1.3 Literature Review of the Project
Kundu (2007) said that shipping is one of the safest and most environmentally benign modes of
transport. It mostly focuses on the services of professional, telecommunications, and financial
areas. From the last half century, the shipping industry has experienced a great expansion in
demand showing the growth in the volume of seaborne trade. Progoulaki (2016) conclude that
job analysis is an efficient process of receiving relevant information about different jobs such as
information about the tasks which needs to be perform, and personal characteristics. Apart of
this, it is also considered as efficient tool of sound HR management as it provide a deeper
knowledge about the different behavioral aspects and job related employment decisions (Liu,
2016).
The introduction of gas-carrying capacity and containerization makes the shipping industry very
successful. The structure of shipping countries always changes with the changing in the
appearance of management companies. Caniëls (2016) said that it is necessary for the
organizations to develop customer-oriented workforce to deliver service quality. He said that
after hiring the appropriate candidate with the required attitude, organizations must provide
training to them.
From the last some decades the force majeure events have guided the shipping industry to focus
on its sea-growing manpower (Rana, 2015). Pawlik (2015) declares that if competencies are the
wheels for managing knowledge work, rewards both intrinsic and extrinsic are proves as engine

1.4 Research Design Framework
Generally, there are two main types of the research which the researcher can conduct
accordingly; quantitative research deals with the numerical data, and the qualitative research
deals with the facts or ideas.
1.4.1 Qualitative Research
Qualitative research is mostly designed to reveal a target audience’s range of behavior and their
perception. It mainly utilizes the small group of people to support and guide the construction of
suitable hypotheses (Rau, 2012). The result produced with the help of qualitative research is
descriptive in nature rather than predictive.
1.4.2 Quantitative Research
Quantitative research is considered the systematic empirical investigation or observable
phenomenon. It is mainly designed to understand the underlying opinions, motivations, and
reasons. It provides insights into the main problem or helps to solve this problem by formulating
efficient ideas or hypotheses. It mainly utilizes semi-structured or unstructured technique. With
the help of quantitative research we are able to use different mathematical and statistical tools
and theories to analyze the gathered data.
