Safety and security is the biggest concern in hospitality industry as customer’s gets
attracted with this factors mainly. As a risk manager I would look into the factors which will help
to control the occupational risk in hospitality industry like engineering controls, administrative
controls and personal protective equipment (PPE)/work practice controls. Designing a proper
safety framework for maintenance can help the employees to thoroughly follow the measures,
this will help our customers feel safer. I have noticed that there are some safety concerns from
guests regarding their bathroom (Fireprevention.utexas.edu., 2020). Children are more tend to
get injured in bathroom, bathtubs can be slippery, shampoo provided can contain too much
chemical in it, steam produced from shower can be dangerous for the people with respiratory
issues, and there can be germs in toilet seat. Another concern which I have is related to the fire
hazard. There must be smoke alarms, doors near to path of travel which can be opened both
ways, while any emergency one important to be kept in mind is whether there is any customer
with disability so they will be provided with room with more protection so it becomes easier for
us to rescue them, frequent practice session will be there for all the employees for rescuing
customers an control fire. Fire alarm, proper maintenance and testing of those alarm is needed
for fire detection. Any inflammable thing should be properly maintained as well. For fire
suppressing there must be standpipes, automatic fire sprinkler, smoke control system, and bucket
full of sand (Athletico., 2020). Evacuation plan should contain acknowledgement of people
impacted by disaster, making provision for evacuation or shelter-in-place, fire safety plan must
be prioritized, employee training for those emergency situation, routine review and updates
should be done and post disaster plan must be developed to handle any emergency situation. For
increasing the security of the building a security system can be developed and here we can take
help from professionals or agents who provides proper system for any type of properties. For the

lock system electronic number combination can be used, biometric locks, mortise locks with
removable cores are much secured than those keys. For the protection from terrorist attack,
insurance of property is important, different systems for connecting with nearer police station,
CCTV sharing system and most important, evacuation planning and etc. needs to be managed.
There are other issues like economic condition and fraud done by customer is also there along
with these issues (ABC News., 2020).
