1.1. Problem Statement
In the growing era of fierce competition within the Australian tourism industry, several
experts have identified that several challenges are faced in the area of human resource
management (Du Plessis, Douangphichit and Dodd 2015). Such issues include high employee
turnover due to poor motivation of employees in workplace because of inadequate benefits, low
compensation rates, poor employee morale and unsuitable working conditions that requires to be
addressed for success of the hospitality business.
1.2. Research Objectives
The objectives of the current research that are to be attained through successful
accomplishment of the study are indicated below:
To analyse the motivation level of employees working within the Australian tourism
industry
To evaluate the ways in which lower and higher employee level needs affects motivation
of employees

2. Research Design
2.1. Core Function
Applied research method will be employed in carrying out research on “Motivation of
Employees in Hospitality Business” as it is most suitable in this study in revealing the solution
for an immediate issue faced within the hospitality industry. This type of research is selected as it
is majorly focussed on generalisations along with centred on new knowledge or expansion of the
current knowledge without any concerns related with applicability (Briggs and Coleman 2019).
Applied research implementation can facilitate the researcher in ensuring research validity as it
aims to solve an issue related with a specific situation.
2.2. Informational Requirements
Descriptive research design will be employed in this study as it is considered to be most

3. Data Collection Methods
As the research on “Motivation of Employees in Hospitality Business” will considered
carrying out quantitative research for this reason, the researcher will consider employing
questionnaire surveys for primary data collection from the target participants. Questionnaire
survey is selected as it can serve as the most effective method in gathering quantitative data from
the participants that is considered to be highly reliable and valid for analysing them accurately
and for developing constrictive recommendations in solving the research problem (Kumar 2019).
Moreover, other data collection methods such as structured interviews, observation and case
studies are not employed as it can prove to be a time consuming process for data collection and
these methods have certain possibility of errors of memory and judgement. These data collection
techniques also have narrow focus because of which limited generalisation is possible. For this
reason, questionnaire survey is deemed to be justified to be used in this research as it can serve
as the most economical way of gathering accurate information with wide coverage as in this
research sample population is spread over a large territory (Ledford and Gast 2018). This
primary data collection method will also facilitate in ensuring anonymity to its respondents as
they will provide their genuine response considering that their identity will remain confidential.
4. Qualtrics Survey
4.1. Qualtrics Questionnaire Type
In carrying out Qualtrics survey fir gathering quantitative primary data rating scales
based questions will be developed so that most accurate numerical data can be collected for its
easy analysis. Likert rating scale based questionnaire will be developed. Likert rating scale is
justified in developing questionnaire as it produces numerical data for quantitative analysis as

respondents are required to respond on the scale of 1 to 5 where, 1 indicates strongly disagree
and 5 indicates strongly agree (Mackey and Gass 2015). This can also provide most accurate
measure of their liberal and conservative opinions. Questions will be based on factors affecting
employee motivation in the tourism sector of Australia along with their recommendation to their
organisations in improving workplace benefit and self-development programs that can increase
their motivation. The questionnaire will be sent to the target respondents through e-mail medium
and a timeframe of 5 days will be provided to them in reverting on the survey (McCusker and
Gunaydin 2015). It will be simple and less time consuming for the respondents to revert in a
likert scale based questionnaire as they can easily answer them through selecting their options on
the rating scale of 1 to 5.
4.2. Level of Measurement
Likert rating scales based questionnaire will be measured through employing ordinal
level of measurement approach. Ordinal measurement level is deemed to be justified in analysing
quantitative survey data gathered as it can facilitate the reasechers in easily identifying and
classifying a research object (Putra, Cho and Liu 2017). It can also facilitate in measuring the
classification which explains the nature of information at the time values are assigned to the
dependent and independent variables. In this research ordinal measurement scale can provide
researcher with order of values regarding major factors impacting employee motivation along
with ability to quantify the difference between them.
5. Sample Selection
In carrying out research on “Motivation of Employees in Hospitality Business”
probability sampling technique will be employed for selecting the target respondents for survey.

Several probability sampling techniques are considered suitable in quantitative researches such
as stratified and cluster sampling in ensuring that the sample selected is the best representative of
the sample population. However, these probability sampling have certain disadvantages such as
these have high chances of selecting specific class off samples only that can be redundant.
Considering the disadvantages of other probability sampling techniques, simple random
sampling will be carried out fir the reason that it can facilitate in offering equal chances to each
participant to get selected in the survey from a large population of employees working in tourism
industry of Australia (Quinlan et al. 2019). The research population that will be selected will be
the employees working in the hospitality industry of Australia. From such research population a
target population will be selected through simple random sampling approach. The target survey
population will be employees working within the tourism companies based in Australia. The
sample size from the target population will be selected based on Neuman’s guidelines that will
consider including 50 employees from 5 most renowned tourism organisations operating within
Australia that works in their organisation for at least two years. This sample size is considered
justified as quantitative data analysis requires a larger sample size in attaining as well as
analysing respondents responses with highest accuracy.
6. Data Analysis Techniques
In gathering significant research findings on research of “Motivation of Employees in
Hospitality Business”, the researcher will consider using bivariate data analysis technique. This
technique is considered suitable for this study as it can facilitate in revealing the relationship
between two sets of values, one fur dependent and other for independent variables (Walliman
2017). It can serve as the simplest statistical analysis form as two set of variables, employee
motivation and factors affecting employee motivation in tourism industry of Australia and

determining the empirical relationship between the through correlation analysis. The data that
will be analysed will be represented in the form of bar graphs and pie charts that can ensure

considered best suitable for representing ordinal data for the reason that it can easily be used in
converting employees’ opinion into a definite percentage for effectively estimating the trend of
their insights on the factors existing in tourism industry affecting their motivation in workplace.
7. Ethical Considerations
In carrying out the study ethically, the researcher will ensure that suitable research code
of conduct is followed while accomplishing the exploration (Wang 2016). While gathering
primary data from the target participants’ informed consent will be gathered from them before
they are persuaded to take part in the survey. In order to maintain the credibility of data, it will
be ensured that it is generated from authentic sources along with making sure that no business
use of research statement will be entertained by the reasechers. It will also be ensured by the
reasechers that identity of the respondents will not be disclosed for privacy concerns. Moreover,
the anonymity of the survey participants will also be maintained through avoiding asking any
delicate or irrelevant questions along with ensuring their mutual permission is taken from them
for participating in the survey (Walliman 2017). In addition, the data collected will be stored
with highest confidentiality and it will also be ensured that such data is only used for research
purposes and consideration same the useful implications of the survey findings will also be
communicated to the target participants.
