Personal statement
Hospitality industry is the biggest service sector in the globe that involves a vital existence
of tourism, hotels and food related services. It is also among the fastest growing sector of the
world to combat an intensifying state of rivalry (Yesiltas and et. Al., 2014). It together involves
other associated bodies that are operating in the hospitality industry to provision the facilities
related to planning events along with transportation and lodging services. I am envisioning a
bright future in hospitality with a keen interest in serving users in the best possible manner. This
is because I am very much fascinated towards the philosophy and ethos of hospitality firms and
hence interested in exploring it more.
I have thereby considered applying to one of the top most university of UK to study the
course of hospitality management. This is a 26 years old university that is situated in the Oxford
location of London. It is due to its renowned image in England where it is known as one of the
modern universities attracting a large set of students, approaching from more than 150 distinct
nations. It is also known to offer a diversified range of both under and post graduate courses that
are designed to inspire the youngsters. As a result, to which, it has been listed in the top 50
young universities in the globe.
I have hereby selected this particular university on considering its recognised position in UK
and will be obliged to be a part of it to study about the sales and marketing area of hospitality,
along with the use of SOP and the standards specified in it. I found SOP to be the most
appropriate tool that diligently guides the reader. SOP is basically an abbreviated term used for
“Standard Operating Procedure” that involves a manual documented in the form of written set of
instructions denoting activities to correctly perform the job by following standardised measures
(Shariff, Razak and Zainol, 2017). It is sometimes in the form of instructions or protocols to be
followed at the workplace with a special concern of following the compliances on based on the
regulatory norms framed by the government. The use of SOP in hospitality industry is with a
prime focus on enhancing the services provided to the clients.
It is with a specific consideration of educating the staff members to provide effective
services to the users. This is known to facilitate a smooth functioning of hospitality based
operations to efficiently handle the business related procedures. This will involve the
terminologies, functions, procedures of sales and marketing along with the tactics of negotiation
and CRM, etc., (Rathore, 2017). Also, this will include some requisite policies related to credit,

booking, cancellation and discount, etc. Although, it can be personalised in accordance to the
identified needs and demands of the consumers who are apparent to use the offered services. I
am looking to opt for a successful career in the sales and marketing division of hospitality where
I together like interacting with people from distinct set of culture. Such a specialised course in
the field of sales and marketing in hospitality is apparent to assist me in attaining my future goals
by getting a successful position in this particular arena.
