26SCENARIO OF RELOCATING BURNABY HOSPITAL
10. Project Gates
The project gates should be set in order to check the status and progress of the project.
This review would be done with the upper management team that would look into each of the
details of the project.
The first project gate would be defined during the initial defining of project plan and
financial plan for the project. In this phase, the plan of the project would be prepared for review
by the hospital management team.
The second project gate would be made during the middle phase of constructing the
project. The project management team would ensure that the construction has been progressing
as per the design layout of the project.
The third project gate would be set after the medical equipment have been fixed in proper
phase. During this phase, the management team would check that each of the medical equipment
have been put in proper place and as per the necessities of the hospital.
11. Risks
11.1 Risk identification
It is quite a known fact that the construction projects are most likely to be subjected to
uncertainties since most of the times it has been found that the risks under which the project is
being propagated has several complexities. It has also been found that the objectives of the
project, which in this case is the construction of the Burnaby General Hospital in a new location
near the corner of the Willingdon and the Canada Way. The identification of risk is extremely
important so that it becomes easy to identify all the implications that would cause problems for
the project team to reach its target. Identifying the sources of all these risks are important so that

proper mitigating factors can be applied to the project so that the essential mitigating factors can
help reaching the project goal without any issues arising.
11.2 Prioritization
The risk prioritization factor enables the identification of the risks according to their
severity on which they might affect the propagation of the project. The ways by which the
prioritization is done makes it easier to differentiate between clustered risks at the same level
based on their severity. The prioritization also helps to respond to the risks according to the
available resources. It would be much helpful if the risk is prioritized for the project for utilizing
the least amount of resources being applied for the mitigation of the risks.
11.3 Cost Contingency
Cost Contingency is a factor that is used for this particular project for setting aside a
specific sum of money for covering any specific incidents that might occur unexpectedly. The
amount of money that the project has reserved for the cost pf contingency can never be allocated
to any specific work area in the project and this is why it has the potential to act as an insurance
for any kind of unforeseen cost.
11.4 Risk Matrix

would have to be released due to the
construction work or the executive
body would have to look out for any
other way to ensure proper
treatment to the patients.
2. Transportation
of heavy
machinery to
specific floors
There might be
occurrences where the
stairways can be
blocked because of the
relocation of the heavy
machineries to the
specific floors.
The potential consequence that it
can cause is by halting the ongoing
operations that might utilize the
stairways for that point of time
during which the transportation of
the heavy machinery is going on
through the stairways.

3. Health hazards
to the patients
during the
construction
There might be
occurrences where the
construction project
may lead to the initial
hospital being negligent
to the patients or the
previously available
services may be
hampered due to the
ongoing construction
The patients might face adverse
situations regarding their health
where the situations might hamper
the way that the hospital
management and employees be
affected by the inability of serving
the patients.

4. Dust and
Infection Control
The construction
project of
reconstructing the
Burnaby Hospital may
lead to the residue of
dust and infection that
might affect the
patients even after the
completion of the
construction project.
Patients can be affected with the
residue dust and infectious particles
left after the construction since there
has not been a proper cleaning of
the construction area being
conducted. This can result severe
health issues to the existing patients
of Burnaby Hospital.
High
12. Project Team (your group is the team)
12.1 Importance of Project Team
The primary responsibility of the Project Manager lies in the detection of the proper
project team that would be resulting as effective to the construction project as a whole. This is
important as it would determine the synergy of the human beings involved within the project and
amplify the skills of every respective individual team member for the project and this would help
in the reaching of the set goal for the project in the most effective way.

The government of Canada The government of Canada would be in
responsibility of going through the entire
project and understanding the feasibility and
effectivity of the project to be thoroughly
scrutinized by the Government of Health in
Canada by passing onto next.
Government of Health in Canada The Government of Health in Canada is in
responsibility of scrutinizing the details of
the project to understand the overall project
advantages and how effectively it would be

13. Project Communications – Matrix showing internal and external, types and frequency
The success of any project primarily depends upon the communication and the effective
ways by which the communication can be conducted. The effectiveness of the communication
decides whether the maximization of the success or the minimization of the risks can be made
possible. This is the ways by which the collaboration program for the Burnaby Hospital and its
relocation can be formulated in the most effective way possible including the minimization of all
the above identified risks.

There could be different issues in relation to the procurement of items, persons and other
resources required for the project. These include:
Identification of external resources – The external resources such as the medical
equipment and other raw materials that need to be procured during the construction phase should
be properly identified. The project manager would need to keep a complete check over the
resources that are procured within the department.
Selection of seller details of tendering – The tender would only be marked as successful
after evaluating them against a certain set of metrics. The seller would need to respond to certain
metrics based on an Evaluation Criteria metrics. Hence based on meeting with the requirement of
the criteria, the tender for the project would be set to them.
