AI Summary
This report provides a detailed database design proposal for a Hospital Management System (HMS). It addresses the limitations of manual registration systems in hospitals and proposes a database-driven solution to improve efficiency and patient care. The proposal outlines key features of the new system, including reliability, accessibility, and flexibility. It specifies data types such as integer, varchar, and date/time, and highlights important attributes like patient data, bill details, and prescription information. The report also details the responsibilities of different staff members, including hospital managers, doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, in managing and maintaining the data within the system. The database will be developed in Oracle using a conceptual model. The report also includes bibliography with references.

2DATABASE DESIGN PROPOSAL
Introduction
The aim of the report is to describe the importance of information technology within a
hospital management so that they can enhance the performance of the system. With the growing
population it becomes essential to ensure that hospital is able to provide better medical facilities
towards the patients. There is a huge need to implement information system that will help in
tracking the online events effectively. Manual registration system has faced several problems as
it impacts the performance of the hospital. In order to include a proper database design within a
hospital it becomes essential to ensure that the designing phase is being performed successfully.
Problem faced in existing system
Earlier the hospital used to maintain a manual registration system that helped in
managing the performance of the system and stored all essential details related to the patients.
Manual registration system is considered to be one of the most time consuming process that
impacts the overall performance and also possess the capability to hamper the services provided
towards the patients. Moreover using manual registration system is a time consuming process
and thus it becomes essential to implement proper HMS so that it can provide support towards
the system. With an effective implementation of HMS it is expected that the management will be
able to make vital decision that will ensure better customer services.
Proposed solution for the hospital
With the use of manual system it is observed that there is a huge delay is observed in the
process of retrieving information related patients. Moreover there is a high need to include

proper health facility so that they can manage the tasks effectively. In order to improve the
facilities of the hospital it becomes essential to implement hospital management system as it has
the potential to improve the performance of the hospital. The database management system will
ensure that the data stored within the system can be sorted effectively with the help of proper
system. The solution that is offered for managing the previous challenges is implementation of
hospital management system.
Designing database for HMS
The main features that will be offered with the implementation of new database system is
that it will be reliable, available to all, accessible and should be flexible. The data types that are
used in this hospital management system will be integer, varchar, date time and float. The
important attributes for the table includes patient data, bill table, prescription data, ERD, details
regarding patient discharge. The database will be developed in Oracle using proper conceptual
model and different functions.
Breakdown of responsibilities among staff
In order to develop a hospital management system it becomes essential to breakdown the
responsibilities among the staffs so that information can be maintained properly.
Hospital manager: focus on survey planning, specifying the contents, processing input
Staffs: managing the data, preparing data, sampling, dissemination and presentation,
survey data
Doctors: maintain data related to patients, personal details managing, storing prescription
