Managing the human resource is very vital and it needs extreme vitality. The need to
understand the proper criteria of an employee, to select them, to deal with their motivation
and to train the employees properly, the human resource came into being. The human
resource mainly focuses on the key areas like recruitment, staffing, training, employee
relation with the whole organisation (Aladwan et al., 2015). The HRM also deals with the
development of the organisation. The study below deals with the purpose and the practice of
the Human resource in an organisation along with the selection of the right candidate in the

Task 1
Introduction
The report deals with the HRM of the Jaguar where the role and the functions of the human
resource department are very important. This will help to understand how the human resource
works in an automobile industry.
1. Define HRM and explain the purpose of HRM in an organization
The human resource management is used mainly to define the formal systems that are
devised to manage the people within an organization. This is the employee management with
emphasis on the employees who are considered as the assets of the business. The company’s
human resource management department is entitled with the job of creating new resource by
hiring and selecting the appropriate candidates. The main purpose of the human resource
management department is to create space for the right candidate and to pick the appropriate
person who can satisfy the job role creating assets for the company. The main responsibility
lies in choosing the right person who suits the automation department. This consists of
staffing, the employee benefits and motivation and finally the design of the work.
The main purpose of the HRM is to increase the productivity of the organization by
increasing the delivery skill of the employees. The HRM can do this by optimizing the main
effectiveness of the employees, which is, benefit and the motivation. The basic purpose and
mission of the human resource is to acquire, develop and to retain the talent. They align the
candidates to the business and helps in building an epitome of Excellency by motivating the
employees to become a great contributor to the business.
2. Identify and list the various functions of HRM in an organization.
There are five major functions of HRM includes-
Recruitment – Proper recruitment is very important for a company as it helps reduce the cost
of unqualified, incompetent candidates who become liabilities to the company and this part is
justifiably done by the HRM (Greer et al., 2016).
Orientation – The fundamental step to make the new employee adjust the new ambience and
the new colleagues, the company needs to follow a thorough orientation (Petrick, 2017). This

program helps the candidate to understand what the job roles are and how to adjust own self
to the assigned duty.
Training and development – The HRM gives proper training to the appropriate candidate
after selection (Seidle et al., 2016).
Managing employee relations – The employee relation is broad concept and the crucial
function of the HRM (Shields et al., 2015). The management should engage the employees
in a professional and personal level in such activities, which would help them to understand
each other better.
3. Select 2 from your above list and explain them in detail.
Recruitment - Hiring brings many candidates through proper screening, captivating and
potential selection of the qualified candidates to meet the criteria of the job role (Snel et al.,
2015). The recruitment process is very decisive. The main expertise is needed for the
engineers in whose hand lays the safety of the passengers. The service that the front desk
employees provide should be aligned to the customer’s purpose being satisfied. They should
be very sober and polite which eventually affects the organization’s goodwill. The human
resource team recruits the persons in a very decisive manner, where they suit the role aptly to
handle the safety sensitive and technologically advanced arena of work. The assessment to
recruit the work force serves the attempt to perform well.
Training and development – In order to provide the candidate with the proper training and to
make them knowledgeable about the type of the work, the HRM provides the training after
the selection process (Machado, 2018). This helps to understand, which employee suits,
which job role. The training and the development of the skill is very important aspect where
the HRM needs to play pivotal role. Since inception, the HRM has been identifying the core
areas where the candidates needed proper training. They provide the training of
communication to them also. The HRM understands the new skills of the candidate and
prepare them for training. Since aviation is technology based, they provide training on the
best use of the technology.
4. Identify various approaches of recruitment and selection.
The recruitment process is very personalized (Lussier and Hendon, 2017). A proper
recruitment can make a big organizational profit. There are various approaches for the
recruitment and the selection process.
5
Document Page
Job descriptions – The recruitment can be approached the advertisements where the job roles
and the core duties are mentioned along (Hollenbeck and Jamieson, 2015). It also mentions
the responsibilities and the task that the individual has to do. This approach mentions the
salary also to attract the candidates at one go.
Person Specification – The qualities, the skills which are needed to design the high-end cars,
experience persons are needed (Cabanillas et al., 2015). The essentials and the desirable
conditions of the candidates are specified before recruitment.
Reward Package – The bonus, the company car’s facility, the salaries, the entitlement to the
holidays are mentioned as a plus information to the candidates (Shaukat et al., 2015).
Details of application – The details to apply for the job, the contact details, and the deadline
to apply all these are mentioned (Shaukat et al., 2015).
5. Select 2 approaches among each of recruitment and selection and explain them in
detail highlighting the strengths and weaknesses
Two approaches to recruitment are –
Advertisement – The Companies give advertisement in the newspapers as well the online
Medias (Gatewood et al., 2015). The Jaguar Land Rover has been trying to meet the demand
of the high end SUV for which they need more employees and they are giving advertisement
describing the job roles of the candidates they need, the core duties and the task they will be
assigned to. This helps to reach the mass and many pools of candidates apply for the post.
This approach strengthens the HRM to recruit and select from a vast range of individual and
is very cumbersome. However, with the pool of candidates it becomes hectic for the manager
to interview, as well the fakeness of the candidates increases and this stands as weakness.
Details of the application – The candidates are given the details of the concerned person to
be contacted (Kavanagh and Johnson, 2017). They are given the deadline of the application
and the place for the interview. All these details are supplied in the approach to the
recruitment only. The candidates are intimated by the advertisement few days prior the
interview about the details. The main strength of this approach is provides the candidates
with all details. However, the weakness involves the restrictions of the internal recruitment
process.
6. You are to select an organisation and identify various HRM practices in that
organisation and list them
The selected organization is Jaguar Land Rover. The Jaguar has been practicing the

