Introduction
The following report is based on business-integrated learning, which refers to the concept of
practical application of the knowledge gathered by the academic process into an organization or
workplace. The business integrated learning helps in analyzing what the skills student has
gained. The report will further give information about the short term, mid-term and long run
goals of the student. It will be providing information about the self-appraisal and lastly, it will
provide recommendations for the betterment of planning and conditions. While reading the
report it should be kept in mind that the student is presently working as a gaming and food
attendant and his future goal is to be a hospitality manager in future.
Career goals
I belong to the field of hospitality and management, this is a field for the people who are
friendly, who are always seeking towards learning new concepts, ideas and meeting new people.
The sector is gaining popularity not only in Australia but also throughout the world (Ash &
Clayton, 2004). In my opinion, the sector is growing at a rapid rate and has opportunities for
every individual who is devoted and passionate about this work.
ALH group of hotels has a largely expanded business in Australia, thus it is a dream come true
situation for a student to work as an intern for such a big chain (DuBrin & Geerinck, 2015). It
has presently more than 300 licensed venues and around 550 retail liquor shops in Australia
(ALH, 2019).
It is also true that there are various hotel chains, which offers more work opportunities to the
employees in comparison to ALH group, but for the beginners and the students who want to
complete the business-integrated experience ALH is not a bad option (Andresen, et al., 2019).
The conditions currently prevailing in hotel and management sector are not easy to define. The
chains face a cutthroat competition in market, there is a perpetual race going in between great
hotels (García-Lillo & Úbeda-García, 2016). These chains of hospitality are making every
possible effort to provide quality work to their customers. These hotels, which face heavy
competition, require professionally skilled, well-groomed and experienced workers who have

caliber to deal with competitive situations (Gursoy, 2019). Keeping the following conditions in
mind I have decided to opt international hospitality management as my subject for the final
semester. This will help me in understanding my role as a manager. The subject will be helpful
in understanding the planning procedure followed by a manager to hold a stiff control over
competitive situations (Chang & Tse, 2015). I would like to pursue diploma of hospitality
management, which will add, on skills and knowledge. As the competition in the industry is
rising, it is normal that the students will also face the competition to score good and be a part of
best organization.
Short-term goals
My short-term goals while studying was about working hard for my academics so that I will be
eligible to work as an intern with a popular firm, which offers great career opportunities.
According to me, the performance as an intern matters a lot to get a good job opportunity in the
same firm in future. Thus, it becomes important to deliver best quality of services throughout the
span of internship (Andringa, et al., 2016). Currently, I am working as a gaming and food
attendant in the ALH Group of hospitality management. Here, I am working from last more than
15 months and I have gained good experience. The sole aim is to work hard and open doors to
new opportunities in same firm.
Mid-term goals
It is a fact that to deal things on a massive scale it is essential to have knowledge of the industry.
This is because I have a mindset to work as a manager in ALH Group of hospitality
management. My decision of working as a manager in the same hotel chain is to maintain
stability in my professional background (Gonzalez, et al., 2019). My midterm goal will be
helpful in attaining the long-term goals. In order to understand the working conditions closely
minimum experience of 1-3 year is essential. Hence, a statement, which can be drawn out, is that
I will be working as a manager for 1-3 years.
Long-term goals
Lastly, my long term goal or the main reason behind pursuing the following course is to build
hotel chains throughout the world. I want to be an hotelier, initially want to develop hotels within
Australia (Wirahardja, et al., 2016). Further, for the betterment of these hotels and for achieving

best customer satisfaction reviews I will apply my practical and theoretical knowledge, which I
have gained within past five or six years. Once the hotels will gain popularity within Australia, it
will be easier to develop chains in nearby nations and later in every popular country in the world
(Andringa, et al., 2016).
Self –Appraisal
Integrative learning is concerned with the application of knowledge and skills into various
sources. It means the use of skills that can be applied upon the experiences (Rogers, 2001).
Similarly, I have applied my skills onto the profession that I am pursuing currently. For my
professional development, I have been pursuing my profession and applying my core skills into
the job that I am pursuing currently. I have applied my skills in order to make my job and
experience more effective and more enhanced.
Presently, I am working as a gaming and food attendant in a hotel chain. There I have gained
experience of about 15 months. This internship has helped me in developing my interaction and
communication skills, earlier I felt hesitating and shy while taking to new people but with time I
have come across numerous new people on daily basis. Not only the practical knowledge but
also the helping nature of my peers and supervisors helped me a lot in understanding new
concepts of hospitality. It was a great experience to work with the ALH Group of hospitality.
The following hotel chain is counted in top hotel chains existing in Australia. With the help of
this internship, I got to know about my skills and experience I already have for instance I have
great capacity of grasping and memorizing things for longer period. The short lessons and
activities, which were earlier conducted at the college level, were unknowingly helpful in
gaining the fruitful results.
Personal development through integrative learning is concerned with the enhancement into the
skills and abilities. This can be enhanced by making a fair analysis of strengths and weaknesses
and making necessary contributions into the improvement of the weaknesses. Personal
development plays a vital role in the integrated learning as it helps in the application of personal
competencies into my personal life. Moreover, I have also tried hard to analyze my weaknesses
and skillful defects, which I should definitely work upon, for instance- looking into the eyes of
the listener in a gentle way, this shows that you are interested in providing an answer to the

questioner, and states the confidence level. I would like to work upon my communication skills,
speed of completing a task and drawing an accurate report (Hertzman, et al., 2015). Being a part
of hospitality and care it becomes essential to acquire knowledge about the new trends and
tactics prevailing I the market to drawn customers from the competitive hotel chains.
Conclusion and Recommendations
As per the above report, it can be concluded that the hotel industry is gaining a strong foothold in
the global market. There are perquisites of working in the hotel industry because the salaries
offered by the hotel chains and other benefits of getting additional off over different
accommodation and cab bookings. All of these things attract a large number of people to enter
into this industry. Therefore, the students who are pursuing hotel management course or some
hospitality course are required to develop career plans, which can be executed timely. By
developing good career goal the things remains clear in the site of the student and he/she will
work accordingly. The task of managing hotels and work related to specific departments is not an
easy task. Hence, it can be recommended that the student should do proper framing of his career
goals and objectives initially.
