1Collective Bargaining
Union Member:
We are here to negotiate on behalf of the Hospital Employees Union of the Getwell
Hospital. I am a licensed practical nurse, and I will be negotiating on behalf of the Hospital
Employee Union that consists of 625 employees of the Getwell Hospital.
Opening Statement on the Issue:
This negotiation session is regarding the best wage and the benefits package that
would be provided to the employees of the Getwell Hospital for the contract of 1 year. The
main issues that the employees are facing consist of inadequate wages as the average wage of
the unit are $20.00/hr that is very less, and due to that, the families are facing many problems
in order to pay the bills. Even the management has not been able to keep up with the inflation
rate of consumer prices.
Importance of the Issue:
This issue of the wage structure is of utmost importance as upon this, the families of
all the employees depend. More or less, every employee has a family, and they work hard in
order to attain the goal of sustenance in their life. With such a low wage rate, it becomes
challenging to keep up with the needs and requirements of the families.
Proposal:
In order to achieve the goal, at least a 10% increase is demanded of the fixed rate for
each employee. This will just cost the Hospital a total of $2,500,000 or $2.5 million. That is
$320/month for an employee.

Anticipated Response from Management:
We request the management to understand the issue that the families are facing as we
have been a part of this Hospital and provided the maximum support to the management in a
time of need. So we expect the same coordination from them.
Your Response and Counter Proposal:
In a case where the management is not agreeing, we are expecting a least 5% increase
in the wage if not 10%. That would be the best we can do considering the points of the
management.
