Introduction
• Hospitality industry is one
of the fastest growing
industries in UK but due
to COVID pandemic and
government regulations
like lock-down, curfews
and many others, the
growth of this industry
declines.
• Customers are investing less
in entertainment activities
and due to this most of the
hotels and restaurants have to
shut down their operations
because they are unable to
pay even their fixed cost.

Reason for shortage of staff members in hotel industry
• In context of hospitality industry, it impacts badly and
declines the revenue of almost every brand of hotel.
• Due to lock-downs, curfews and social distancing, no
customer is allowed to use hotel services (Afsar,
Shahjehan and Shah, 2018). Hence, they are unable to
earn and pay the salary of their staff members.
• One of the basic reasons for staff shortage in this
industry is COVID pandemic. It is ongoing global
pandemic due to which almost every sector and every
economy face losses.

In context of Premier Inn hotels, they have cut down 1500 hotel
and restaurant jobs which they evaluated are not essential for
their organisational growth (Chapman, 2021). This will help
them to save their cost of paying salaries to unproductive
workers. Now they are start generating new job roles and
responsibilities for new kind of jobs within their hotels but they
are facing issues to fulfil these jobs because most of the
candidates have trust issues that in case any situation arises like
COVID pandemic than they can again cut their jobs.

Importance of written and IT skill within the hotel industry
• It skill plays an important role in the
growth of hospitality sector. Technology
is developing with rapid speed and
hotels are adopting these technologies to
conduct their main operations. A larger
number of machinery and tools within
the industry require a larger number of
employees to operate them
appropriately for the benefit of their
hotel (Dewi, Dwiatmadja and Suharti,
2019).

• On the other hand, writing skill is also
essential in hotel industry because it
will help the waiters and waitress to
write down the orders of their
customers and deliver the slip to
kitchen department (Kumar, 2021).
• Writing skill is essential in restaurants
where one of the most important
factors is writing speed of staff
members.

Reason for choosing this sector
for career choice

The main reason behind choosing hospitality sector for
me is the growth rate and various growth opportunities
for me in this industry. I have chosen this industry as my
career goal so that I can learn various soft and hard skills
which further help me to grow well. Secondly, my
experience will define my personality and behaviour.
Hence, I need to reflect a good personality and
behaviour in my society by those soft skills which I can
learn in this industry.

From the above information it is concluded that hospitality industry is one of the
fastest growing industry in the world. Currently, it is facing the issue of shortage of
employee due to COVID pandemic where lots of employees switch heir industry. It is
also concluded that IT skill and writing skill is essential within hotel industry to
conduct their main operations.
