Critical Reflection
Interview Process and Preparation/ Challenges Faced
For the first stage of the interview, I had to see to get knowledge about the organisation so that I
would know what I was up against. Meaning that I would have proper knowledge of what are
going to be the questions asked during the interview. This stage of the interview often tests a
person’s thinking ability by conducting various amounts of tests related to the job role. I have
already a vast amount of experience due to which I would be able to easily to ace such tests. The
challenge which I faced during the first stage of the interview is that collection of information
about the organisation and what are its HR policies was very time-consuming. In this time I
could have practiced on working on my confidence level.
During the second stage of the interview process, a group discussion was done. In the group
discussion stage, I was put into a group with other people and my ability to take over the
competition was seen. In group interviews also it is seen on how one expresses their leadership
skills by letting others also talk and not interrupting them. There were different situations
provided in which it was asked on what could be the best training and development techniques
which could be provided. Such other challenging questions were asked which often led members
in the group discussion stumped (Saunders et. al. 2015).
From the questions, it was analysed on what the behavior of each individual is and also whether
they are able to apply time management while answering questions. From this round, the next
round and final stage of the interview was conducted. This was the face to face interview.
During the last interview stage, I faced many challenges due to which it did not go as expected.
One of the challenges that were faced by me was that of nervousness. I was very nervous and did
not show any signs of confidence. This left a bad image in front of the interviewer as the job role
which I had applied for did not take low signs of confidence as behavior. The duration of the

interview was also another obstacle which I faced. I thought that the interview would not be that
long but it turned out to be pretty long. This was not expected by me but no harm was caused
because even though the interview was long I answered each of the questions profoundly (Potter,
& Hepburn, 2012).
One questions that were a real setback was when I was asked what was my biggest failure. I had
anticipated that such a question would arise but still, I took time in answering which was not
considered to be a good thing to be done from my side. Also, I had to give truthful answers and
could not just make up stuff.
Evaluation and reflection on key strengths and weaknesses of the interview process you went
through
There were certain strengths and weaknesses which I showed during the interview. The analysis
of these strengths and weaknesses would help in determining whether I would get the job or not.
Strengths:
One of my strengths was that of my communications skills were on point. This meant that even
though I did get a bit nervous during the final stage of the interview process, the rest of the
process saw how effective a communicator I was. This was necessary to show because the job
role for which I had applied required that the candidate should have efficient as well as effective
listening skills.
Discipline, as well as patience, were my other two strengths which I got to showcase at the
interview. This showed that I was a calm person and was willing to let the other people speak
and when I got my chance I would speak. This also helped in showing another strength which I
possess which was being respectful. This showed that a person applying for such a high job post
should have these necessary skills.
The determination was another strength in which I showed how eager I was to get the job.
Determination is one of the key factors that will help in building confidence throughout the
interview so that I could not let my weaknesses show. But it is to be noted down that
determination starts to go down when some questions are asked that may show why you do not
deserve the job (Monster, 2019).

Weaknesses:
My main weakness that was seen is that I got nervous when entering the face to face interview
stage. This nervousness made my confidence look low which was a negative sign as the
organisation would prefer a learning and development officer who does not lose confidence
intense and crucial situations.
My other weakness was that I was too polite to everyone else in the group discussion round. This
shows that I am too much of a sympathetic person and would go let others get their way. This is
not allowed in the hotel as some strict actions would have to be taken in work is not done
properly.
