Hospitality industry and contribution of accommodation sector
Hospitality industry is category of services that includes lodging, food and
drink services, event planning, theme parks, and transportation. In other
words, hospitality industry refers to providing products and services to
individuals through which they can undertake recreational activities and
these services well-being of individuals. Accommodation services play
very important role in hospitality industry, accommodation plays very
important role in ensuring effective overall experience of individuals while
visiting a place and this is also biggest part of travellers’ experience.

Different types of accommodation services found within the sector and
difference between commercial and non-commercial businesses
 Motels- Motels are the type of accommodation that features selection of Studio and one or two bedroom unit.
In this motels tea coffee and sometimes cooking facilities are provided and they also provide television.
 Hotels- Hotel is another and most popular type of accommodation. Hotels offer several types of services and
their services differ on the basis of star level of the hotel.
 Apartments- Apartment is a type of accommodation that is highly suitable for people or travellers who are
looking to cook their own meals and do their laundry and wants to have their own space wild travelling or
holidaying.
 Luxury Lodges- Luxury Lodges are a type of accommodation in which slides are provided with extremely
accommodating experience. Luxury Lodges take care of every kind of need of clients and provide iron on fine
gourmet cuisine and clients can enjoy highest standard of costing and facilities.
 Holiday Park- Holiday Park is a kind of accommodation that provides sites for tents, caravans and
campervans. Meaning of this holiday parks also have simple cabins and self-contained motel units and
backpackers lodges.

Commercial and non-commercial businesses
Commercial businesses types of businesses that involve
activities including distribution of goods and provides
services however they do not involve manufacturing
processing and production of goods. On the other hand
non commercial business is a type of legal entity that is
registered in a separate government body and carries out
their activities on the basis of specific laws.

Different forms of ownership applicable to
accommodation services
 There are several forms of ownership that are applicable for accommodation services. These types of ownership
are-
 Franchise Model- This is a type of ownership in which hotels in different locations are operated by getting
license from owner to operate hotel on their name. This model has its advantages and disadvantages in which as
they get recognition from brand name and proven business model’ success, they also can frequently establish
themselves.
 Privately owned and operated- This is the type of accommodation ownership in which owner of
accommodation is completely free however this ownership has highest level of risk. In this type of ownership
accommodation owner is free to make all decisions for their accommodation and regarding its management. In
addition to this there are also free to take decision on staff structure of organisation and its growth however they
do not have benefit of a brand or brand name with them.
 Leased- This type of accommodation ownership is also privately owned however in this accommodation
building or property belongs to someone else.

Grading and classification systems and role they play when
potential guests look for and book accommodation
Grading and classification system refers to a system on the basis of which facilities
provided by accommodation can be determined. In this different grading systems are
used by accommodations and this mainly includes star grading system and letter
grading system. Letter grading system includes from A to F. In this grading system one
star accommodation refers to accommodation with basis features and five star hotels
include highest quality and standard services with several facilities are provided to
guests. In context of letter grading system A grade refers to highest quality and facilities
being provided by accommodation and F refers to lowest facilities provided by
accommodations.

Grading system plays very important role when potential guest are looking and booking for
accommodation. Classification system helps potential guests in linking their requirements
with grade of hotel and they can also link their budget with type of accommodation they can
afford. This means that guests who want to spend less money on accommodation can select
budget/economy accommodation or tourist class/standards accommodation.
Grading system is also similar to classification of accommodation however grading also
involves grading provided by customers of guests who have stayed in accommodation and
have experience its services and facilities. This makes very strong influence on guests when
they are looking for accommodation.

Role played by online review sites when potential guests look for
and book accommodation
Online review sites like Tripadvisor plays very important role in influencing customers and potential
guest regarding their selection of accommodation. Some of their roles are-
Developing image for accommodation- This is one of the most important role these sites play. This
means that when guests are looking for accommodation, they check these review sites in order to
understand experiences that guests have had with the accommodation.
Helps in understanding customer service and support of accommodation- This is another important
role that review sites play in influencing guests while looking and booking for an accommodation.
Response of accommodation managers and customers’ service people of accommodation for complaints
as well as positive reviews on these sites also plays important role in influencing their decisions.

Research elements of review sites- This is also important role of these sites
as guests become aware that reviews and grades being given to a particular
accommodation is based on research of review site as well as customers’
review and rating. High rating makes positive impact on customers whereas
low rating negatively influence them. Increasing trust of individuals on
these sites and also user generated data on these sites play very important
role in influencing their decisions regarding selection of accommodation.

CONCLUSION
On the basis of above discussion, it can be concluded that accommodation
sector is very important part of hospitality industry. Later, study involved
discussion regarding different types of ownership for accommodation and
what are the forms that accommodation have. In this lease, franchise and
individual ownership is included. Later study discussed grading and rating
system within accommodation sector. Lastly, role of online review sites was
also discussed and discussion outlines that in times of digitalisation, these sites
play very important role in influencing potential guest regarding their
selection of accommodation.
