economy. With domestic tourists, the place has accounted to have a significant visit from foreign
tourists hailing from Japan, United States, Singapore to India, Canada, Germany and others
(Smith, 2013). Considering the Singaporeans lacking rich culture being a place of multiple
cultures merged together, the cultural values of Hong Kong serves to be of major interest for
them.
With temples, museums, art centres and monasteries, every aspect of the place echoes the
culture of the region. The history and lifestyles of the local community of the different places
enhance the tourists to get attracted towards the culture. Hong Kong is generally observed as the
“shopping paradise”, however, the country tries to develop varying types of tourism as well.
Having the mutual blend of both Chinese and Western culture, the government has the potential
to promote cultural tourism to attract the tourists and enjoy their remarkable stay at Hong Kong
(Richards, 2016).
Hong Kong has sufficient cultural capital and assets that delve in a depth of aesthetic and
historical values. The government has initiated various measures to promote and uplift the
unique culture that Hong Kong has in its region (Zhang, Decosta & McKercher, 2015). Various
celebrations commemorating the culture such as the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival or
International Chinese New Year Night Parade also takes place that serve to be very attractive for
the tourists. The Old Tai O Police Station and Former Marine Police Headquarters have been
transformed to be the ‘Tai O Heritage’ and the ‘1881 Heritage’ for cultural significance (South
