Based on your field trip experience, what are the importance of facilities management
This trip to Marriott enhanced my knowledge about various aspects of hospitality
management and operations of facility management within hospitality management. This is an
important operation in the industry. The importance of facility management in the industry is
as follows-
Through facility management industry and business is able to maintain health and
safety regulations.
Through facility management hotel is able to increase the lifespan of the asset of the
business.
Customers can be provided improved and unique experience of the facility and
environment of the hotel through facility management.
operations in the Hospitality Industry and in particular the company you visited:
Facility management refers to managing facilities of an organization, in this context
managing facility of Marriott, Forest of Arden which is a organisation of hospitality industry.
In hospitality industry there are various reasons which make facility management is very
important.
Facility Management is important as this fuels the industry's objectives of ultimate guest
experience (Wong, Ge and He, 2018). Facility Management helps hospitality industry is very
quick to respond various unique and specific needs of the hospitality sector by integrating a
holistic approach to ensure high standard of maintenance of industry assets.
This is important as this manages various functions and activities which are related with
managing asset of the Marriott, Forest of Arden, functions included in this are, Air
conditioning in the hotel, lifts, plumbing etc.
How has this trip impacted on your knowledge of facilities management in the hospitality
industry?
Through this trip my knowledge about facility management and related aspects and
functions of facility management have improved and increased. Functions which are included
in this are coordination of workers, machines, supplies, finished work and work in progress.
Marriott, Forest of Arden operates its facility management with the help of third parties.

This means that third party or organisation which have specialized in this operations. These
organisation take full care of facility management of the Marriott Forest of Arden. This trip
improved my knowledge about what are the functions which are undertaken by facility
management this includes technology integration. Facility upkeep and improvement which
means that facility management upkeeps and improve physical building of the Marriott Forest
of Arden. Facility Management also undertakes the work of repair of the building.
Based on your observation during this trip, what constitute good practices in hotel
facilities management operations:
To make facility management a good practice, and ensure that facility management is
completed in best possible manner, Marriott, Forest of Arden undertake practices which are,
collect as much information as possible (Nielsen, Sarasoja and Galamba, 2016). This means
that hotel ensures to take and collect information about its facility management and what
customers think and believe about facilities of the hotel. Other good practice in facility
management is identification of present trends, trends which competitors are following and
what better and unique the hotel can do to give improved experience to customers so
uniqueness of the facility.
How would you develop facilities management skills competencies to meet organisational
requirements and standards?
Decision-making Skills, this is really important skill which is required to be possessed for
facility management. To develop this skill I need to take guidance from seniors about their
decisions and prior experience. This is important as experience play a major role in successful
decision-making.
Team-working this is another important skill for facility management as there are more than
one people involved in facility management, and they are required to work together (Jensen
and van der Voordt, 2016). This requires that team working skill and competency is possessed
for facility management this is possible to learn through on the work training and actually
being a part of the team.
For this I also can join workshops which are dedicated for skills of team working training.
