History
Recycling was introduced in the year 1970 (Grabianowski, 2007). During those times
recycling at a significant level was very rare, but with time it became an important practice to
make environment pollution free. As the era of industrialization was increasing at a very
alarming rate, goods (bottles or cans) cannot be made so quickly. Thus, recycling was considered
as the best method to get such goods, and it is also a profitable business.

Human Resource Management Analysis
Dawson Creek recycling and bottle depot face many challenges in terms of a human
resource such as recruitment and selection, emotional and physical stability of employees, proper
balance between management and employees, training and development, compensation,
performance appraisal.
Recruitment & Selection:
Recycling and bottle depot face challenges when there is a need for more employees.
Recruitment is an arduous task for DC recycling and bottle depot, as it is the process of
convincing the applicants for applying for the job especially in a contaminated environment. It is
one of the difficult tasks of the HR department to place the right candidate at the right place
(Human Resource Management Challenges, 2011). Dawson Creek recycling bottle depot mostly
post their job openings on social media or by word of mouth. There might be no easy way of
hiring right people at right place but with change in hiring policies they can find the solution of
this problem up to some extend.
Training and Development
The experienced or trained workers train the new workforce by shadowing and
explaining the proper procedure that is required at each phase (Beyer, personal communication,
April 02, 2019). There are no designated training programs in the firm, so the employees get
more knowledge about the work like what they are doing, what is proper way pursing tasks, and
how to handle any dangerous situation at workplace. By developing some training programmes
for new employees, it a lot easy for company to handle this challenge.

also fueled their part-time employees by giving them little incentives like, bonuses and free pizza

The company must follow the state and federal compliance. It includes fair pay, equal
pay discrimination, racism, harassment. The management of DC recycling and bottle depot
follow the regulations by regularly checking the updates on new regulations.
Recommendation and Suggestions
This information is taken from an interview with Brandy Beyer on April 02, 2019, the
company overall is doing well. After having one on one conversation while interviewing, we
came to know that it was bought by one of the employees working inside. He tried to leave quite
a few times, but owners keep on giving him raise in the urge to stay and then after a while he
ends up buying this business. It is a family-owned business. They are always continually facing
the staff problems not having enough employees in the work area (Beyer, personal
communication, April 02, 2019).
Not only interviewing company officials but also after getting into a conversation with
employees, we discovered that there are not many incentives and benefits that they provide to
them. The medical benefits are only to be offered to long term or permanent type of employees,
not to the part-time as well as full-time workers (Beyer, personal communication, April 02,
2019). The back and front sides are entirely different. The front side seemed to be organized and

not very clean because of the open garbage of bottles lying over there waiting to get separated
and tested, whereas the back side containing bottle dumps and big bailers and recycle bins, and
huge storages are kind of messy and little unclean pointing towards the hygiene factor a bit. The
employees are usually untidy because of the nature of the work that makes their clean clothes get
dirty and make them look unorganized and ugly that creates a terrible impression on the
customers. They are not fully aware about harassment policies and guidance to handle such a
situation if it occurs. According to the one partner of business Brandy Beyer “Such kind of
things are silly and never happened to us, so we do not know much” is not an answer to the
pointed question. The answer to the question should be a proper explanation of the company’s
harassment policy which according to my examination they do not have it appropriately written
in their rule book.
After considering most of the aspects focusing mainly on the interview and general
conversation with employs and people we come up with some specific recommendations for this
business which are as follows.
The employee’s satisfaction (incentives, tips, medical, sometimes paid holidays, stat
pays, overtime pay)
The proper environment arrangements (clean, organized, hygiene and tidiness)
Proper rules and policies (harassment policy, compensation)
Focus on small staff but earn credibility to have them reliable with the business or
workplace.

Pros and Cons of the Interview-
Pros
One of the partners in the business is a friend of one of our group members. So that is
very helpful for us to get time for the interview and even in the interview she described
everything in her business and how all the process of recycling is done. Moreover, by doing the
interview in person, we get some inside information about the business that is great for us.

As far there are no cons of the interview that we have noticed like even we have limited
time for the interview, the interviewee describes everything for the business.
Conclusion
It had estimated that the population of Dawson Creek was around 11,574 in the year 2016
(2016 Census of Population, 2017). It is increasing day by day due to internationals and expands
in the oil industry. The increasing population gives rise to the utilization of plastic bottles,
aluminum cans, cardboard, and other recyclable products. That is undoubtedly harmful to the
