INTRODUCTION
The current project is based on Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives which is located
just a distance of 45-minute speedboat ride from the Velana International Airport Malé. This,
Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives is very famous for its villas and facilities along with
tailored package and services for all type of guest. Apart from this, the current project and report
comprises of a discussion about the different types of resorts including their key features along
with issues and challenges of managing them. Further, an implication about the deference in
operational requirements of specialist areas and the potential issues managing the different
specialist areas for a range of resorts is also made. At last, an evaluation about the different types
of resort packages along with their meeting of overall sales objectives is also included into
current project.

P1.The different types of resorts along with their key features and potential issues and challenges
of managing them
A resort is basically a self contained and autonomous form of destination that provides and
fulfils all travel needs of an individual at one specific location. Resort is mainly a commercial
self-sufficient location that tries to meet and provides all vacation ‘s wants of a traveller or
tourist comprising of suitable facilities for drink, lodging, food, sports, swimming pools and
sports courts along with entertainment, and shopping facilities at a single place within the
premise (Ahn, 2020). The main facilities and expectations meet by resorts comprises of foods,
drink, sports activities along with facilities like spa, golf court, shopping and other associated
activities (Stankov and Filimonau, 2019). On the basis of facilities provided and other aspects of
resorts, it is divided into many types. The various forms and different types of resorts along with
analysis of their key futures and potential issues and challenges faced while managing them are
provided as follows:
Ski resorts- This type of resorts is mainly developed and created for offering a location for
skiing, snowboarding along with all other winter sports along with activities like ice Driving/Ice
Karting, 'Fat' Snow Biking, Zip Wire, Ice Diving, Spa/Wellness/Fitness, Activity
Complexes/Water Parks, Snow Shoeing and Husky Sledding which are mainly adjacent to some
ski or mountainous areas with appropriate ski traits, pastas and ski loft system. The ski resorts

are further divided into four common types comprises of first-generation resorts are developed

developed as non-tourist village or pasture along with integrated toes and village resorts which
are also constitute as main type of ski resorts designed from a scratch on virgin territory along
with creation around some existing village. The main features and facilities of ski resorts consists
of paths for skiing known as traits along with one or more chairlifts for offering a better
experience for skiers to move rapidly at top of hills which are interconnected to various traits.
The famous ski resorts comprise of The Crystal, Obergurgl whcih offers direct access to
the Obergurgl/Hochgurgl ski area along with a 68 mi of slopes between 1,800 and 10 feet above
sea level, 7.5 mi of winter along with other ski resorts like Austria or Premier Luxury Mountain
Resort, Bansko and Bulgaria as main examples. Further, the main issues and challenges which
are faced while managing a ski resorts comprises of maintenance and ensuring proper ski system
and other needed equipments along with a first aid facility to keeps the customers safe (Sugathan
and Ranjan, 2019). Apart from this, managing and keeping ski patrol and avalanche control
along with snowmaking and providing regular training and grooming to resort operators and par
operation loft are also a main issues and challenges faced while managing a ski resort. The other
challge faced by a ski resort comprises of global warming as it leading to reduction in snow and
ice which is a main requirement of ski resort.
Spa resorts- These types of resorts mainly comprise of places where invigorating baths and

Thermal and mineral spas destinations that are type of resorts consists of areas and resorts . the
spa resorts mainly selected at places which are rich in mineral spring that produce and implies
use of hot water or normal water that is filled with minerals that enhance the clinical and
therapeutic properties of massage and bath. Thus, main features of spa resorts comprises of
different types of treatments which are available as common spa facilities consists of Face
Treatments, Body Treatment, Massages, Nail Treatment, Hair Removal and other Medical
Treatments as massage with the use of mineral and thermal water helps in and get rid of muscle
tension to treatment various health issues (Chan, Wan and Tam, 2019).

the set regulation and precaution set out by COSHH to protect customers and workers from
health implication and illness from the mineral or substance use at spa resorts is biggest
challenge and issues faced while managing a spa resort.
Beach resorts- This category of resorts mainly comprises of a fully services holiday
location that facilities and provided proper lodging facility located at some seaside along with
accusation and management of some private beach which offers a wide range of amenities and
services for environment and recreational purpose which consists of Private Beach, Swimming

Pool & Jacuzzi, Outdoor Games, Indoor Games, Kids Play Area and gaming zone. An example
of beach resorts consists of Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives very famous for its villas

with beautiful sea destination. The main issues and challenges faced while managing a Beach
resort consists of maintaining and loading all health and safety acts for children along with
meeting camps and legal provisions set out for caring for children. Further, ensuring sustainable
development and precaution of costal environment from hazardous impact of pollution lead by
mass scale tourism is also comprises as main issue of beach resorts. Further, maintaining a
balance and coordination among the impact lead by mass scale tourism in the social and cultural
community of destination in the firm of better employment opportunity and highlight its
heritages also forms key feature of beach resorts.

required from to perform activities which starts from ticket sales to loft operations. Further, the
main issues faced in managing specialist areas for a ski resorts comprises of providing required
training and skills to employees all ski related activities and sports in a safe manner along with
providing proper first aid training and assistance to customers. Further, the main issues and
challenge encountered by ski resorts is associated with global warming and carbon emission as it
is effectively affecting the business through limiting areas of show and creating may sudden

with waste management and enhanced level of water contaminated and pollution are the main
challenges and issues faced by resort industry. The different operational requirement that are
evaluated for a range of resorts comprises of ski system and skiing, snowboarding adjacent to
some mountainous areas in case of ski resorts. The main issues of managing specialist area of ski
resorts consists of meting health and safety of visitors that can be overcome by the effective first
aid management strategies and effective training of staff and employees to minimise these issues.
In case of spa resort, leading therapeutic and medical services is the main operational
requirement which comprises of challenge associated with safety of customers from hazardous
affect or reaction of any thermal, mineral or substance used in massage and therapy that can be
overcome only by appointing more skilled and knowledgeable employees (Baiomy, Jones and
Goode, 2019). In case of beach and golf resort, the operational requirement is related with

The main issues and challenge faced in ski resorts is associated with maintaining proper ski
equipment and system along with preparation of snow and maintaining proper safety and health
care of visitors. The issues faced in managing spa resorts is associated with higher level of
control and monitoring from Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH). To ensures
better Health and Safety of treatments at spa resorts from the negative impact of any kind of
harmful mineral or substances used. In case of beach resort maintaining precaution and safety of
costal environment from the pollution lead by mass tourism is the biggest challenge where as
main issues of golf resort consists of obtaining all needed licenses and permission from COSHH
along with harbours harmful impacts on earth and environment. The recommendation that can be
made fur theses different kinds of resort to overcome these challenges comprises of recruiting

and employing more talented employees to ensure better operational specialist in their respective

along with some better discount and offers to attract large number of visitors to meet overall
sales objective of a resort. For current project two examples of resort packages are taken a

Kandooma Maldives (Kumar and Soni, 2020) The other key advantages and facilities offered
under this package consists of Guests can enjoy a work-out at the fitness center or run on the
jogging track around the island along with Thai massages and body treatments. Further, fresh
local seafood is served at The Kitchen Restaurant, which offers breathtaking sunset views. The
newly refurbished Kandooma Cafe features Western and Asian meals and provides indoor and
outdoor seating. The drawback of Wedding and honeymoon packages in Holiday Inn Resort
Kandooma Maldives comprises of the fact that it is more expensive as compared to other
discount package along with its attract and target only a limited number of customers.
