 This presentation is motivated from the
previous assessment 3 that was based on
evaluation and identification of social
determinants of health.
 The social determinant identified in previous
assessment is housing insecurities and its
impact on the population ad their health.
 The target population for this study is the
homeless and refugee groups who have high
housing insecurities that impact their health.
INTRODUCTION

 Canada is a highly developed country with the
economy of 16th largest GDP in the world (Gaetz,
Gulliver and Richter., 2014).
 The housing is a major issue in Canada even today
and the insecurities associated with it are also
evident.
 The major reason for this issue in Canada is lack of
economic resources in this sector (Gaetz, Gulliver
and Richter., 2014).
 The Canadian hosing market is the least affordable
market in the world that is associated with private
sector.
2) CURRENT SITUATION

 Housing is one of the fundamental requirements
of a human being as human is a social animal
with ethical sense housing remains a necessity
for him (Gaetz, Scott and Gulliver., 2013).
 According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
housing is the necessity of an individual that
lies under the first basic requirements that is
“physiological needs”.
 It is explained by various studies that lack of
proper housing facilities and shelter influence
the physical as well as mental health of a
person.

 Low socioeconomic group
No jobs, no income source leads to no house.
 Homeless individual
Lack of house leads to more health issues and
lack of health and social care services leads to
enhancing health conditions.
 People living in poor housing condition
Improper sanitation, suffocated environment,
enable to maintain personal hygiene impacts
physical health.

3) OPTIONS

 National housing strategy is a 10 years
forward plan created in association of CMHC.
 The plan has a budget of $40 billion.
 The aim of this strategy is to build home for
every individual in Canada.
 Through the collaboration of NHS the
government aims at bringing together the
profit and non profit as well public and private
organizations to support this strategy
(Stewart et al., 2015).
3.A NATIONAL HOUSING
STRATEGY

 It is the intergovernmental multilateral
housing initiative that aims at providing
affordable houses in Canada.
 The federal government provided funding
under this initiative for affordable rental
housing programme as well.
 Till date more than 52,000 units were
funded to this programme (Novek and
Menec., 2014).
3.B Affordable Housing Initiative
(AHI) (2001–2011)

 Other options for this issue that can be
implemented in Canada are
 Providing eligibility to non natives of
Canada residing there to seek jobs and get
employed.
 The legal eligibility if promoted will solve
majority of problems.
 Some skill enhancement programmes like
Federal Internship for Newcomers
Programme helps induce skills for refugees
to make them capable to earn their housing
(Boyd., 2018).
