1ROLE OF MANAGER IN REHABILITATION HOSPITAL
Rehabilitation hospitals provide facilities to patients suffering from various acute
neurological, orthopaedic or other issues, for the purpose of stabilizing their condition
through intensive medical attention. The members of such a facility have a variety of roles to
play in order to ensure that it operates and functions smoothly, without any discrepancies for
the patients. Rehabilitation hospitals use a variety of assistance to improve the state of the
patient’s, including cognitive, pharmacological, occupational and physical therapies
(Beaulieu et al., 2015). In this regard, the role of a manager in a rehabilitation hospital is
important to ensure that the patients receive the best quality of services from the facility and
that the hospital operates in an efficient manner.
My observance of the manager in the rehabilitation hospital has led to me believe in
the significance of leadership qualities and skills required for efficiency in his operations. The
manager has integrated the various departments allotted for adults, children and individuals
requiring emergency attention in a systematic manner so that the activities of one do not
hamper the others (Rosario, Kaplan, Khonsari & Patterson, 2014). Moreover, the manager
also performs the duty of supporting the employees, staff, nurses and various doctors so that
they may be able to provide the patients with adequate assistance to the best of their abilities.
Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the manager to know if the infrastructure and
technology used for the therapy of the patients requires advancement or innovation, and
ensure such improvement if it benefits the hospital and its patients.
The functions performed by the manager of the rehabilitation hospital pertain to the
efficiency of the various activities performed within the scope of the facility. I observed that
the manager first prepares a schedule for the tasks that needs to be performed by him. All
activities of the various departments in the hospital are then evaluated from the reports sent
by them, using which the manager identifies critical cases or certain requirements of the
departments which need to be fulfilled urgently. In case of identifiable discrepancy from any

individual or department, the manager addresses the same so that the challenges faced by
them are tackled immediately. In my course of following the activities of the manager, I have
noticed that he also has to attend to urgent cases of complaints from the patients or clients
and deal with them by integrating their interests with the interests of the employees as well as
the hospital as a whole (Behdioğlu, Acar & Burhan, 2019). This required the manager to be
proactive and have quick thinking abilities for solving problems efficiently.
As per my observation of how the manager of a rehabilitation hospital functions, his
primary motive was to act in accordance with the mission, vision and policies of the
organization. Owing to his hierarchical position in the structure of the facility, he performs
the responsibility of collaborating the functions of the various departments (Silva et al.,
2017). Additionally, I also noticed that in order to ensure efficiency, the manager has to make
ethical decisions for which critical thinking skills are required. Furthermore, the manager also
displayed an immense knowledge about the industry, due to which he could efficiently solve
the problems faced by clients and employees. According to me, such skills in the manager
further aids in relationship building and thereby helps in the development of the hospital.
