A General Manager role is advertised on the Marriott careers website. The hotel chain is
looking for an individual who is suitable for the role and can handle the responsibilities coming
with the post(Hahang, Bayraktar and Jiménez, 2022). There are some desired and essential skills
they are looking for. They wanted a right candidate which suits the profile.
The role of a general manager is a important profile as the tasks he supervises are not
limiting to any service. He aids in smooth flow of operations, hospitality and other services so
the post is full of responsibilities(Sandstrom and Reynolds, 2020) . The general manager sets day
to day goals and activities and design strategies to achieve the tasks and also try to maintain the
discipline in the premise. He also ensure that the best services are delivered to the customers and
on time which maintains or improves the brand image of the hotel chain (Ng and Harrison,
2021). There should be the least chance of mishap on behalf of the general manager as it will
effect the whole working of the business premise. The post of general manager is filled with
responsibilities so for this a person first needs a experience of all the tasks as because it is quite
challenging and difficult to manage the job for a novice and fresher to manage all such tasks.
For the role of general manager it require a lost of skills such as good communication
skills, analytical skills, adaptability in nature and critical thinking (Priyangika, Perera and
Wickremanayake Karunaratne, 2020). Apart from all the skills the most important skills
necessary be a good general manager is leadership skills. The person needs to be a good leader
because he has to lead the team and ensure the smooth working of the business premise. It also
helps in creating a feeling of team spirit.
From the above report it was concluded that the post of general manager holds a
important place in the premise as well as the person plays multiple roles in the organisation. The
leadership skill was a important transferable skill which can also be passed to subordinates.
