Introduction
The human resource department of the organization deals with drafting policies in the welfare
of the employees working in the company. The human resource manager needs to have
appropriate skill sets in order to drive the other members in the team. In this study, the
responsibilities of the Hr manager will be drafted in details. A case study of the HR manager
working at Wiser UK will be considered. In order to improve skills, two major frameworks
are required. The two frameworks are SWOT analysis and a personal development plan.
After analysing the weakness in the SWOT, a PDP will be developed for the human resource
manager. A proper report will be drafted in order to assess and identify the strategies that are
required to develop the skills for lifelong learning. The strategies will help in development of
the qualities of the team members as well.
Each department in the organization should implement high performance working system in
the organization in order to improve the productivity of the employees. In this study, some
strategies for the development of high performance working systems will be indentified in
order to improve the productivity of the entire team.

Career Development and Lifelong Learning
In every business organization, the human resource department is one of the prime
departments in the company that aids the motive of goal attainment. The department of
human resource has many activities to perform (Wright, 2018). Recruitment of staff, training
the employees, providing remuneration to the work force and motivating the employees in the
organization are the required activities of the human resource department. In addition to this,
the major concern of this department is to draft employee friendly policies that would help in
motivating the employees in the organization.
I have been associated with Wiser UK for three years now. I have been appointed as the
human resource manager for the last one year and five months. Wiser is a SME that is located
in London and provides recruitment solutions of different organizations present in the
country. The responsibilities that need to be performed as a human resource manager are as
follows:
Planning is one of the major activities that need to be performed by the human
resource manager. In the planning section, the HR policies that needs to be followed
in the company needs to be drafted (Cascio, 2015)
Designing the job description and the job analysis for the different positions in the
company is the task that needs to be performed by the HR manager
Additionally, the approaches that will be used to train the employees of the different
department is drafted by the human resource manager
Effective communication is a vital trait that needs to be present in an HR manager. the
HR manager should be able to solve the queries and problems put forward by the
employees in the organization
Moreover, drafting of appraisal and reward system is also the responsibility of the HR
manager
Apart from the responsibilities that are identified, the additional responsibilities of the HR
managers are controlling, organizing and directing the employees working in the company.
a) Every individual needs to analyse the strengths and weaknesses in order to improve the
existing skills. Improving the existing skills would help in attaining the future goals with
ease. SWOT analysis is a framework that is used to identify the strengths and weaknesses

present in an individual. As a HR manager of Wiser UK, I have conducted a SWOT analysis
on myself.
Strengths
My strength lies in my
communication skills. The

team. An effective HR manager needs to implement skill development concepts in such a
way that all the employees are able to develop their skills which would eventually lead to
attainment of organizational and departmental goals (Bratton and Gold, 2017).
A human resource manager should undertake some strategies in order to develop the skill sets
of the employees and the manager himself. Career development strategies needs to be
implemented in such a scenario. In the career development model, there are six stages
involved. In the portions drafted below, the six stages are used to develop the strategies
required for career development (Bloch and Richmond, 2015). The strategies that need to be
taken are as follows:
Step 1, Reflection and Evaluation: The HR manager and the employees should
understand the areas they lack in. This will help in the implementation of the career
development activities that are required to excel in the future. In the present scenario,
the HR manager should improve his controlling activities in the department and the
employees should improve their communication skill with one another. This will help
in proper completion of work in time (Vondracek et al., 2018)
Step 2, Exploration: Both the HR manager and the employees should explore ways
in order to improve the skills that have been mentioned above. The HR manager
should find ways to control the activities in the organization. In addition to this, the
employees should involve themselves in activities that increase communication
between them. Improvement of inter-personal skills will help the employees in their
personal relationship
Step 3, Preparation: In order to improve the skill sets, the employees and HR
manager needs to prepare a plan in order to achieve the skill sets. The employees
should read books and see videos in order to improve the communication skills In
case of the manager; he should evaluate the activities in the department in order to
have greater control over the department.
Step 4, Commitment stage: The employees and the managers should stay committed
to the organization. This is only possible if there are motivational factors in the
policies of the company. The human resource manager should come with some
policies that increase the motivation of the employees towards the work in the
company. In addition to this, the senior management should provide some
motivational factors for the development of the HR manager in the company.

Step 5, Retention Stage: With the help of the motivational factors in the
organization, it will become easy to retain the employees in the organization.
Retention stage is immensely important for the growth of the organization. With
proper retention of the employees and the HR manager, the company will be able to
reach its goals on time (McMahon, 2016)
Step 6, Transition Stage: The transition stage is very important in the path of career
development. The HR managers should make it sure that that employees have a
milestone to reach in the organization. In order to do so, the manager should
implement new activities in the organization that enhances the skill sets of the
employees. Transition of job may be favourable for the growth of the career of the
employee, but it is harmful for the growth of the organization.
The HR manager should make it sure, that the career development plan should include
strategies that would help in improving the personal elements in the personality as well. It is
important to note that improvement in personal traits would help an employee to improve his
functions in the professional domain as well. The career development plans should make it
sure that the skill sets of the employees are improved which would result into employee
motivation and employee retention (DeCenzo et al., 2016). The HR manager should make it
sure; the developmental activities should motivate the employees to increase their
productivity in the organization. The HR manager at Wiser should subject himself to constant
training in order to improve the existing skill sets. In addition to this, the employees in the
team should also be subjected to constant training in order to improve their skill sets and
improve their retention in the organization.
