deductive as it focuses on identification of the
issues causing employee turnover in aviation industry. The source of data is of two types that
are primary and secondary. The data that will be utilised for this research is of both primary
and secondary types. Moreover, the data collection method that will be implemented in this
case is the quantitative data collection method that according to Flick (2015) deals with the
statistical data. Type of data that would be used in the research has been discussed in the
following.
2.2 Secondary Research.
Secondary data is usually collected from a vast reading source. However, for the
proposed research, the secondary data will be collected from the peer-reviewed journals,
articles, news media, books, blogs and other wide reading resources. Considering the fact of
reliability, the data will be collected from the credible and reliable sources such as university
library, government publications and books of authors with copyrights.

2.4 Primary Research Data Collection Plan
Sampling method suited for this research is the probabilistic random sampling. This
allows to random the sample population within the total target population, where no other
variables interfere in the process. Hence, the validity and authenticity of the sample remains
high (Acharya et al 2013). Furthermore, the research will be using stratified random sampling

where the sample population will be divided into a number of groups. The sample here will be
divided into two broad groups that are employees and the management.
Primary data collection method implemented in this case will be survey method. The
survey will be conducted on both the employees and management of the sample population.
Responses of the participants will be collected using questionnaire, which will be comprised
of a set of closed-ended questions and will be distributed through online. This in case of
employees will help in identifying the need for satisfaction in which the organisations lack.
The questionnaire for the management will seek to answer the management issues faced in the
process of organising the employees.
2.5 Data Analysis
Selected tool for analysing the questionnaires is regression analysis tool that will help in
identifying the variables involved and their relation with the issues. The relation between
dependent and independent variables will be identified and explained using this model of
analysis. This will help determining how the factors related alters the rate of employee
turnover in the aviation industry (Woodside 2013). Furthermore, the research will incorporate
statistical description method for presenting the results obtained from the regression analysis
for understanding of the readers (Tang and Zhang 2013).
