INTRODUCTION
Human resource department is an functional unit which is established in an organisation with the
sole purpose of fulfilling the needs of workforce in the entity and managing the existing and new
employees in the best potential ways by dropping different HRM and motivational theories
(Hewett and et. al., 2018). The report is based on a case study where the role of HR officer and
different theories is discussed in context of motivating employees and encouraging them to work
potentially. The Organisation selected for this project is Morrison’s largest supermarket train of
the United kingdom. Founded in 1899 by William Morrison and headquartered in in Bradford,
England, UK.
Human resource department and its roles.
The Human resource refers to the people who are working in an organisation and makes up the
workforce of it. Human resource is also known as human capital which is considered as one of
the most important and essential asset of the company as the employees are the ultimate source
which implements the strategic plans and accomplish the strategic goals of the organisation. The
human resource management is the concept and functional unit established in an organisation
with the motive of managing the workforce and fulfilling the needs of employees in an
organisation (Cao and et. al., 2018). Human resource department of a company performs several
different roles that are required by the organisation for effective management of staff by treating
them updated and informed. The role of Human resource department is as follows:
Recruitment and selection- The first and foremost rule of a Human resource department
of an organisation is to recruit and select the best suitable employee for the company
according to its need for fulfilling the talent gap and meeting with the necessities.
Recruitment and selection is considered as one of the major and most crucial role of the
HR department.
Employee relations- The employees create the workforce of an organisation and
considered as the most important capital and resource. Another very important role
performed by Human resource department of an organisation is of developing employee
relations. The HR department is responsible for providing best working conditions and
environment to the employees and put efforts for creating relations which are healthy

with the individuals why keeping the moon formed and thoroughly engaged in the
operations of an organisation.
Employee motivation and encouragement- Another very important and crucial role
performed by Human resource department in relation with employees is off keeping the
staff motivated and encouraged for achieving the strategic objectives of company which
are established by the top level management (Brown and Read, 2018). Employee
motivation and Human resource department and different theories used by them in
relation with keeping the employees motivated and encouraged for performing with their
best potential for providing productive and most cost-effective results to the company.
Motivation and the role of Human resource theory in context of motivating employees in
Morrison’s.
Motivation is a phenomena which defines the attitude and assumptions developed by individual
which guide them and maintain a goal oriented behaviour. The Human resource officer of
Morrison’s has the role and responsibility for keeping the staff motivated and encourage towards
the sole objective of the organisation. The HR officer of Morrison’s are responsible for
managing the performance of employees for which motivation place a very important role. The
major officer undertake several different HR theories for fulfilling the role of a motivator and
encouraging the employees for working with their most efficient potentials in order to increase
the performance level I am attend the strategic objectives of the organisation in the given time
frame. The age of theories UC buy the HR officer of Morrison in relation with motivating staff
are mentioned and elaborated underneath:
Employee engagement- There are several factors and elements available by which an
individual can be motivated as the HR officer of Morrison it's the part of job role for
analyzing these factors and behaviour of individuals at accordingly motivate them
fulfilling the objectives and goals by training high performance levels (Van Gunsteren,
2018). Employee engagement is a HR theory which is utilized by the major officer of
Morrison for increasing the encouragement level of individuals and enhancing their
performances. The HR officer will make use of effective communication skills in order to
keep the employees informed and motivated for increasing their engagement in the
operations of Morrison. Employee engagement theory will boost the moral of the

Performance appraisal and rewards- Another HR theory which is helpful and utilized
by the HR officer of Morrison in order to motivate the staff and keep them engaged in the
operations of company by performing with their best potential is of performance
appraisals and rewards (Friedman, 2018). One of the most influential factors which are
very common for increasing the employees is rewarding their performances and
appreciating their efforts along with their contribution made in the success and growth of
the company. The major officer of Morrison also made use of this HR theory in order to
increase the motivation level of employees and fulfill the job role in the most efficient
manner.
CONCLUSION
The above report conclude that human resource are the human capital of an organisation is the
most enriching an important resource of a company for which the HR department is responsible
to keep them motivated and encouraged. Therefore there are several different roles which are
performed by Human resource officer of an organisation and one is the most crucial one is of
keeping this task motivated and encourage for performing in the best potential manners for their
personal and organisational growth.
