Report
AI Summary
This report explores the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) in home automation, focusing on the integration of various technologies to create smart home systems. The report reviews existing literature, highlighting the use of Raspberry Pi for data collection and control of home appliances, emphasizing remote access capabilities. It also examines the use of IP addressing for device identification and the implementation of security measures, such as Elliptic Curve Cryptography, to protect user data and privacy. The report discusses the advantages of these systems, such as convenience and remote control, while also acknowledging the security challenges inherent in these interconnected systems. The reviewed studies provide insights into the evolution of home automation, the importance of data analysis, and the ongoing efforts to enhance both functionality and security in smart home environments.

1APPLICATION OF IOT IN HOME AUTOMATION
Literature Review
Various researches have been conducted on the applications of Internet of Things (IoT)
such as Industrial control, home automation and many more. The application of IoT in Home
Automation systems is studied in this literature review. Home Automation also known as smart
home is the automation of the home utilities such as lighting, security, heating, air-conditioning
and home appliances.
Home Automation is achieved by inter connection of different services and appliances
available in a home. The devices are able to communicate with each other in machine language
connected over a Wi-Fi connection and provide optimum performance to the users. This system
also supports remote access, thus allowing worldwide user access. These key concepts can be
obtained from studying the papers on IoT based Home Automation.
The research produced in this literature is the development of IoT with the help of
Raspberry PI (Kulkarni et al. 2017). The technology supports a large number of sensors to
generate and analyse huge quantity of data that helps to monitor and control any electronic and
electrical appliances. The research provides remote access to the devices and collecting the
necessary data recorded by them. Such data includes user preference and usage details. Remote
Access is the advantage here but the disadvantage includes high security risks as the system
lacks privacy protection. The research in this literature is aimed at providing home automation
with the help of IP addressing system (Iaz et al. 2017). IP addressing provides a unique identity
to each appliance. This system also supports remote access and even cell phones can be used,
which increases the security threats. This literature review demonstrates a research on smart
home system using asymmetric Elliptic Curve Cryptography that increase the security provided

by the system (Santoso and Vun 2015). The advantage being high privacy and minimized
hacking chances but the limitation would be slow operations due to authentication in every step.
Similarities include remote access.
The future work would include lower operating time and higher privacy and security.
