1.2 Own effectiveness against the set targets.
There are lots of phases which I have to go or adopt in order to bring new skills in me.
One of the phase is the evaluate of the effectiveness of the targets which I have set. With this I
can attain goals which are related to the performance. For this a self assessment will be done so
that I can know my strengths and weaknesses along with the capability skills. This is a useful
process in which I can improve my weakness and maintain the strengths(de Guzman and Choi,
2013). All the responsibility which was given by me will be analysed according to the skills and
capabilities I possess.
I will evaluate myself and this will give me a better idea that what changes or skills I
have developed after the training program. It will help me in knowing my effectiveness of my
performance in certain task. I know that if I have to resolve the conflicts in better I need to have
a creative and critical mindset. With the brainstorming practices I can improve my decision
taking skills.
Manager is the position in the organisation which deals with a lot of people so I should
develop better communication skills. To analyse my performance I will be inspecting the
performance of the employees and will also take their opinion about my leadership
style(Dhiman, 2012). I will ponder upon interacting with more number of customers and will be
participating in the development plan. This way I will improve my communication skills and I
will also try to learn to languages which gives me access to more number of customers at the
hotel.
1.3 Recommendations for improving skills.
If I want to sustain in this organisational environment I need to improve my performance.
In this process selection of the correct and relevant training and development program is crucial.
All the targets which are related to the performance can be achieved in efficient way. From the
evaluation of the effectiveness of the targets I came to know that I am little bit shy which is
hampering my presentation skills. This can be improved by boosting confidence level through
development program. This way I will become flexible in dealing with various situations.
With the better presentation skills I will able to direct the teams and the staff through
developing a good leadership style. With the confidence I can better express myself and could
put forward my views in front of board directors(Durrani and Tariq, 2012). I will take more
interest in the meetings organised by the hotel owners and this will increase my moral.

Participation in problem solving, reasoning exercises and other brainstorming processes will be
more beneficial. All these thing will bring creativity and the decision making process will bring
better results. With the communication skills a more number of people could be reached and the
actual situation can be identified. I can know what are the factors which are decreasing the
growth of the hotel and what all are the performances which needs improvement. With the
training program I will learn new things like working in a team and dividing the work into
smaller parts so that it could be completed in time(Jackson, 2014). All the tasks can be achieved
if all the members of the team gets encouraged and make them know the importance of working
in unity. I have to more indulged into social activities which will make me confident to bring my
ideas in front of the hotel. All these recommendations can enhance my performance to a great
level.
1.4 Motivational techniques to improve performance.
No operation can be better performed well if the members who are part of these does not
have any motivation. If they have to improve performance objectives effectively confidence
should be boosted. For every person motivational can be different as there is variation in needs
and interest. With this, performance can be increased to a great level. For me motivational
factors can be related to the financial benefits or any non- monetary remuneration. The reason
behind this is that motivation is directly related to the confidence and passion. If someone will be
working on a project with full confidence then he or she will definitely gain confidence. In the
business achieving strategies is directly concerned with the performance objectives. If we
consider the theory of Maslow which states that if a person is performing well the reason behind
it is to accomplish all the basic needs(Ju, Zhang and Pacha, 2012). A person who is working for
the organisation works there for house & food, need of safety & security, sociological needs,
estimated desires and wants of self actualisation. Motivation and the hygienic food are the two
things which are behind the performance of a certain person. So the person who wants to achieve
new goals needs to make sure that he manages both of them and maintains a relation with both of
them. Listed below are the motivational factors for me with working as managers in
Travelodge:-
Financial Motivational: In a firm this is the main factors for the motivation because
employees give their services to company only if they receive some kind of money. With it I can
fulfil all my needs and if I will be getting a better financial motivation I will try to contribute
more beneficial. All these thing will bring creativity and the decision making process will bring
better results. With the communication skills a more number of people could be reached and the

more in the organisation growth. Financial motivation can be in the form of incentives and this
can be given when the employee is performing well(Omar and et. al., 2012). Other benefits can
be in the form of bonus, car and houses. This will be a great motivational factor and will give
boost to the performance of the employee.