relocation of high quality organizational talents who would be helpful in contributing to the
overseas locations and this has implications in the HR management as not just an individual
but the whole group will be influenced by such move (Sparrow et al., 2015). The Jaguar LR
operates in the dynamic environment, which is changing and constantly influencing the
company. The main work of the HRM is to adapt the technological changes and impart the
knowledge to the employees. The HR help in adapting the organizational strategies and
identify the perfect candidates who can satisfy the objectives. Globalization has become an
integral part in the practice of the HR as the managers take the responsibility to joint venture
and train the employees to adapt to the new changes.
7. Select more than one practice and explain the benefits for both the employer and
employee providing appropriate examples for each type within an organisational
context.
Relocation of talents – The Jaguar LR HRM relocates the talents in the organization in the
overseas locations after picking them up from the home environment. This influences the
whole organization. The higher authorities sometimes do not want the bright employees
working under them, to leave and go overseas. Nevertheless, this practice of HRM helps in
shuffling of the talents and mixing of the culture.
Impart Knowledge – The HRM at first gather the knowledge themselves about the changes
in the environment and the technology which they further impart to the employees and train
them to acknowledge those changes in order to make mentionable changes in the
organization for its betterment.
8. Now, give details of how your selected practices will benefit your selected
organization in terms of profit and productivity. Justify your answers with examples.
The selected practices would definitely help the organization because when the employees
are sent to the overseas location, then they are mixing with the different culture and coming
of their comfort zone. This helps in creating new challenges for the employees who are left to
face the environment which make them strong and independent. The other practice, imparting
knowledge helps the organizing to gain the training from the HRM and this helps to ideate
the new way of working. For e.g.The, Jaguar LR is launching new car and it imparts
extensive training to the employees, which makes them understand how to use the technology
and how to satisfy customers’ requirement.

The relationship between the employees and the employer is known as the employee relation.
Jaguar Land Rover consists of a good employee relation where they provide a fair and
consistent treatment to all the employees to keep them committed to their work and motivates
them in a passionate way.
2. In detail, explain with examples its importance in HRM decision making.
The Human Resource is all about the decision-making and the decisive quickness and
smartness leads to the improvement of the company. Choosing the correct candidate for the
position available is not something to be left upon the guesswork. The role of the decision-
making is a complicated one and it needs usage of proper technologies and mind to select the
right candidate. There are innumerable alternatives p[resent and the role of the HRM is to
choose from them, the correct candidate. Infact, the whole managerial functions of planning,
staffing, training all are done through proper decision. HRM decision making plays pivotal
role in solving any issue in the organization. The importance of the decision-making is in
choosing the specific course of the action from various alternatives to solve difficult
organizational affairs.
Such as, Jaguar LR is going through the recruitment process and there is a pool of candidates
whom the HR has to choose. The HR will make the quick decision of conducting an
appropriate test for the job role and pick the candidates from there.
3. You are to identify and list various employment legislations that are key for an
organization
The legislation of the employment, which are key to the employment are
National Minimum Wage, 1 April 2018
Compensation Limits, 6 April 2018
Restricting employment allowance for illegal working, April 2018
Equal Pay Act
4. Explain how these will have an impact on HRM decision making. Discuss the pros
and cons of each of the above discussed legislations.
As per the development rate of the workers, they will be paid a minimum hike. This would
help the organization but would negatively impact the employees.

The Tribunal Compensation Limits has been increased from 6 April, 2018. This has helped
the employees when they take the sick leave, the maternity leave and other allowances they
get an increased limit. However, the organization would face badly and the decision should
be taken wisely on the number of employees to be taken.
Restricting employment allowance for illegal working means deterrent to the workers without
right to work in UK (Marshall and Hodgkiss, 2016). The employers are receiving the fine for
employing the workers in this way. This used to help the workers to get work in UK but they
will be scrutinized now.
Equal Pay Act says that all the employees doing the same work would be paid the same
amount without the discrimination between men and women. This is winning of humanity.
However, the employers used to take women to pay less but now they need to pay equal.
