This report evaluates the usability of the Hoyts Cinema website, focusing on issues identified through Nielsen and Molich heuristics. Introduction
The importance of this report is the evaluation of the HOYTS website. The entire
details of the website and the relevant issues that have been faced while evaluating this
website have been explained in this report. Moreover, some further recommendations have
also been involved in this report. The recommendation has also been assisted with few
prototyping designs that would help in decreasing the defects in the system.
The website that is to be evaluated, is a movie boking website. Identifying the gaps
exists in this website by evaluating is to be done. Evaluation is done according to a movie
lover’s point of view and the main focus of developing the system is to make the viewer
experience an enhanced view.
Relevant Issues in the current website:
As mentioned earlier, the issues that have invaded during evaluation have been
explained here. With references to the Neilsen and Moloch usability heuristics evaluation of
the website is done that is needed for the user interface designs. Each type of issues is
described in the points mentioned below:
Visibility of system status
The website has navigation features but are not effectively developed. The users
cannot view the movies unless any cinema is selected by the users.

Only after the selection of a cinema the playing of the movies can be displayed to the
users. Furthermore, the website’s menu does not contain the movies options which could
view the entire list of available movies.
Match between system and the real world:
In the homepage of the website, the movies option is displayed which when selected
shows the movies that are available, although it is very tough to understand the movies that
are accessible in the website. Therefore, the improvement of the navigability of the website is
necessary.
Moreover, the menu does not consist of any indication that a menu is existing and
only the menu button exists.
User control and freedom
There is limitation to the user control of the website and to the freedom of surfing the
website. There are limits set to the users from accessing the movies before choosing any
particular cinema.

Then after the selection, the users can only view the movies which are only available
in a particular movie hall and therefore, this need to be changed in the website.
Consistency and standards:
The functions of the website is not up to the mark for use as it is very difficult for the
users to search for the correct things in the correct places. Furthermore, the things that is to be
noted that the users experience on the website is very tough as they need to travel through
difficulty that are present on the website. This is due to the lack of efficient definition of the
entire features of the website and even the structures of the design are not efficient.
The procedure of booking a movie is quite difficult for the users to search for a movie
in the website. In addition to this, the website does not consist of any chat options for the
users to provide help for the queries and hence, a support chat field is required that would be
available 24x7. This feature can be implemented in the website to fulfil the demand of the
organization who is really looking forward.
Error prevention
The factor of error prevention is developed in an efficient way in the system. The
website has the ability to provide very effective error messages and there are lot of links
involved in the error messages that would be of great assistance to prevent the users to come
across an error.

And in any case, the user is not able to resolve any kind of error on her own then she
would be able to come to the homepage just by a single click on the icon of homepage.
Therefore, after reaching to the homepage the user can start the process from the beginning.
Recognition rather than recall
The website has an efficient recognition feature which has been exposed in the
system. As an illustration, displaying the details of the ticket of the system in all the pages
during the whole process so that the user can recollect the data that have been saved by her in
the previous page.
Flexibility and efficiency of use
Working of the website with efficiency can be defined as the capability of the website
to manage various type of requests which are sent to the website by the users. Moreover, the
website does not have the feature to show the information about a number of movies
simultaneously.
Aesthetic and moderate design
The designs of the website are not moderate and aesthetic. The website has a lot of
details at every page and most of the details or particulars are tedious in nature. And most of

page consist of lot of advertisement in the same page and the pages keep on redoing the same
information. Therefore, the designs of the page required to be modified according to the
references to the moderate designs of the system.
Aesthetic and minimalist design
The user interface’s efficiency is not up to the mark the design of the website is not as
appealing to the users as it should be. The colour combinations and the designs are not as
demonstrative as it should.
In addition to this, due to existence of lot advertisements in the pages of the website,
the actual contents of the website gets restricted with the advertisements made in the website.
Help and documentation
The user interface design of the website does not serve platform for interaction of the
users with the essential parts of the website. Although the interactive interfaces of the website
provide some choices such as, displaying the trailers of the movies and the availability of
seats for choosing. As a whole it can be determined that the website is needed a lot of
improvements to be made to the upgrade the website.

The usability issues take place in the website due to the poor designing of the
developed website for the organization. Each and every website is required to provide their
users with the guidelines that would be helpful for the users to surf through the website and
make their desirable choices. The website faces a high response time and the users are
required to view many page before they can actually make a booking and hence, this is an
issue required to be mitigated by the organization for the development of a better usability
experience for the users.
Classification of the issues identified in the system
The issues that have been identified in can be rated as per the scale if severity. The
main problem issues can be identified as per the frequency of the occurrence of the issues in
the system. The issues have been classified based on the user feedbacks and the knowledge of
the user of the risks involved in the design of the website.
Recommendation for necessary actions
Reduction of the components of ads:
Already mentioned earlier that there are a lot of advertisements appears in different
pages hence, reduction of availability of the advertisement is required. By reducing it,
managing the activities of the system will be easier and even lot of ads just makes the website
appear unpleasant to the user. Hence, reduction of advertisement will amplify the
management and the performance will get improved which will attract the customers.
Efficient navigation:
On designing the user interface efficiently, the facility of navigation of the HOYTS
system can be improved. The newly designed interface will have the ability to serve better
navigation for better approach. Therefore, it can be ensured that the performance of the

website can be escalated. The process of navigation will be get improved simultaneously with
the implementation of the new design. It is important that the understanding of the context of
the user’s ease to use the website is done so that the main area of focus can be put created on
the development of a user oriented design. Easy navigation will serve better performance
towards the HOYTS and it will get confirmed that the system gets the ability to manage the
activities effectively within the system.
Sorting of the menu:
There is no such separated option in the menu section so that the user can search for
movies. Hence, the new design would be focused on ensuring that the system is designed
with the available option so that the users can have the information regarding the available
movies. The sorted menu will simply provide better performance of the system to have good
control over the system. Information about the movies that are available in various respective
movie theatres will be provided to the users.
Searching facilities:
The searching facilities for movie will be implemented within the new design of the
website that serve the users with the facility of surfing the names of movies. The customers
or users will be able to search for any movie according to their interests. The searching
facility will make users to be able to surf through the interesting movies that are available on
different movie theatres.
Listing of components:
The interface of the website has been built in such a way that it will display the list of
all the components of the system efficiently for better access. The purpose of the new
interface is to enhance the performance by making appropriate improvements. Providing the
movie list to the user will help him or her to select from the options hence, organizing the

flexibility and reliability to the user.