Recognition: With encouraging staff to do work more and in effectiveness manner he
should be given a recognition. This can be in the form of certificate, awards and rewards. The
moral of the manager will increase because he thinks that his work will be valued.
Status: It is observed that if any staff is working well then his will get reputation of the
ideal employee. So I will try my best to work above my capabilities and will try to accomplish
all the tasks given to me.
Participation:In a team working of a person becomes efficient because he get to know
what the organisations and how the task given to him can be done. I can get help from my
colleague who are also part of them whenever I feel that I need a guidance(Panagiotakopoulos,

Competition: In this world where every one wants a better job and position. In all we
could say that the competition has increased so to face this competitive environment I need to
learn new things and this will bring a motivation in me because I know if I don't follow the trend
I will be left out.
TASK 2
2.1 Work Based Problem.
In the business environment a company undertake a lot of activities so that they can fulfil
the demands of the market. They need a workforce who can work for them and bring more
productivity in the work. These employees should have some sort of employability skills
according to the functions. To accomplish the targets they have made a complex working
structure(Poon, 2012). There might be the situations when the the firm might face work based
problem because the employees are not able to deliver according to the expectation. Some of the
work based problems faced by the Travelodge are as follows:-
Organisation Structure: It is observed that many organisation whose turnover is so high
they face work based problem. This brings a confusion in the minds of employees about the
work which they have to do. All the responsibilities are not distributed properly. The
performance level of the staff has gone down and this has negatively impacted the profits of the
company. There has been miscommunication because responsibilities distribute is clashing the
large structure of the organisation. Travelodge can find its solution and they can bring a platform
where communication can be done properly and effectively(Rao, 2014). They can allocate
activities in order to distribute specific responsibility to specific activities which reduces
overcoming of functions.
Employee Turnover Rate: Any organisation who is the part of the hospitality industry is
facing the higher employee turnover because they are not able to retain their employees. The
reason behind this might be many like they are not able to provide them a good working
conditions, low remuneration, better growth opportunities at other competitors and etc. are some
of them. This is the major issue and which needs to be resolved in time. Mangers can increase
the remuneration amount, monetary and non-monetary benefits(Rosenberg, Heimler and Morote,
could say that the competition has increased so to face this competitive environment I need to

Memo to inform the employees:
To: Employees of the hotel
From: Manager
Subject: Staff Dinner
Date: 15th August
All the members of the staff is conveyed that organisation is celebrating the season of
Christmas through a party. All the employees with their families are invited for the celebration
on 25th December for dinner.
2.3 Effective time management strategy.
It is necessary for the Travelodge hotel to perform all the operations in time. By keeping
this in mind they have developed a strategy to manage time of staff employed in the hotel. They
can increase productivity as well as profitability if this strategy is followed. Managers has
initiated the task of monitoring the working of the employees and the concept behind this is to
analyse the total time taken by the staff in completing the task given to him. How effective the
employee is can be identified through it(Saunders and Zuzel, 2010). This can be on regular time
period and he will coordinate all the function according to the performance of employees on the
basis of it. He should make sure that no employee is given the multitask as they know that this
will reduce the quality. Travelodge manager are focusing on reducing the wastage time which is
done on the calling and other activities from the external area. For managing the time certain
strategy can be adopted which ensures that all the work is managed in the give time period. The
manager whenever starting anything should be very much clear about the fact that what they
want to achieve through it. They should prepare a list of activities and tasks which has to be
performed in the time period and that list should be upgraded on regular time period so that
according to the demands new tasks can be performed. Before starting anything they should have
knowledge about the tasks which will have positive effect on the project, company and the
clients. All the unimportant operations should be left. There should be deadline for any task
which has to be performed. There should be limitation at multi tasking as this consumes lots of
time. At a time there should be focus on a single operation only and after the completion of the
all the things should be reviewed so that it can be find out which activity has taken lots of time.
